    NEWSLETTER

    It is a matter of great pleasure to know that the first

    issue of the Institute Newsletter is ready. The

    Newsletter will serve as an interface between the

    Institute and outside world. It provides information

    about the academic activities organized in the

    Institute. Information about co-curricular activities

    held during recent past is also shared.

    The Institute was established in the year 1957 by

    His Highness Late Sir Jiwaji Rao Scindia,

    Maharaja, Erstwhile State of Gwalior with the

    prime objective of providing technical education

    at under graduate and post graduate levels. Since

    the inception, the Institute constantly strived for

    excellence and quality. Today the Institute is an

    autonomous grant-in-aid institution of Government

    of Madhya Pradesh, enjoys a track record of

    extremely good results.

    I am happy to note that various initiatives are taken by the faculty todisseminate knowledge by organizing conferences, training programs and

    workshops. Expert lectures are also organized by various departments time

    to time to keep abreast with the latest developments in the field of science

    and technology.

    The Institute has done good job in the past and able to produce quality

    Engineers and Technocrats capable of providing leadership in all spheres of

    life and society. Needless to say our commitment to further enrich the

    quality of education will be our constant endeavour. The demand across the

    country for a vibrant technical human resource has made us committed for

    the same. It is for all of us to do hard work to make the Institute knownglobally.

    ACHIEVEMENTS

    A large number of students from all the

    major disciplines have come out with flying coloursin GATE 2012 examination. In all 123 studentscracked GATE 2012. The students were awarded

    certificates of appreciation and wrist watches by Er.Ramesh Agarwal, Honble Secretary, ScindiaEngineering College Society and Dr. Sanjeev Jain,Director during a small function organized onIndependence Day. Best of luck to all.

    Commission as Assistant Engineer, for WaterResources Deptt., Govt. of M.P. in Sept. 2012. It is amatter of pride that Vivek Kushwah has topped the

    list declared by MP PSC. Congratulations to all ofthem.

    Eight students Akash Gupta, AmbikeshPratap Singh, Arpit Gupta, Ayush Jain, Sagar

    Bodkhe, Sandeep Dogra, Shivam Shukla andVageesh Singh Baghel of B.E. 3rd year Mechanical

    Engg. participated and presented VIJAYANT designin Virtual Baja 2013 Design Challenge, the

    popular National Level Inter College Competition

    for the design of an ATV(All Terrain Vehicle). Thecompetition was organized by SAEINDIA (Society

    of Automotive Engineering India) Bangalore. Thedesign of MITS team was very well appreciated bythe judges.

    Four CSE & IT III year students Mohit Garg,

    Kratika Singhal, Ashish Khare and Shreya Gupta arechosen by IBM, the multinational giant in software

    industry, as TGMC Ambassador for the year 2012.TGMC (The Great Mind Challenge) is the IBM's

    national level programming contest that aimed atencouraging students from engineering collegesacross India in their endeavour to develop solutions

    for real-time problems and scenarios using IBM &Open Source Software. Our heartly congratulations.

    B.Arch. III year students Joseph Victor,Amber Mittal, Akansha Tiwari and Richa Mishra

    won the First prize in national level designcompetition for Designing Rehabilitation and

    Disaster Management Centre held at VNIT Nagpur.The competition was organized during the technicalfestival AXIS 2012 from 21st to 23rd Sept. 2012.

    Diksha Jain student of B.E.III year

    Biotechnology is appointed as the team head of NSSliteracy cum awareness program started in theinstitute last year for the benefit of under privilegedchildren of the society. Number of children has

    grown from 15 at the start of program to 126 atpresent.

    Indian Institute of Architect (IIA) which is a

    national body of Architects in the country establishedits Gwalior Chapter. The Institute has a major role to

    play in promoting the scientific and practicalefficiency of the profession of architecture both in

    Practice and in Education. In a function held on 28thAugust 2012, Dr. Alok Sharma, Professor Arch.Deptt. was nominated as its President.

    Congratulations.

    Dr. R.S. Jadon, Professor & Head MCADepartment has delivered a popular talk onElectronics Gadgets, during the CSI Gwalior

    AGM at Jiwaji Club, Gwalior on 8thSeptember 2012.The talk was informative about Technological

    Enhancements of Electronic Gadgets. Dr. Jadonexplained various popular electronic gadgets

    including mobiles, tablets, laptops etc. The talk washighly appreciated by the audience.

