Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,

We all know the parable of the king who goes on a journey and entrusts

some of his servants with "talents." Upon his return he inquires what they

did with his "talents" and how much profit they made for him... And we

all know how the various versions of the story end. We also know that our

King has gifted each of us with "talents." And woe to us who simply bury

our "talents" in fear. Instead we are called to use those "talents" in the

building of the kingdom. And it just so happens that I am looking for

some volunteers with some particular "talents:"

I have a couple of projects that require research. One is searching for

biographical information on a list of Saints & ancestors. This will be

used to put together a book on the "Cloud of Witnesses" that surround

our Baptismal Pool.

I am also looking for someone with some desk top publishing

experience. Someone who has used Publisher or something similar.

The book has already been designed, and so I just need someone to

insert the new information.

The other research project is searching for biblical passages.

We are looking for a couple people who have some experience with

DSLR cameras. We have a parish camera and we need a couple

people who will be willing to photograph various events, especially

during this jubilee year.

While we have someone working on this, we are looking for someone

to help keep our web page and new app up to date.

I have a few other projects that are on my wish list that would require

a few people with some time and perhaps some organizational skills.

Well these are a few of the projects we would love to scratch off our to do

list. Of course if you have other "talents" that were not listed, but you

think might be useful and you would like to see if you can put them to

good use, please don't hesitate to ask. The building of the kingdom, even

our small corner of it, requires many hands.

In the Redeemer,

LITURGY NOTES...

Why attend Mass? Let’s be honest - all of us have times when we would rather sleep in on Sunday morning rather than go to Mass. Yet, participating in Mass is an extremely important part of our religious tradition. It is while we are connecting with Christ through the Eucharist that our faith grows stronger and we can more clearly see the plans God has for us. If you are having difficulty remembering how important Mass is here are some thoughts or suggestions you can dwell on:

God asks us to give the first and best to Him. This includes giving the first hour of our week to Him through participation in the Sunday Mass. Is that too much to give to God who has given us everything?

We don’t necessarily go to Mass for our own personal enjoyment. We go to praise God and thank Him for all the good things He has given to us. God made us so-cial beings. He wants us to come together in communi-ty to worship Him. Jesus said, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I" (Matthew 18:20).

The Mass is first of all a sacrifice — the perfect sacri-fice, created by Jesus. Through the priest we offer Jesus, Body and Blood, to the Father, just as Jesus offered Himself to the Father on the Cross. Through this memorial of Jesus, we offer God our praise, sorrow for our sins, and deepest thanks.

The Mass is also a meal. At the Consecration, the bread and wine, through the power of the Holy Spirit, become the Body and Blood of Christ. Not a mere symbol, but Jesus's real flesh and real blood, under the appearance of bread and wine. When we receive Holy Communion, we receive Jesus Himself. He is real food for our soul.

The Third Commandment: Remember to Keep Holy the Lord’s Day is definitely not where the reason we are obligated to participate in Mass ends, but it is a good place to start. In the earliest days of Christianity, Sunday replaced the Sabbath as the Lord’s Day because it was on Sunday that Jesus rose from the dead, Sunday on which He appeared to two of His dis-ciples and broke bread with them. It was from that first day onwards that the faithful began to celebrate the memorial of Christ’s sacrifice and rising, and still to-day, it is in the breaking of the bread that we recognize Jesus. The Second Vatican Council also recognizes that Sunday as the foremost day to celebrate the Eucharist was handed down from the day of the resurrection.
