Introduction
Welcome friends to the CL online CAT training experience. This document tells you how to effectively use the MBA Test Prep On-Demand (or MOD for short) program. You should spend some time on this document once and to then refer back to it whenever you need it.
The document takes you through the screens that you may encounter as you begin to use the program.
Feedback Anchors
This is a very large program not just in terms of the number of hours it will take you to go through it but also in terms of the number and complexity of the html and interactive flash files that it contains. Please do get in touch with us if you encounter any errors or problems as you go through the program and we will get them corrected ASAP.
There are broadly two types of problems you may encounter.
1) Navigation and interactivity related problems:
Examples:a. You click on a button or a link and a blank white screen comes up and nothing
happens even after two or three minutes b. You click on a next or previous button inside a topic in Algebra and the content
changes from Algebra to Probabilityc. You click on a button or a link and nothing changes on screen
Caution: Some of the flash files are pretty large and may take a few minutes to load the first time you click on their links. However in most places a loading screen will show you the progress of how much of the file has been downloaded.

2) Content related problems:
Examples:a. The solution to a quiz question is wrongly given or the solution is of some other
problemb. The voice over in the ‘Funda’ portion says something that you know is incorrect c. Some text on screen doesn’t match the voice or is written wrong

Academic Design
The MBA Test prep on demand has been designed keeping in mind the need for an MBA aspirant to have a virtual teacher who can be accessed 24x7 for clearing any concepts. Here are some facts and thoughts behind the design of MOD.
Question Response1. Comprehensiveness The following were kept in mind while designing MOD
1. It must cover at least 90 % of the scope of any MBA Test Preparation.
2. Based on an in depth analysis of all the critical MBA admission tests . So if you can master what is in MOD, you would be on the way to a good B School
2. Depth The Version 1.0 of MOD has “same stuff” for all users. So we have taken adequate precaution to be able to keep every level of student engaged in the sessions. There are sufficient amount of “challenging” questions and discussions spread over the topics.
To give relief and keep you intellectually stimulated a fairly good number of “puzzles” has been sprinkled across the different topics.
3. Practice MOD is intended to be a programme that clears the concepts of a student. The basic methodology is Funda Quiz ( Basic and then Advanced ) Funda…till the topic is completed.Once you are through with a topic, refer to “exercises” in your books (or) attempt the Topic Tests in the TEST GYM on your SIS.
4. Usage / day The recommended usage is about 60 to 90 min per day. If you consistently spend this amount of time with MOD and exhaustively do all the stuff that is provided it could take you anywhere between 3 to 4.5 months to complete the programme.
5. How do I use it ? Two ways : 1) If you are using it as the sole resource for your preparation It should be MOD Test Gym MOD….
2) If you are also attending “live “ class room lectures the best usage would be Study material MOD “Live” Lecture MOD (Funda) + Quiz Study material + Test Gym
6. Who do I contact, if there is a doubt ?
The two mentors that you have been assigned to till Dec 31, 2011 are Abhishek Gupta and Vijay Jha. They can be reached at [email protected] and [email protected]

Now let us move to some of the “screens” that you would encounter during the course of your experience.
Screen 1: Login
Screen name Login screenHow did I get here? By clicking on the Access MBA on Demand link on the HOME
page of the CL Student Information System or the SISWhat do I do now? Type in your login ID and password and then click on the ‘Login’
buttonPoints to note Take the time to read the note on this screen the first time to loginWhat should I do next? Clicking on ‘Login’ takes you to a screen which allows you to
navigate through the program
Screen 2: Main menu
Screen name Main menu screenHow did I get here? By entering the CORRECT user name and password for MOD in
the login screenWhat do I do now? Clicking on the tree on the left of the screenPoints to note The tree has three main headings.
a. Introduction- An introduction to MOD that tells you how to navigate through the content
b. Quant- Includes all the Math, DI topics in the program. Arithmetic, algebra, probability etc.
c. English- Includes all the English topics in the program. Nouns, reading comprehension, tones etc.
Clicking on the main menu items opens them out one level.Clicking on the open tree items closes them again. The red icon to the left of the menu item tells you whether the menu is expanded or closed
What should I do next? Click on the menu item that you want to go to. In this document we will see what happens when we click on ‘Introduction’
Page 6 of 25
Screen 3: Static Ad
Screen name Ad screenHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘Introduction’ on the menu on the leftWhat do I do now? You can click on any of the links on the tree on the left of the
screenPoints to note Clicking on any menu item that has a sub level makes the menu
expand and shows the AD screen. In the screen shown above I clicked on ‘Introduction’ which expanded that menu item to show ‘How to use this program’ as a sub menu
What should I do next? Click on ‘How to use this program’ if you want to see it or you can click on any of the other menu items that you see on screen
Page 7 of 25
Screen 4: Loading screen
Screen name Loading screenHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘How to use this program’ on the menu on the leftWhat do I do now? Wait Points to note Menu item gets highlighted when you take your mouse
over it. Clicking on the menu item makes the program download
the relevant content. The counter on the screen shows you the progress of the download.
Depending on your internet connection speed, you may have to wait a couple of seconds to a few minutes. Once the download is complete you will be able to play this instantaneously the next time, if you do not clear the temporary internet files.
What should I do next? Wait to see the introduction