    Dr. M. K. Gaur, Asstt. Professor inMechanical Engg. Department was awarded

    Gwalior Ratna in the field of Science andTechnological Development for the year 2012.

    Dr. C. S. Malvi, Asstt. Professor inMechanical Engg. Department had recentlycompleted Ph.D. on Approaches to Increase theEfficiencies of Solar Energy Conversions from

    Energy Research Institute, University of Leeds,UK. He had received Overseas Scholarship to do PhD from Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment,Govt. of India. Heartly congratulations.

    CONFERENCE / TRAINING

    PROGRAM/ WORKSHOP

    ORGANISED

    CS & IT Department organizes training

    programs to impart technical skill based on latesttrends and requirement of industry, under the

    umbrella of IBM Centre of Excellence which isfollowed by certification exam. Recently organizedtraining programs are IBM WID from 14th to 17thJan. 2012 and IBM Lotus from 29thJuly to 1stAugust2012. Eighty nine percent of the students who have

    enrolled for these programs get the certification.

    Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the

    institute has organized two weeks fulltime FacultyDevelopment Programme in April and July this

    year. The programs were sponsored by Departmentof Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, N.Delhi and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE),

    Bhopal. Thirty participants attended each program.

    National Conference on Quality Assurancefor Construction of Cement Concrete Roads washeld in Civil Engg. Deptt. on 25

    thAugust, 2012. Er.

    V.K.Sharma, Former Engineering in Chief, PWD,Govt. of M.P. was Chief Guest on the occasion. He

    has focused on the need of quality monitoring ofconcrete roads. Dr. Binod Kumar, Senior Scientist,Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi waskeynote speaker on the occasion. He has explainedthe modern concepts of concrete and its application

    in the road construction industry. Dr.M.K.Trivedi

    and Dr. R.Kansal were Coordinators.

    A workshop on Recent Advances in

    Microwave was organized by the Department ofElectronics during 31 August-01 September, 2012.

    The workshop was attended by more than seventyparticipants from different parts of the country.

    Prof. K. K. Biswas from IIT-Delhi deliveredlecture on Vision Based Human Activity

    Recognition in Jan. 2012. The lecture was organizedby CS & IT Department.

    Dr. D.M. Tripathi, Professor Civil Engg., ITBHU has delivered expert lecture on Utility of Bio

    grades in Removing Toxic Elements from Water inApril 2012. The lecture was organized by Civil Engg.Department.

    Electrical Engg. Department has organized

    a series of expert lectures in the month of August-Sept.2012.

    First lecture was delivered by Er. Piyoosh Gupta,Deputy Director, CAMTECH, Gwalior on Reactive

    Power Management/Traction System on 7thAugust.It was followed by the lecture of Er. Gopal Agrawal,

    Consultant, Gwalior on Energy Audit &Management held on 16

    thAugust.

    Next lecture was from Er. Rameshwar Singh,Manager, PGCIL Gwalior. He delivered lecture on

    HV Transmission and Distribution & SubstationManagement on 28

    th August. Dr. C.S. Malvi,

    Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical

    Engineering, MITS, delivered lecture on Solar &Nonconventional Energy on 7th September, 2012.

    All the lectures were thought provoking in theirrespective domain.

    In an industry orientation seminar held on

    26th Sept. 2012 in the Department of

    Architecture, Practicing Architect and Alumni Ar.Vikas Shukla from Allahabad briefed students on a

    variety of topics. The seminar was organized in aninteractive mode. Detailed discussions were held onArchitecture as a Career, Role of Arts, StructuralDesign and Engineering, Emerging Job Opportunitiesand the Challenges faced by Young Architects

    during the seminar. Ar. Vikas Shukla is the recipientof many national awards and recognitions.

    CELEBRATIONS

    Independence Day Celebration: On 15

    th

    August, 2012 Independence Day was celebrated inthe Institute with dignity and honour. Er. Ramesh

    Agarwal, Honble Secretary, Scindia EngineeringCollege Society and Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Director

    hoisted the National Flag. They congratulated allfaculty, staff and students on this occasion. In theiraddress, they motivated all to work hard with

    dedication and sincerity for the upliftment of theinstitute.

