TORONTO - Toronto Real Estate Board President Paul Etherington announced 11,706 sales reported by Greater Toronto REALTORS® in May 2015. This result was up by 6.3 per cent in comparison to 11,013 sales reported in May 2014. For the TREB market area as a whole, sales were up for all major housing types. However, in the City of Toronto, where the supply of low-rise listings has been constrained, sales were down for detached homes. "During my tenure as TREB President over the past year, it is clear to me that ownership housing remains top of mind as a quality long-term investment for GTA house- holds. This is why, despite a shortage of listings in some market segments, we experienced a record number of sales reported through TREB's MLS® System for the month of May," said Etherington. Record May transactions, coupled with a dip in the number of homes available for sale, resulted in strong price growth. The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) Composite Benchmark was up by 8.9 per cent year over year in May. The MLS® HPI uses benchmark homes to estimate price growth. This allows for an "apples to apples" comparison of price growth that is not affected by changes in the mix of sales activ- ity. The average selling price for all home types combined in May 2015 was up by 11 per cent annually to $649,599. The higher annual rate of average price growth compared to the MLS® HPI Composite Benchmark points to the fact that the proportion of high-end home sales continued to be greater compared to 2014. "Tight market conditions, especially for singles, semis and town homes in the GTA, have resulted in strong price growth regardless of the price metric being considered. With no relief so far on the listings front, expect similar rates of price growth as we move through the remainder of 2015. At this point, a number of months where listings growth outstrips sales growth would be required to satisfy pent-up demand," said Jason Mercer, TREB's Director of Market Analysis. TORONTO, ON - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer net- work announced today that a record-breaking total of 4,530 units were delivered to customers in May. These sales results represented a month-over-month increase of 26.4% or 947 additional units for May, thus shattering Mercedes-Benz Canada's all-time sales records and further propelling its year-to-date total sales to 18,031 units up 15.6%. This is the fourth time in the company's history, that Mercedes-Benz Canada has surpassed 4,000 units on a monthly basis. A total of 3,935 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were retailed in May, which is ahead by 32.8% when compared to last year's results. Mercedes-Benz passenger cars accounted for 2,287 units for the month, while light trucks results came in at 1,648 units, up by 37.4% and 28.6% respectively. Strong sales across the entire model line-up contributed to May's record-breaking success, with particularly buoyant CLS and S-Class performances. The GLA contin- ued to make solid gains throughout the month, while C-Class sales surpassed the 1,000 units mark. In May, Mercedes-Benz Vans also overshot their previously estab- lished monthly sales record by retailing a total of 479 units. Year-to- date growth continued at a compelling pace of 11.8%. The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 60.7%, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 91.3% of overall passenger car and light truck sales (excluding smart). smart reported a total of 116 vehicles sold in May. Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned sales increased by 8.7% resulting in the best May ever for pre-owned sales with a total of 1,517 units sold or 121 units. This pushed overall growth to 12.6% with 6,358 pre-owned units delivered year-to-date. Certified Pre-Owned sales grew by 13.1% for the month and by 19.5% for the year accounting for 85 % of the total volume of pre-owned sales.

MULTI-TASKING IMPROVES

PERFORMANCENew York, (IANS) Those who say you cannot do two things at once and do them both well may actuallybe wrong, says a new study that recorded benefits of multi-tasking on exercise. In the study of olderadults, who completed cognitive tasks while cycling on a stationary bike, the researchers foundthat par ticipants' cycling speed improved while multi-tasking with no cost to their cognitiveper formance. The surprising discovery challenges the prevalent notion that multi-tasking causes one or bothactivities to suffer. "Every dual-task study that, I'm aware of shows when people are doing twothings at once they get worse," said Lori Altmann, associate professor of speech, language andhearing sciences at University of Florida in the US. "Everybody has experienced walking some-where in a hurry when the person in front of them pulls out a phone and that person just slows toa crawl. Frankly, that is what we were expecting," Altmann said.During the study, 28 par ticipants with Parkinson's disease and 20 healthy older adults completed12 cognitive tasks while sitting in a quiet room and again while cycling. Tasks ranged in diffi-culty from saying the word 'go' when a blue star was shown on a projection screen to repeatingincreasingly long lists of numbers in reverse order of presentation.Par ticipants' cycling speed was about 25 percent faster while doing the easiest cognitive tasksbut became slower as the cognitive tasks became more difficult. Yet, the hardest tasks only broughtparticipants back to the speeds at which they were cycling before beginning the cognitive tasks. Thefindings suggest that combining the easier cognitive tasks with physical activity may be a way to get peopleto exercise more vigorously. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.