Screen 5: How to use this program
Screen name Introduction contentHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘How to use this program’ on the menu on the leftWhat do I do now? Listen to the self running content and wait for it to finishPoints to note This introductory segment has no pause and play button unlike all
the other self-running content in this program. So you will have to play it in its entirety by clicking on ‘How to use this program’ again if you want to see a specific part in the middle
What should I do next? Click on any of the other menu items that you see on screen
Page 9 of 25
Screen 6: Chapter AD sample 1
Screen name Chapter main AD screen 1How did I get here? By clicking on ‘Arithmetic’ on the ‘Quant’ menu What do I do now? You can click on any of the links that are now showing on the
menu tree Points to note This screen is exactly similar to ‘Screen 3’ because this is also an
AD screen. However you may see different ADs coming up for different chapters in the subsequent versions of MOD. This screen also highlights that some chapters may be hidden under sub menus. Here ‘Percentages’ which is a full chapter is under ‘Arithmetic’ which is under ‘Quant’
What should I do next? Click on ‘Percentages’ on the menu or click on any of the other menu items that you see on screen
Page 10 of 25
Screen 7: Chapter AD sample 2
Screen name Chapter main AD screen 2How did I get here? By clicking on ‘Percentages’ under ‘Arithmetic’ which itself is
under ‘Quant’What do I do now? Same as what you did in the previous screen. You click on any of
the menus visible on screenPoints to note When we clicked ‘Percentages’ nothing seemed to change on
screen except the tree opening up one more level. Actually the graphic changed too but since we are not using any advertising in this version of MOD except the CL name the same AD came up again giving you the illusion that nothing changed on screen
What should I do next? Click on ‘Diagnostic Exercises’ on the menu or click on any of the other menu items that you see on screen
Page 11 of 25
Screen 8: Diagnostic Exercise
Screen name Diagnostic ExerciseHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘Diagnostic Exercise’ under ‘Percentage’What do I do now? Solve the problems that come up on screen one by one.
You cannot skip questions.Points to note There are usually at least 5 diagnostic questions that you need to
solve in the chapters in Quant. Diagnostic Tests are not incorporated in the English Section. After you solve the problem and click on what you consider the correct answer a ‘Next’ button appears on screen. Clicking on NEXT takes you to the next question. At the end of the test you get your score. The answer key lists out all the correct answers
What should I do next? Click on the ‘Next’ button that appears when you choose an answer option and go on to solve the next diagnostic question that comes up on screen
Page 12 of 25
Screen 9: Diagnostic analysis
Screen name Diagnostic analysis reportHow did I get here? By clicking on the ‘Next’ button on the final diagnostic exercise What do I do now? Read through the message on screen and clicking on ‘Answer’
takes you to the answer key. Points to note Only the answer key is given as shown in screen 10.
The solutions are not worked out in detail. You may like to come back and solve the exercises again after you go through the entire chapter and see if you get the correct answers
What should I do next? Click on ‘Answer’ button if required or click on any of the other menu items that you see on screen
Page 13 of 25
Screen 10: Diagnostic answer key
Screen name Diagnostic answer keyHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘Answer’ on the diagnostic analysis screenWhat do I do now? Read the answers and note which ones you got wrongPoints to note There is no solution only the correct answer key on this screenWhat should I do next? Click on the ‘Next’ button if it is on screen or click on any of the
other menu items that you see on screen
Screen 11: Intro
Screen name Sample Intro screenHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘Percentage Equivalence’ under the ‘Percentages’
chapterWhat do I do now? Click on the ‘Start’ buttonPoints to note Intros in the program are designed to do two main tasks
1. Give a short introduction to the topic highlighting some point of interest2. Lay out the learning objectives (LO’s) of the particular topic
Note however that in many topics only the LO’s are listed out and in a few topics there is no ‘Intro’ button at all
What should I do next? Watch whatever happens when you click the ‘Start’ button
Page 15 of 25
Screen 12: Intro content
Screen name Sample Intro contentHow did I get here? By clicking on the topic ‘Successive %ages’ under ‘Percentages’What do I do now? Listen to the self running content and wait for it to finishPoints to note This shows a sample of the rich content that many of the Intros
haveWhat should I do next? Wait for this to finish
Page 16 of 25
Screen 13: LO’s
Screen name Sample LO’sHow did I get here? By waiting for the self running intro content to finish and end up
in this screen What do I do now? Read through the LO’sPoints to note Some intermediate topics that build up on previous topics may not
have explicit LO’s hence they are not listed out in this mannerWhat should I do next? Click on the ‘Funda’ tab