    Teachers Day Celebration: On 5thSeptember 2012, the students of Department ofComputer Applications celebrated Teachers Day

    with great enthusiasm. It is the perfect opportunityfor the students around the world to pay a tribute to

    their teachers. Dr. R. S. Jadon, Head MCADepartment delivered a motivational speech on thisoccasion. All teachers present during the celebration

    suggested ways to students so that they can come upwith flying colours in their future. Students organizedvarious games for their teachers. It was a magnificentmoment of student-teacher interaction.

    Engineers Day Celebration: On 15thSeptember, 2012 Engineers Day was celebrated inMechanical Engg. Deptt. Tribute was paid to Indias

    greatest engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.Director Dr. Sanjeev Jain and prestigious alumni

    provided their precious input and guided thestudents. Faculties and students exchange their

    views about current and futuristic scenario ofMechanical Engineering. Final year students ofChemical Engg. also organized a function on thisoccasion.

    Ganesh Mahotsav : Ganesh Chaturthi

    festival was celebrated in the Institute Boys Hostel

    with religious sanctity. On this occasion, a Bhandarawas organized on 28th Sept. 2012 which was

    attended by students, faculty and staff to have theblessings of Lord Ganesha. Next day, the GaneshMahotsav ended with Visarjan of Lord Ganesha

    Idol. The students participated with great zeal andenthusiasm.

    STUDENT ACTIVITIES

    The Orientation Programme for B.E. / B.

    Arch. 1st year students admitted in the academic

    session 2012-2013, was held on 16thAug., 2012. Er.Ramesh Agrawal, Honble Secretary, Scindia

    Engineering College Society and Dr. Sanjeev Jain,Director highlighted the institute profile. Dr. LaxmiShrivastava, Dean Academics introduced the students

    to academic calendar and scheme. Dr. Abhay Mishra,Dean Student Welfare explained the various

    provisions related to welfare of students, and Dr.M.K. Trivedi, Dean Training and Placementexplained the functioning of T & P cell in the

    institute. It was followed by the deliberations fromall respective Heads of the Departments.

    Subsequently, students joined in oath ceremony fornot getting involved in any kind of indisciplinaryactivity. Later on, a formal visit of the students wasorganized to their respective departments.

    Poster presentation competition onGreen Engineering and Extempore on GeneralAwareness was conducted on 15

    thSept. 2012 under

    the aegis of ISTE MITS Chapter. The competitionwas open to students from all branches.

    Manthan 2012 - A quiz competition was

    held on 22nd Sept. 2012. The competition was

    organized by CSE & IT department for students ofall departments. Harshit Bhaudoria & VaibhavGupta from CSE Ist year received the first prize andRachit Saxena & Prakhar Jain of IT 2nd year

    received second prize.

    NCC Cadets of the institute has planted 50

    saplings of Guava, Jamun and Amla at College NCCCampus. One hundred forty NCC cadets took part in

    plantation held on 23rdSeptember 2012.

    PUNYA TITHI

    On the occasion of 11thPunya Tithi of His Highness

    Late Shrimant Madhav Rao Scindia, a ShraddhanjaliSabha was organized in the institute on 30th Sept.,2012. Honble Secretary, SECS, Er. Ramesh

    Agrawal, Director, Dr. Sanjeev Jain, all Deans,Faculty and Staff members paid their homage andoffer floral tributes to the Former Chairman ofScindia Engineering College Society and a legendvisionary. During the solemn ceremony, Bhajans

    were recited by famous radio artiste Shri RajendraPareekh and Shri Rakesh Jain, Sushri Parul Bandil,

    Sushri Oshin Jha. The sabha was concluded bydistributing the packets of stationary to around 150children who are a part of the NSS literacy

    programme of the institute. A Blood DonationCamp was also organized with the help of Indian

    Red Cross Society. Around 100 students includinggirls in large number along with faculty and staffmembers donated blood. Prof. Abhay Mishra, Dean

    Student Welfare and Prof. Manish Sagar, ProgramOfficer, NSS Unit, MITS organized the proceedings.

    Electrical Engg. Department is going to

    organize an AICTE sponsored National Conference

    on Evolutionary Computing Techniques inEngineering Applicationsduring December 17-18,

    2012. The objective of the conference is to generateawareness about the revolutionary changes taking

    place in the various disciplines of engineering atnational level.
