MMO TUBULAR ANODES

Application

CTS supply MMO coated tubular anodes for use in shallow and deep groundbeds with or without canisters. The anodes are light weight and extremely durable both mechanically and also under the severe conditions found in deep groundbeds.

The anode consists of a proprietary mix of Iridum and Tantalum oxides on a Titanium substrate conforming to ASTM specifications. The tubular construction allows a low resistance centre connection to be made. Cable type can be varied to suit the environment in which the anode will operate.

MMO Tubular anodes are generally used in carbonaceous backfill which extends anode life and increases the permissible operating current. The following table gives recommended maximum current densities in different environments.

It is possible to achieve a longer life by increasing coating density or reducing anode current density.

Anodes are available in 19, 25 and 32mm diameter as standard with lengths up to 1.2m.

Quality Assurance

Strict quality procedures are followed throughout the coating process to ensure proper adhesion and loading. Each batch is subjected to thorough testing including:

• Review of Mill certs for Titanium substrate (ASTM B338 Grade 1 or 2)

• Accelerated life testing in 150g/l H2SO4 at 15000A/m2

CTS also supply different cable options to suit local conditions. The most commonly used cable types are:

Anode lead cable to anode connector is center connected to ensure low connection resistance (<0.001 ohm). All anode connections are resin sealed and resistance checked.

Note

The MMO coating and substrate are not considered to release hazardous chemicals during normal use.

No MSDS is therefore required.

Quality Assurance

All material shall be tested by a fully accredited Laboratory and certified in compliance to the specified international test standards. Each batch of product shall be accompanied by a Test Certificate verifying the test result against the specified limits. A reference sample of the respective batches shall be retained for a period of 12 months by the Laboratory.