TIPS TO AVOID ACNE,RASHES IN SUMMERNew Delhi, (IANS) Take extra care of you skin during summer toavoid rashes and acne. Always wipe your sweat, keep yourselfhydrated and avoid a sedentary lifestyle, says an expert. Here are some tips from Pankaj Aggarwal of capital-basedAgrawal Homoeo Clinic, which can help you look flawless andacne-free:* Watch your diet: One should avoid food such as doughnuts, wheat bread, soda and baked potatoes. Removing sugary andstarchy products from your diet will help you control acne andwill keep you healthy in the long run.* Avoid stress: Physical as well as emotional stress has beenproven to trigger acne breakouts in some people. Try and re-duce stress.* Wrong cosmetics: Another common factor responsible forcausing acne is the use of cer tain kinds of cosmetics and cleans-ing products. Avoid using greasy or harsh products or thosewhose ingredients you are allergic to. These products tend toclog your skin pores and irritate your skin, and result in acnebreakouts.* Wipe your sweat: When you are out in the hot sun, you tend tosweat a lot. Your sweat contains toxins and impurities, so makesure you have a towel handy to wipe off the greasy sweat. Sweat-ing keeps your skin cleansed naturally, but needs to be wipedoff at regular intervals in order to prevent acne breakouts.* Facial hygiene: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser at regu-lar intervals. Splashing fresh water on your facial skin rejuve-nates it and the hydration prevents acne and pimples.* Include fruits and vegetables in your diet: Eat a lot of greenvegetables and fresh fruits. These foods not only work wondersfor your overall health, they are also vital sources of antioxi-dants, vitamins and other essential nutrients that erase the signsof acne and heal acne-ridden skin.* Hydration: Make sure you drink lots of water throughout theday. Water flushes out toxins and other impurities from yoursystem and keeps your skin cleansed and hydrated.* Avoid a sedentary lifestyle: Try and remain physically active.Yoga and exercise improve your skin and boost metabolism.* Wear comfor table clothing: Wear loose clothes that do notirritate your skin. Prevent acne breakouts by avoiding the heat, friction and constant pressure caused by restrictive headgearor other forms of athletic gear. Switch to cotton clothing insteadof wearing synthetic.* Clean up after exercise: Make sure you shower after exercis-ing to get the sweat and grime off as soon as possible. Whenyou sweat after a serious workout, there is an accumulation ofdead cells on the surface of your skin. It is essential to removethese immediately to avoid blockages which can then lead toacne breakouts.

Shield hair from monsoon humidityNew Delhi, (IANS) Relief from heat is what we get when the rain godsshow mercy, but rainfall also brings a lot of humidity. Be careful, it can beharsh on your hair. "With increased humidity, there is a lot of sweating asa result of which the scalp gets greasy and the hair lustreless and dull. This increased moisture in the hair makes the hair sticky, rough andfrizzy depending upon the type of hair," Geeta Oberoi, managing directorand founder member of Mumbai-based Skin & You Clinic, told IANS."The hot weather along with the sweaty, humid scalp makes it a goodarea that is conducive to growth of micro-organisms like bacteria andfungi, ultimately resulting in dandruff and flaking," she added. Oberoi alsoshared that polluted air can cause the hair to become more greasy andsticky due to the dust catching on the hair shaft. "There is also someamount of hair loss happening due to all these factors," she said. To helpyou keep your hair free from these problems, she has suggested wash-ing hair more frequently than usual as it reduces the dirt and stickiness."Keep the scalp as dry as possible by avoiding conditioners, oily lotionsand serums on the scalp. You can apply them at least an inch away fromthe scalp," said Oberoi. If you wish to use conditioner, pick according toyour type of hair. "Light conditioners for oily hair and slightly stronger

ones for the frizzy kind of hair," she said. Tying up wet hair is also not agood option. Use a blow dryer to keep your hair dry, she said. Last but notleast, focus on a balanced diet. "Drinking water frequently helps in keep-ing hair and skin refreshed. Have a well-balanced diet rich in vegetablesand fruit to keep your hair healthy," she said.Between 2002 and 2006, when they were aged between 43 and 66, theycompleted a detailed questionnaire covering lifestyle, current state ofhealth, levels of psychological distress, insomnia and job strain. Theresearchers found no link between road traffic noise and BMI. But therewas an association between road traffic noise and waist size, with a 0.21cm increase for every additional five decibel (dB) increase in exposure, although this was only significant among women. Similarly, there was alink to waist:hip ratio, with a change of 0.16 for every five dB increase innoise exposure to road traffic. This association was stronger in men. Alarger waist was significantly associated with exposure to any of thethree sources of noise, but the link was strongest for aircraft noise; alarger waist:hip ratio was associated with road traffic and aircraft noiseonly. The study was published online in the journal Occupational & Envi-ronmental Medicine.

