Come with some ideas for other Happy Agers' outings you would like us to plan. MISSION FOCUS “Reconciliation doesn’t happen on a large scale……it happens person to person and in small groups.” Arville Earl works to reconcile ethnic groups among Albanians, Macedonians, Turks and the Romany Gypsies in Macedonia. Through fellowship, Arville facilitates communication about divisive issues, helping people understand one another and seek reconciliation. Shelia Earl focuses on education for children in need in the “Future of the Family” kindergarten. Shelia and Arville Earl are CBF missionaries living in Skopje, Macedonia. The Karen, an ethnic group originating in Myanmar (Burma), have suffered through nearly 60 years or civil war and persecution at the hands of Burma’s military rulers. In 2006 many Karen began settling in the United States from refugee camps in Thailand. Annette Ellard and Steve Clark, along with Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. where they are members, are welcoming a growing group of Karen and helping them adapt to life in the United States. Steve and Annette are CBF missionaries. Alina, a refugee from Moldova living in Asheville, NC, really wanted to learn to sew. Fran Graham learned about Alina’s wishes, purchased a used sewing machine and arranged sewing lessons. Now Alina, the oldest of seven children, can teach her younger sister and other family members to sew. Fran and Mike Graham, CBF missionaries, work among immigrants from the former Soviet Union in Asheville, NC. Your contributions to the Offering for Global Missions are necessary to sustain the ministries of CBF missionaries. Our goal is $2600. Please give prayerfully and generously. MUSIC & MISSIONS PROVIDES CHRISTMAS GIFTS The Fourth and Fifth Grade Missions class participated in Operation Christmas Child, which is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse. Each child in the class prepared a shoebox filled with a variety of useful items. These gift boxes will be Christmas presents for children around the world. Members of the Missions class include: (front row) Briar Walker, Sheridan Horne, Nerasia Tukes, (back row) William Fitch, MacKensie Rankin, Jacob Bartley. THANKSGIVING DINNER The OBC Thanksgiving Dinner held Saturday, November 19, 2011 was a huge success. One church member, who was in attendance, commented on how fun it was to hear everyone laughing and having a good time. In addition, it was a joy to share this time of thanks and fellowship with several guests. It would not have been possible without the help of the church "family". Thank you to everyone who set up, decorated, prepared food, served, led our service prior to dinner, and cleaned up after dinner. The positive response to help and take part in this event was overwhelming. Everyone's efforts were appreciated. After paying expenses OBC was able to donate $130.00 and several bags (140 lbs.) of canned and packaged food to Love Outreach Food Pantry. UPWARD BASKETBALL Registration has started, teams are being organized, practice is being scheduled, and the time is drawing near to “Let’s play ball.” First games begin January 14 at Orange Elementary gymnasium. Some children need someone to sponsor them at a cost of $45. Contact Greg Hines or church office.

STEWARDSHIP -- OCTOBERUnified Budget

Receipts $ 24,566.11 Disbursements $ 25,068.17

If a man is truly committed to the doing of God’s will, this will demonstrate itself in his stewardship. The kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God-the two terms are interchangeable-which simply means “acknowledgement of God’s sovereignty,” is like “hidden treasure” or a “pearl of great price.” It is worth the liquidation of all one’s assets to gain possession of that sovereignty, to yield fully to the stewardship which that sovereignty demands.

Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year!

Several churches in Orange are sponsoring CROP Hunger Walk on Saturday, January 14. The walk will raise funds for world hunger. Twenty five percent of what is raised will be returned to Love Outreach Food Pantry. Emily Fitch and Logan Lohr are our recruiters. They will be promoting the walk and enlisting others. Mark your calendars and generously support the CROP Hunger Walk. For more information visit www.cropwalk.org.

“Good Faith Food Box”--Feeding the Hungry

Announcing a new food program that replaces Angel Food Ministries. A $35 Holiday Box containing $65 worth of quality food was offered for the month of December. A total of twenty four families will receive food boxes for Christmas because OBC cares and found the Good Faith Food Box as an obvious choice for providing food. Our Local Missions team purchased eight boxes and church members purchased six boxes to be given away through the help of the Department of Social Services. Ten more boxes were purchased by a member to be given out by Love Outreach Food Pantry.

More boxes will be offered each month starting in January. Right now purchases are “cash only.” The availability of placing orders online by credit/debit/EBT (food stamps) cards is still in process. It is hoped that it will be up and running by beginning of the year.

Menus will be available in the church office, main Post Office, local Health Department, Department of Social Services and the Orange Free Clinic after Dec. 8. Share the word to help all families stretch their money to feed our families.

The Local Missions team also purchased and delivered food boxes to four families for Thanksgiving.

MESSIAH SING St. Thomas Episcopal church will sponsor a Messiah Sing on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 PM. Handel’s Messiah is an oratorio, written in London in 1741. It is the most widely performed choral work in the United States and in England.

An oratorio is a sacred choral and orchestral work that includes arias, duets, choruses, and a form of music called recitative, a type of singing that gets a large amount of text across in a short period of time, in place of dialogue.

Alan Miller will be conducting. Anyone who would like to sing is encouraged to attend. Music will be provided and a reception will follow. Those who would like to sit and listen are invited as well.
