/traffic management in cities and provinces

>the right development >english

The road network is a web of carriageways, bridges, tunnels, footpaths, cycle paths and parking locations. Within this network we identify reference and control points. At reference points we point out journey times, the preferred route or available parking spaces to road users. At control points we divide the road capacity among the incoming traffic. By dynamically matching these interconnections to each other, real-time traffic problems can be tackled and network-wide traffic management can be achieved. Road users are encouraged to match their travel choices to the traffic situation.

Simple and fast resultsBy linking your current or planned roadside systems, automatic controls and panels to MobiMaestro, you can begin operational traffic management at the network level straight away. MobiMaestro has been successfully implemented in several municipalities including Rotterdam, Deventer, Utrecht, Breda and Venlo, and in the province of Noord-Holland, with more to follow.

Incremental and Supplier-independentMobiMaestro uses your existing automatic controls, dynamic reference panels and monitoring systems and communicates over your existing telecom connections. These traffic management tools connect to the MobiMaestro data bus to provide data to the system and to enable it to influence traffic on the network, all from a single operations centre.Connecting these systems to MobiMaestro lays the foundation for a scalable network-wide traffic management approach. You can start off with a single application targetted at your current traffic problem and add new functionality step by step to further improve your network performance as funding or experience permit. MobiMaestro scales to meet your ambition and functionality can be added step-by-step.

The FutureWe are working on a digital cloud for MobiMaestro to allow specialist traffic consultancies to add their own traffic management applications (apps).

Road traffic is growing; cities and provinces are increasingly faced with

congestion and its associated impacts. How can we solve this problem?

More tarmac is often not an option, so what can be done?

/how do you make traffic flow?

>dynamic route management

Optimally guide travellers to their destination, via the most effective route in the light of the current traffic situation, using dynamic route guidance (RouGe). RouGe uses data about queues, bridges, events and roadworks to calculate its guidance, relaying this information dynamically to travellers via roadside DRIPS and other information panels.

>Traffic control system management

Remotely manage traffic control systems using the VINCE traffic regulation centre. VINCE allows you to access your systems remotely at all times and to interact with them using your normal traffic science terminology. Reduce waiting times by setting up alternative preferred routes or implement green waves with grouped actions across multiple traffic control systems that are simple to deploy.

>dynamic parking guidance

Guide road users to a free parking space quickly and without searching with dynamic parking guidance, also known as parking route information system (PRIS). Dynamic parking guidance and PRIS use data from the data bus about the degree of occupancy of parking locations and the current traffic situation in the area. Parking routes and parking guidance are dynamically adapted in the light of this data.

>network-wide supervisor

Tackle traffic problems with network wide solutions by saving control measures in the Supervisor and deploying them either automatically or under the management of the traffic operator. In addition you can enhance your decision making with decision support that gives the traffic operator suggestions for actions to be taken and maintains a full log of all activities.

>open and independent system

>interfaces with road users

Implement traffic information 2.0 and exploit new media such as smart phones and internet browsers to deliver information to travellers. For example, Deventer now has its own web page and the Dutch SpitsScoren and Spitsvrij mobility projects have their own apps about the optimum personal travel situation.

>hosting: local or at Technolution

Perhaps you want the advantages of a dynamic, remotely operable system but don’t have the capacity to host it yourself? MobiMaestro can be hosted in our datacentre and delivered on a software as a service (SaaS) basis.

>the focus is on the traffic operator

OverviewTraffic management is still done by people, which is why the traffic operator’s overview is key. MobiMaestro displays information from all of the roadside systems in a single easy-to-understand visual presentation. Status is indicated in colour and by means of icons, allowing them to be assimilated at a glance. The functionality available to the user is accessible via both geographic and list overviews.

Working efficientlyMobiMaestro is grafted for high speed working. Events which are significant for a traffic operator are immediately passed through to applications. Changes made by other users and data from roadside systems are immediately visible in the operating applications of all users.

While working, a traffic operator can create and call up a memo. These memos enable the traffic operator to note behaviour or comments for a roadside system or control scenarios which may be useful at a later stage, for example when handling faults or temporary settings. The system also has an online ‘Wiki’, which means that the latest version of the manual is always at everyone’s disposal.

Individually configurable workplace The operating application itself offers the traffic operator plenty of scope to set up the most suitable screen configuration. The screen configuration is linked to the user and saved. When the traffic operator logs in, his most recently saved screen configuration is displayed so that he can easily continue with his tasks.
