Our family extend a warm welcome to friends, neighbors and cattlemen to our 19th Annual “Back to the Basics”
Bull Sale.
We have made a big change to the ranch when on Dec. 4, 2012 we dispersed our bred cows. We have retained
all our 2012 heifer calves and plan to run a commercial herd along with a small group of purebred females.
This year we are offering only two year old Angus and Hereford bulls in the sale. Initially we had planned to have
the 19th sale on Feb. 9 as our last, but we made the decision to celebrate our 20th “Back to the Basics” in 2014,
selling a large group of Angus and Hereford two year olds.
Our program for the bulls is still the same – they are fed in large groups on a good roughage ration to make
them useful, working bulls.
We stand behind our bulls 100%, and
if there is a problem, we want to know.

want to produce just numbers to sell. At MJT we want to raise sound, economical high performance traits in our cattle without sacrificing birth weights or milk.
We strive to better these traits on a continuous basis.
We feel our commitment to this should help you, the rancher, produce predictable and profitable cattle from MJT genetics.
During the late 80’s and early 90’s the tape measure for hip height was used intensely for selecting cattle. At MJT we never focused our attention on height as we were well aware there was more traits to emphasize on than chasing a yard stick.
We know the Hereford and Angus breed didn’t gain their popularity for how tall they are - it is their maternal strengths, easy doing, longevity, moderate birth weight and overall structural soundness that established their reputation.
The cows can wean a calf crop under almost any conditions and still make you a profit.

We know good quality cattle can sell themselves, but it is our goal to give each of our customers personal service as well. We consider it a privilege to have our bulls working in so many ranchers programs.
We are confident in our bulls and we know there is no substitute for quality. MJT bulls are not pampered. They are raised right from the beginning to stay sound and athletic and to go to work for the rancher.
0% of MJT sale bulls have had their feet trimmed and 0% of our herd bulls are ever trimmed.

Cash was out of our Show Heifer “Rosie” MJT Charisma 228P’s first calf. He reminded us a lot of his sire “Total”, the type of calf you noticed every time you went to the pasture. Cash was Champion bull calf 2006 Lloyd Stockade Roundup and had the highest rate of gain of any calf in the barn. We sold Cash for 85,000 to Hirshe Herefords in 2008. There was a lot of international interest in him for semen but unfortunately he got a testicular infection and it damaged his semen quality for freezing. We use Cash as a pasture bull and everyone who sees him admires him.

We bought 4S from Lenoard Poholka at the Calgary Bull Sale in 2008. He had been used as a yearling at Lenoards and already had calves on the ground by sale time. We liked his extra length of body, natural muscling and had a good wide foot under him. Our Hereford Genes 2010 Bull was sired by 4S. A good maternal cow family to moderate sized females and excellent udders.

We would like to thank all our valued customers and friends for supporting our program. We welcome you to the annual “Back to the Basics” bull sale. We are very excited about the coming years, it has been a long time since the cattle business has been this positive. Calf prices are excellent and the momentum continues to build in a year where we have had winter for well over two months.
We have been in the business for 20 years and continue to stand behind our product and maintain the highest quality possible. We are working very hard on all aspects of our breeding program. The bulls have been developed slowly, with their future in mind.
The cow herd must perform under ranch conditions, breed back in 55 days, raise a calf every year or she doesn’t stay. Our bulls are sired 100% by our herd sires. These herd bulls must also survive and work hard.
As in the past, the bulls have been through the various culling stages. The bulls in the sale are the bulls we believe will benefit the cattle industry. All bulls in the sale are April/May born and are specifically held over to be sold as long yearlings. All calves were weaned November 11, 2011 backgrounded in the first winter, went to grass in May, home in September and are on a chopped hay/silage ration. They are supplemented with a 14% bull ration.

■ DISpuTeS In cases of dispute, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.
■ puRchaSeR’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
■ LIaBILITY MJT and staff accept no liability on sale day for accidents. However, all precautions will be taken to ensure safety.
■ heaLTh All animals will be sold in compliance with the health laws of Alberta. All sale bulls have been treated with IvOMEc. All bulls are vet inspected.
■ BReeDIng guaRanTee All bulls are guaranteed breeders. The Standard canadian Hereford and canadian Angus Association guarantee applies, as well as our 100% customer Satisfaction Guarantee. All bulls are semen tested and vet inspected. Under no circumstances shall MJT be responsible for more than the purchase price paid for the said animal.