London, (IANS) If you feel restless and end up lying awake inbed, try natural tips like inhaling through your left nostril androlling your eyes to get instant sleep.A survey by Crampex tablet makers has found that 86 percentof the population suffer from sleep disturbance. But one can trick oneself to sleep by trying these exper tnatural tips, repor ts mirror.co.uk.* Inhale through your left nostril: This yoga method is thoughtto reduce blood pressure and calm you. Holistic sleeptherapist Peter Smith says: "Lie on your left side, resting afinger on your right nostril to close it. Star t slow, deepbreathing in the lef t nostril." The exper t says this technique ispar ticularly good when overheating or menopausal hotflushes are preventing sleep.* Squeeze and relax: Relaxing all your muscles can prepareyour body for sleep. Anxiety exper t Charles Linden says:"Lying on your back, take a deep, slow breath in through yournose and, at the same time, squeeze your toes tightly as ifyou are trying to curl them under your foot, then release thesqueeze."* Try to stay awake: Challenge yourself to stay awake - yourmind will rebel! It's called the sleep paradox, says psycho-therapist Julie Hirst. She explains: "Keep your eyes wide

open, repeat to yourself 'I will not sleep'. The brain doesn'tprocess negatives well, so interprets this as an instruction tosleep and eye muscles tire quickly as sleep creeps up."* Rewind your day: Remembering the mundane details inreverse order clears your mind of worries. Sammy Margo, author of The Good Sleep Guide, says: "Recall conversations, sights and sounds as you go. It helps you to reach a mentalstate that's ready for sleep."* Roll your eyes: Margo says that closing your eyes and rollingthe balls up three times can do the job. She says: "It simulateswhat you do naturally when you fall asleep and may help triggerthe release of your sleepy hormone, melatonin."* Find your trigger: The key to this trick is to star t the habit asyou drift off during a period when you are sleeping well, thenyou can use it when you have difficulty. Do something unusual, such as stroking your own cheek, as you nod off, sayshypnotherapist Sharon Stiles.* Make a worry list: Going over a to-do list in bed is a majorcause of insomnia. Sharon Stiles says: "Often it's becauseyou're frightened of forgetting what needs doing. So before bed, write your list on paper so you can forget it until next day. Youcould also imagine filing your thoughts in a cabinet. You'll becalmer and more likely to sleep."

A DIABETES-FREE WORLD INNEXT 50 YEARS: SCIENTISTSWashington, (IANS) Although the way diabetics test their glu-cose levels has gone through dramatic changes over the past50 years, there is still a long way to go, say researchers.Earlier, the only way to assess diabetes control was by testingfor the presence of sugar in a person's urine, today there arenumerous, far more accurate ways to test blood glucose lev-els.It including the non-invasive A1C method which measures av-erage blood glucose levels over a three-month period."This gives us a nice marker for showing whether a person ison the right road or not," said Fred Whitehouse, division heademeritus at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. There has been a lot of change, most of it for the better. But whatpeople want is a cure and we don't have that yet, he added."Despite the enormous growth in our understanding of diabetesand its complications, we are still only able to manage thedisease," noted Rober t Ratner, chief scientific and medical of-ficer for the American Diabetes Association. The reason diabetes is a serious health problem is because ofthe complications."If there were no complications, diabetes would be like hy-pothyroidism and other easily managed diseases. You wouldtake a tablet to replace the hormone and everything would befine," said Michael Brownlee from the Alber t Einstein College ofMedicine's Diabetes Research Centre.New treatments must provide optimal glucose and metaboliccontrol without the risk of hypoglycemia and complicationsof diabetes should become historical memories. Also, every person with diabetes needs to create a systemfor remembering and dealing with his or her own treatment."The next 50 years must elucidate the mechanisms by whichboth Type 1 and Type 2 dia-be tes occu r, a long w i ththose critical steps at whichwe might intervene to pre-ven t d isease , " the au thorsemphasised during a specialsymposium held recently at theAmericanD i a b e t e sAssociation's75th scien-t i f ic ses-sions.

"It further goes down to 1,000 by the time shehits menopause. From the age of 32, the ability to conceive per monthlycycle decreases gradually but significantly due to decreasing ovarianreserve, and goes down rapidly af ter 37," he cautioned. Infer til-ity prevalence rates are difficult to determine due to thepresence of both male and female factors. One in every fourcouples in developing countries had been found to be af-fected by infer tility, according to a study conducted in col-laboration with the World health Organisation (WHO) in 2004.In 2010, almost 50 million couples worldwide were unableto have a child after five years of trying.
