The Model TB417 converts an on-stream conductivitysensor signal to an isolated 4-20 mA output. It functions asan extremely stable analyzer and provides an interfacebetween the stream sensor and a variety of recorders,controllers, computers and data loggers commonly used inindustry. The TB417 is able to accept a wide range of DCpower inputs from 12 to 40 Vdc.
The TB417 utilizes an exclusive, patented 4 electrodemeasurement circuit (US Patent 4118663) that automaticallycompensates for fouling and polarization while maintainingexcellent linearity and accuracy across wide ranges ofconductivity. Using a unique yet simple circuit design, theModel TB417 also monitors its own performance and candetect whether its sensor needs servicing.

Notification of a fouled sensor can be achieved with theaddition of the TBI-Bailey Sensor Service Module (SSM) tothe Model TB417 current loop. Three jumper selectablesensitivity limits exist within the TB417; early warning,medium and normal.
When the optional Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) isselected with the Model TB417, user convenience andease of calibration are greatly enhanced. The Conductivityvalue is continuously displayed, but transmitter output isavailable, to 0.1 mA resolution by simply depressing the“Display Transmitter Current” front panel pushbutton. TheModel TB417 displays the true process Conductivity valueindependent of output current transmitter signals.
Calibration controls accessible on the front panel allowfor easy adjustment without exposing transmitter electronics.A range switch, located at the lower front panel, furtherextends this instrument’s versatility. This switch permitsimmediate selection of any of five analyzer range factors(0.01, 0.10, 1.00, 10.00 and 100.00) to extend themeasurement range of any TBI Conductivity sensor.
Housings for the Model TB417 are NEMA 4X. Protectivefinishes can be specified as either unpainted anodized orpolyurethane coated and anodized. CPVC may be selectedto replace the aluminum electronics and terminal coversleaving only the main casting as metal. Mechanical mountingof these instruments may be made directly to conduit, orthrough use of our optional mounting bracket, the ModelTB417 may be conveniently mounted to a wall, l-beam,angle or pipe.

Although TBl’s four-electrode sensor design is highlyresistant to errors from process fouling, the accuracy of ameasurement can be greatly affected when fouling becomesexcessive. If the sensor does not receive the propermaintenance, an industrial plant could suffer losses inefficiency as well as reductions in equipment life-span. Theaddition of the optional Sensor Service Module (SSM)eliminates the guess work in predicting these maintenanceintervals.
The SSM monitors the output current from the ModelTB417. When sensor fouling exceeds the preset limit(determined by a jumper within the Model TB417), theModel TB417 sends a 200 mv p to p 90 Hz signal to the SSMactivating the SPDT dry contact closure and the 24 Vdcpowered relay.
The module, in conjunction with the Model TB417, hasthree levels of fouling sensitivity: early warning, medium,and normal. Early warning sensitivity activates the SSMbefore sensor deposits affect conductivity measurements.Normal sensitivity triggers the SSM when the accuracy ofa given indication is affected by +/- 0.5%. The mediumsensitivity compromises between these two settings.Selecting the fouling sensitivity dictates the balance betweenmeasurement accuracy and the frequency of sensormaintenance.
