2 YWCA Delaware February 2009 www.ywcade.org

Hello,My name is Sandrea M. Behrens and I have the privilege

of being the Event Chair for the 4th annual YWCADelaware Evening of Style. This event recognizes localwomen who exemplify leadership, style and brilliancewhile making strides in their careers and communities toempower women and eliminate racism.

I have been a volunteer with the YW over the last 2 yearsand I have been honored to serve on its board for the lastyear and a half. I am passionate about the YW because of

the opportunities it gives young ladies and women toempower themselves. There was a point in my lifewhere I was feeling hopeless and I didn’t have the ben-efit of mentors to help guide me. I commit my time tothe YWCA so I may help others feel hopeful instead of

hopeless. I “pay it forward” by becoming a mentor or arole model for other women. Regardless of whether I’m

helping to serve birthday cake to residents of the Home-LifeManagement Center or Single Women’s Residence, participating in

panel discussions or engaging the young ladies though the TechGyrls program, I knowthat I am making a difference.

The YWCA Key Honorees for 2009 are being celebrated for the significant differencethey have made in the lives they’ve touched. Whether it’s breaking through glass ceilingsand making history, being an advocate for victims of domestic abuse, mentoring youngmen and women to prepare them for the rigors of college or fighting gender bias in theworkplace, these women have truly fulfilled the YWCA’s branding of ‘Eliminating Racism,Empowering Women’. It is my honor and pleasure to present to you the YWCA DelawareKey Honorees for 2009.
