I. Introduction of Attendees
A list of the 30th Coordination Meeting attendees, indicating the meetings they attended, has been
incorporated into this document.
II. Vice-Chairman’s Remarks – Mark Freisthler, FAA
On March 28th through 31st, the 30th MMPDS General Coordination Meeting was held in San Antonio,
Texas. The meeting was very productive and well attended with representatives from major material
suppliers and material users world-wide including new international participant Lisi Aerospace (France)
The Industry Steering Group (ISG) continues to thrive with 38 companies from 10 countries. In addition,
the Government Steering Group (GSG) continues to provide substantial support to the MMPDS with
representatives from the FAA, USAF, Navy, and NASA in attendance. At the meeting, over 120 agenda
items were discussed resulting in significant additions to the MMPDS Handbook.
A couple of topics came up during the meeting that warrants additional attention. First is the continuing
efforts to verify the published derived values for legacy alloys. In general, it has been found that while data
for the directly derived data may be available, data needed to validate the indirect values are generally not
available. The Airframe Steering Group (ASG) proposed an approach for funding testing to obtain data
needed. The proposal suggested setting aside a percentage of current revenue streams to fund additional
testing. While the GSG does not believe that the current funding levels would allow us to dedicate these
resources without cutting into core MMPDS functions, further discussion regarding this proposal are
warranted. A team was formed to address the issue and report at the 31st MMPDS General Coordination
meeting.
The second topic is continuing the Emerging Technology Work Group (ETWG). While MMPDS has not
committed to publish a Process Intensive volume to address these materials in the near term, work needs to
continue to develop guidance which would allow data to be published sometime in the future.
Once again, I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and participation. I would also be
remiss if I did not recognize the contributions made by some individuals who will be moving on after this
meeting. Like any other organization, MMPDS’s continued contribution to industry depends on the support
of the individuals who share their knowledge and talents. While in some cases they did not wish to announce
their departure from the organization, their presence will be missed.
III. Approval of the 29th MMPDS Meeting Minutes
The 29th MMPDS Coordination Meeting Minutes were approved with no changes.

Jay Bennet will send comments to Preston McGill and Sam Cordner (NASA-Marshall).
S. Thompson advised they work with Rick Link (involved in ASTM). Requesting final
input to Battelle by June 15th, following ASTM meeting in May. Sample size was briefly
discussed. Agreed that heats and lots be revised to 3. Discussed sample size of 15
(instead of 30) as we are doing typical values instead of minimums and it is about twice
as expensive as plane strain to test. (A T99 is determined for plane strain for spec min.)
Or should it be 30, same as plane strain fracture toughness, for consistancy. No final
decision on number of specimens (either 15 or 30).
14-66 MTG 2Addition of 15-5PH Sheet S-Basis per

Finalize in fall after publication of ASTM E238 with fracture modes. Request permission
to include figure from ASTM. Revise text in agenda from "Failure modes" to "Fracture
Modes" for consistency with ASTM wording.
15-13 MTG MATSSG 9Clarification of Shear Orientation for
Legacy AlloysContinue
Update shear orientations for 2013, Table 3.2.1.0(b) from L to T-L and from T to L-T.
Noted per ASTM B831 (slotted). Add test method ASTM B769 for 7050 in Table
3.7.5.0(b1). Regarding titanium alloy Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Fe-2Mo, NKK is now JFE. Akiko

15-34 GTG 9 Stress-Strain Curve Extension Continue
Work with F. Bron to prepare agenda for fall meeting. Current method will have to be
retained for some materials. The big question is how to determine which method is
appropriate. Suggestions are requested.

Discuss in ASG & MATSSG for Fall. Comments: G. Bray noted that the rate will be too
slow for lot release, would limit ability to do legacy analysis. S. Thompson is finding that
in small populations, YS is combinable but US may differ. E. Heckman suggested rate
info be submitted with properties, to be kept for information. R. Rice suggested a table in

Ad hoc group formed to coordinate between ASG and MATSSG to discuss this and Item
15-51. Group consists of R. Goode, G. Bray, R. Nash, V. Dangerfield, M. Hahn, A.
Inoue, C. Heine, M. Freisthler, and J. Rubadue. Recommendation to be prepared for next
meeting agenda.

17-25 GTG 9Re-evaluation of Reduced Ratio Sample
Size DeterminationNew
Current guidelines determine ratio by average of lot properties and use the number of lots
for 'n'. This new item is to evaluate using the number of pairs for 'n' instead of number of
lots. This will result in smaller 't', but may have larger scatter. Prepare agenda clarifing
item with examples to show how this may increase and decrease results.
17-26 GTG ASG 9Guidelines for Generation and Use of A/B
Allowables for CastingsNew
ASG and MTG discussed this briefly this meeting. D. Hall, L. Steele, R. Goode. Others
may be added. May decide to include MATSSG.
17-27 FatWG 9Add Requirement to Chapter 9 Fatigue
Correlative InformationNew
Prepare agenda to add a requirement to identify the material specification for the fatigue
data. This will be included in correlative information.

17-31 FTG 9Sunset Shear Strength Rule Criteria
AdditionNew If the largest diameter fails, consider dropping this diameter and keeping other diameters.
17-32 GTG-F FTG 8 Edit Table 8.1.5.1 New Related to Item 12-52. An agenda will be presented in GTG at Fall meeting.
17-33 GTG 9Alternative Fitting Function for Effect of
Temperature DataNew
D. Hall, Honeywell, has suggested a possible new fitting function for representing effect
of temperature data do not show monotonically decreasing trends with increasing
thickness. This model must be evaluated with some representative datasets.

Check with Constellium and Arconic about very thick product. See if the tempers are
registered to that thickness and if suppliers are willing to register temper, revise AMS,
