Situation analysis: Before developing the project proposal there was conducted a Feasibility study in the project implementing area. The feasibility study team comprised with experience member from different department Islamic Relief Bangladesh. They conducted the study by using different methodology such as, key informer’s interview, FGD, questioner, interview with LGI, interview with local service provider & Local administration. According the result of feasibility study the project has developed and there is reflected the local desire. Project Goal and objective

Project Objectives and Results:

Overall objective: To ensure sustainable development of the orphan and their

families as well as restore their social dignity and protection.

Specific objective:

To ensure sustainable development and social dignity through enhanced productivity, income, livelihood security, rights and protection of the orphan and their families in Bangladesh

Project Expected Result

Result-1: Enhance wellbeing of the targeted orphan children including survival, protection, participation, mobilization, and healthy development to continue their education. Result-2: Improve the status of the orphan families and livelihood through economic productivity, income, asset, food accessibility and- consumption, and improved living status of 650 targeted orphan and widow households Expected Result-3: Increased community awareness and established community organization linkage with Local Government Institutions for establishing social dignity through participation, social inclusion, attending voice rise to rights and protection.

Staff’s Capacity development There was organized 5 days long residential training course on project orientation for all staff s that are recruited for ALO-IRUSA at the beginning. As well as the project has organized Project implementation planning training, Monitoring and Evaluation training, entrepreneurship development training.

Introduced with local government and Administration The project organized inception workshop at district, sub district and union level at the beginning stage to start the implementation. Beneficiary selection The process of beneficiary selection is very intensive. The project first collects primary orphan household data from local government institutes and representatives. Then visit every household for validation of information.

Documents Collection Based on information, project collect different types of documentation for selection as beneficiaries like;

Father’s death certificate

National Id of Guardian

School certificate (In case of student)

Birth registration

Health certificate

Character certificate

OFAC test result etc

Self Help Group Formation Self help group formed comprising 10-15 beneficiaries who are living closely each other. The Groups are setting in a weekly meeting and discussing different issue for improving awareness on health, education, protection and livelihoods.

Child Club Child club is formed by the selected orphan family’s children but there are outside children as associate members. Each child club have around 40-50 children. The children are using the club as recreation and knowledge development center. Children also conduct monthly meeting for sharing, planning, learning to action on child lead total sanitation and child protection. Bank account Opening

Capacity Development of Group leader Each group leader i.e. Chairperson, Secretary and Cashier have received the 3 days ToT course on Group Management, Leadership and Financial Management. After received the course the leaders are provided the leaning in their group. Need Assessment for Income Generating Activities

The project has conducted the beneficiaries need assessment for starting the income generating activities. The methodology of need assessment was individual interview and household visit.

Skill Development Training The project has provided the skill training for all beneficiaries. The course was designed as per the result of need assessment, Livestock, Homestead farming and entrepreneurship development for general trade.

Cash Support for Starting Business Each beneficiary has received BDT 18,000.00 financial grants (as Kard al Hasana) for starting business as per their training. Mentioned that they have selected multi business to cover the risk and ensure daily income in family.

Follow up Income Generating Activities After receive skill training and cash the beneficiaries started business and project staffs providing technical support and continuing follow up.

Formation of Union Sabolamban Women Forum (USWF) Beneficiaries are formed union wise apex body to raise the voice and ensure dignity by collecting affords. 11 executive members of each USWF are elected by direct vote of selected orphan family and others households are as general member. The USWF are communicating and networking with agency for ensuring better services for orphan families
