BENEFICIAL
POLICY PROPOSAL
By: Jenna Brown
(Module 6 Project)
LETS FIX NOISE POLLUTION!
What is noise pollution?!
Noise pollution is a type of energy pollution, a
high generally unwanted environmental noise. It is
made by either people or machines and negatively
impacts the life of both humans and animals in the
sense that it disrupts communication, work, rest,
recreation, and/or sleep.
Where does noise Pollution Occur, and
who is responsible?
The highest frequency of noise pollution occurs in Urban
Industrialized areas, the majority of the noise itself is
created through construction, transportation, and audio systems
How would Taking action be beneficial
to the overall community?
People
• The Constant loud noise effect both the Psychological and physical health of humans. Protection should be used for people who are in constant exposure to loud noise because the exposure has led to increased stress levels, depression, sleep deprivation, inability to sleep, anxiety, panic attacks and even high blood pressure. This exposure could also with time aid in the deprivation of ones hearing. Noise are comparative to drugs in the sense that you build a tolerance to it and therefore feel the need to increase the volume inevitably hastening the effects listed above.
Animals
• The noise can lead to difficulty with communication within animal species, which moreover effects mating and reproduction. The animals also have less coordination and difficult with navigation.
The goal is to find an effective inexpensive long term solution to
regress the effect noise pollution is having on our communities. The
following chart weighs out the pro’s and con’s of each proposed
“solution.”.
How to take action?
solution pro conVibration deducting tires
Helps alleviate noise caused by traffic the whirring noise tires make grinding on the pavement.
Technology still in production, overpriced, most people wouldn’t pay for this, people with specialty import cars have tires specially designed for their cars that wont be customed to the tires the reduce noise
Eco friendly barriers
Absorb impact, reduce traffic related noise and factory machinery noise outside of enclosed area, can be made with natural resources and indigenous plants accustomed to the climate
Could draw animals closer o roads because of dense shrubbery making a perfect ”home”. Maintenance to grow the plants and stimulate life once introduced into the ground.
Cement barriers
Drastic reduction of noise at a moderate price, low maintenance.
No impact absorbtion, import cement due to unnatural resource, cement cracks can crumble and need maintenance. Generally noiy maintenance because you need jackhammers and other intrusive equipment.
Awareness of noise pollution
Less invasive/ financially debilitating to the Govt.
Many people may not care, or believe in the effects of meteoker noise invasion in their life, A lot of people think its an issue that can be overlooked, that there are bigger things out there to deal with, only impacts people within buildings
Window panes/ insulation
Doubling the panes providing weather strips and putting in insulation that will reduce passage of noise in and out.
Unrealistically expensive, invasive, and hard to get compliance from everyone.
Noise suppressant
Calming, in office/home, easy and permanent
Expensive many homes and businesses, not everyone wants to listen to a waterfall or rain all day to cancel out noise that’s already their smothering it with another noise.
What are our best options?
Awareness
Plant Barriers
Educating The Community
Taking the time to
educate the public
• State the facts• Suggest Home solutions• Hosting Programs for easy to do noise reduction
Less noise
intrusion
• People will turn down stereos• Better outfit their homes to reduce transparency of noise between out and indoors
• Learn how calming sounds can approve overall being.
Indigenous Plant Barrier
Money Would have to be borrowed from the bank for funding
Small tree business benefits from buying, They’ll charge the government a rate of 5.95$ per tree if your get more than 100 trees.
The tree business benefits from sales, Hires more people.
The lawn maintenance crews have more plants to tend to, employment rises.
Lives are saved because of impact absorption of dense plants over that of cement walls.
Cleaner air because of photosynthesis Quieter neighborhoods and homes benefiting people
and animals physically and psychologically .
Increases value of homes within communities
Can suppress up to 9 decimals (that’s 80% of sound)
Plant Wall reasoning cont’d
Noise is an overlooked topic. Most people tend
to not see the negative impact it can have on a
community. Furthermore, I’d like to thank you for
taking into consideration my idea of reducing noise
pollution and methods of doing so.
Thank you!
