• Karakorum and Hindu Kush provide a continuous source of water for the Indus and its tributaries. These mountain ranges also provided important timber, animal products, and minerals, gold, silver, tin and semiprecious stones that were traded throughout the Indus Valley.

• Seated male sculpture

• Ribbon head/arm band

• Hair is combed• Upper lip is shaved

• Cloak is decorated w/ trefoil(circle) design that were once red.

Why is he called “priest king”?

• Holes beneath ears suggest necklace or ornament may have been used.

• Back of head may have held headdress.

“DANCING GIRL”

• Some consider her a slave?

• Why is she a dancing girl and the male sculpture a “priest-king”?

• Some have suggested her features look African?

• Could there have been contact between India and Africa 4500 years ago?

NON-ESSENTIAL ITEMS

• LUXURY GOODS• These items demonstrate that Mohenjo-Daro was wealthy.

• It suggests surplus food that allowed for specialization of labor.

• This collection of gold, jasper and agate ornaments includes objects found at both Mohenjo-daro and Harappa. At the top are fillets of hammered gold that would have been worn around the forehead.

• Swimming pool sized bath is believed to use for ritual bathing.

• Private dressing rooms and toilets surrounded the bath.