Page 17 of 25
Screen 14: Blank screen
Screen name Blank error screenHow did I get here? By clicking on ‘Funda’ in a topicWhat do I do now? If a blank screen like this stays on your screen for more that 2 or 3
minutes and you have a broadband connection it means that we have messed up a html link from our end. Please send an email immediately to [email protected] and I will get it fixed up ASAP
Points to note This kind of screen also appears if your internet connection is slow. However this screen will quickly lead to the loading screen with the CL logo if the link is functional. A blank white screen for three minutes is a sure sign of a bug that escaped our checking process
What should I do next? Click on some other topic on the menu tree because there is no point looking at this particular topic’s ‘Quiz’
Page 18 of 25
Screen 15: Funda
Screen name Sample Funda screen, Segment 1.How did I get here? By clicking on the ‘Funda’ tab after clicking on ‘Successive
%ages’What do I do now? Listen carefully to the voice and pay attention to the content
changing on screen. Do the activities or solve the problems that come up on your screen and ask for your inputs.
Points to note The hierarchy of the content is that a chapter (Percentages) can have many topics (Successive percentages) and each topic has an Intro, Funda and Quiz. Each Funda can have many segments (Succesive percentage change is segment 1 of this topic and as the top panel shows this topic has 3 segments)
The navigational buttons that you see on screen are self-explanatory. Please proceed to use them and find out for yourself how they work.
A point to remember is that when the ‘Narration’ button is pressed the text of what the voice is saying comes up on screen and the voice stops. If you want to ‘listen’ again you need to press the button again
What should I do next? Wait for the content to play through
Page 19 of 25
Screen 16: Funda ending
Screen name Funda segment ending screenHow did I get here? By letting the segment 1 of the highlighted topic play throughWhat do I do now? Take a deep breath. It makes you less sleepy Points to note This screen also highlights inside Funda when the voice stops.
The screen usually has an instruction that comes up telling you what to do next. Here it says- ‘Click on the NEXT button’
Notice also that the slider bar in the bottom panel has reached the end. You can use your mouse to drag this and press the ‘Play’ button to go to any part of that segment.
What should I do next? Click on the ‘Next’ button to go to the next segment of Funda
Page 20 of 25
Screen 17: Funda segment sample 2
Screen name Funda segment 2How did I get here? By clicking on ‘Next’ at the end of the previous segmentWhat do I do now? Watch and interact and learn Points to note Segment 2 is now highlighted on the top panel. You can also click
directly on the segment number here to navigateWhat should I do next? Go through all the segments in this Funda one by one
Page 21 of 25
Screen 18: Quiz question
Screen name Quiz questionHow did I get here? By clicking on the ‘Quiz’ tabWhat do I do now? Solve the problem on screen and click on the answer you think is
correctPoints to note There is no way to navigate to the next question without first
getting the correct answer of the question on screen. What should I do next? Click on any of the 5 answer options on screen
Page 22 of 25
Screen 19: Quiz incorrect answer feedback
Screen name Incorrect answer feedback dialog boxHow did I get here? By clicking on the incorrect answer choiceWhat do I do now? Read what the feedback box says Points to note In this program we have tried to give you answer choices that
catch the common errors that you may commit in your solutions. Therefore the feedback box in many places lists out the probable mistake that you may have committed. So please pay extra attention to these boxes because they may help sort out many of your conceptual problems
What should I do next? Click on the close button and choose another answer option
Page 23 of 25
Screen 20: Quiz correct solution
Screen name Quiz correct solution dialog boxHow did I get here? By clicking on the correct answer optionWhat do I do now? Read through the solution and see if your method of arriving at
the solution was different or notPoints to note Many of the problems in Quant have been solved using multiple
methods. Please remember to scroll the solution page right down so that you don’t miss any alternative solutions that are hiding below the level of the dialog box.
It is only after the solution box appears that the ‘Next’ button appears at the right bottom of your screen. So you have to get the right answer before you get the next quiz question
What should I do next? Close this dialog box and go on to the next question

Conclusion
The 20 screens that are featured here are representative of what you will mostly face in the program. However there are a lot of variations in the individual chapters, which you will encounter. Also the English chapters have a slightly different way of navigation through them. But if you have been able to use the program properly with the guidelines given in this document you don’t need any more help.
So happy learning and may this program help you in getting into your favorite B-school.
