2014 – 2015 CEEB CODE: 392375 Mission Statement Villa Maria Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school in the tradition of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, IHM, empowers young women to lead lives of spiritual growth, intellectual inquiry and Christian service. Faculty 83% of the Villa Maria faculty, which is comprised of a both religious and lay men and women, hold a Master’s Degree or higher. Enrollment There are 412 female students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in the 2014-2015 academic year. The student to faculty ratio is 7 to 1; the average class size is 15. College Profile 100% of VMA graduates plan to attend a four-year college or university. The class of 2014 applied to 217 different schools and currently attends 50 different colleges in 18 states and 3 countries. 35% was invited into Honors Programs. The class together earned $17.6 million in merit scholarship. We currently have four full-time college counselors making our college counselor/ student ratio 1 to 25. We also host graduate interns each year to enhance the resources available to our current students. On average 85% of VMA graduates complete their undergraduate programs within 4 years or less and graduate from the college or university they entered upon graduation from VMA. Academic Profile All VMA students complete 4 years of core courses, 3 lab sciences, at least 3 credits in electives, and a senior capstone Project. Over the past 6 years 10% of each senior class has been recognized by the National Merit Corporation for scholarly excellence. In 2014 VMA had 128 AP students and 100% took the AP exams. 26% were recognized as AP scholars and 15% were recognized with Honors or Distinction. Graduation Requirements Villa Maria Academy offers a four year, eight semester, college preparatory program. All students at Villa Maria Academy are expected to take a minimum of 27 credits. Each major subject is equal to one credit. All courses are offered at college preparatory, honors, or advanced placement levels. Students have opportunities to earn additional credits according to their individual needs and future plans. Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year all courses count to GPA.

Grading Villa Maria Academy uses an alpha grading system, with C+ (82) considered college qualifying and D passing. Courses are weighted according to the degree of challenge, making it possible for a student to have a quality point average (GPA) greater than 4.1. The quality point equivalent for college preparatory courses is listed below. Advanced Placement Program: Although 20 AP courses are offered, Villa Maria graduation requirements limit the number AP courses each student is able to take; generally students may not enroll in more than 7 AP courses while here at Villa Maria.

Senior Capstone Program: An inquiry-based experience, driven by student interest, is required for graduation; it involves critical thinking, investigative research, problem solving, written summary, and application of prior and acquired knowledge through documented field experience and or service. Academic Experiential Learning Program: Current areas of opportunity offered are in Allied Health, Education, Communications, and Information Technology. Diocesan Scholars Program: This opportunity is available to 2% of qualifying seniors who are selected to attend neighboring colleges and take courses, at no charge, for college credit during their senior year.
