Reflections on the
Cover Page
The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab
published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha
Pahatana’ in Yoga Varta's issue for the month of
October 2013 has been excellently translated into
English by Shri Nitin Tawde (YVN's Yoga Teacher of
39th batch of YTTC). The said English version of Shri
Shreedhar Parab's article in Marathi is being
published hereunder with profound thanks to Shri
Nitin Tawde (Mob. : 9819186655).
A glance at luminescent celestial fireball on the

favourite Shloka from my daily recitation – CX §~«÷ñdê$n_²& _Ü`mÝh§ _hoœa_²& gm`§H$mc§ gXm{dîUy_²&{XdmH$a Z_ñVo Z_ñVo Z_mo Z_…&& When Sun rises at
dawn, it’s beautiful and pleasant form emanating
through the early nascent rays appears like creator
Lord Brahma. The rays of the Sun gradually go on
brightening as the day progresses and then the bright scorching Sun of
noon resembles Lord Mahadeva, the destroyer. Later, the Sun goes on
lessening its burning heat and by evening, it descends and sets contently
and peacefully. The Sun at this time, reminds us of the Lord Vishnu
who feeds and nurtures all, animate and inanimate, with care. This
means, every day we witness the triad of the deities Brahma, Vishnu,
and Mahesh through the three changing phases of the Sun. As if the
Sun is making us aware of the ever changing experiences of creation,
sustenance and dissolution in life. The sun that spreads it’s enchanting
magic with reddish pink hue at the time of dawn reminds us of our

playful and beautiful childhood, full of innocence. Our energetic youth,
full of vigour, is reminded by the Sun at noontime which exhibits its
immensely powerful and occasionally scorching radiation. Whereas,
looking at the calmly and gradually fading Sun that goes on setting at
dusk, as if immersed in contentment of fulfilment of all duties, reminds
us of the enriched and matured elderly age. The three important stages
of life are symbolically portrayed through this continual transitional
phases of the Sun. Obviously to absorb such subtle experiences, what is
required is a sensitive and competent mind which is capable to
concentrate with awareness. It is nearly impossible to see or perceive
the formless and attributeless divine element with the help of five
sensory organs - eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin. However, we can
perceive the form and attribute of the Ishwar through the
Panchamahabhutas, viz. Aakash, Jala, Vayu, Agni and Prithvi and
certainly get the inspirational experiences through it.
The ‘Prakriti’ or the nature is created through the union and balance
of the Panchamahabhutas along with the help of pure conscious soul. In
this formation process, the visible and virtuous form of Agni Tatva is the
Sun. The plant and animal kingdom is dependent on the energy from
the Sun. In an aphorism in Rigveda, it is said that – gy`© AmË_mOJVñVñWwfü& – which means, the Sun is the master, not only of the
Earth but also of the entire Universe, support of the life system and
soul of animates and inanimate. The divine sun rays destroy the germs,
provides life energy to all living beings, and bestows healthy, content
life for all. The age old established concept of the plea to the Sun Amamo½`§^mñH$am{XÀN>oV²& means, that one should express his desire for the healthy
life from the Sun and acquire the same. Since the conception of the
earth, the Sun (fondly called as ‘Hiranyagarbha’, means the golden
womb), like a selfless Karma Yogi, has been most meticulously and
relentlessly nurturing, cleansing and protecting this earth without any
lethargy. While disbursing uninterruptedly the light, heat, warmth and
energy which is the most essential for life, with profound abundance,

the Sun is not making any differentiation between living and nonliving,
scholar and moron or a sage and a sinner. The divinity of the Sun is
evident by his equality towards all and nature of encompassing
everyone with a desire for the wellbeing of all.
The Sun can be considered as the best example of the glorious
personality. Those who suitably develop their total personality,
outwardly as well as inwardly, with inspiration from the Sun, the divine
glimmer of the Sun is then reflected in their thoughts, speech,
behaviour and functioning, with natural ease. Probably, the noble and
divine works for the service towards the society are accomplished only
by such people. How much ever such people may try to shy away from
publicity, the popularity and the recognition do come their way at the
right time, most naturally. Best example from our close context is our
respected Shri Nimbalkar Guruji, the Founder-Director and Chairman of
Yoga Vidya Niketan. Yogabhyas, that is the regular practice of Yoga and
simultaneously adopting the Natural Living, certainly helps in
developing such dynamic, exuberant, inspirational, humanitarian and
sunny personality because Yoga and Natural Living, definitely have the
capacity to comprehensively evolve all the facets of personality as well
as to make them competent and effective. Aryans worshipped fire as
God and initiated the Yajna system and performed numerous Yajnas to
appease the Fire God to fulfill their wishes. In Parasi community, the fire
is worshipped religiously which is kept kindled permanently in Agyaris.
In our daily chores too we need fire, directly or indirectly, every now
and then, whether it is morning tea, breakfast or lunch thereafter, may
be a campfire in winter or for boiling water for purification. We all know
that baking improves the fertility of the soil. The final ritual of funeral
by cremation is supposedly the most scientific procedure. That means it
can be said that the fire is accompanying us from birth to the last breath.
‘Form’ is the specific and chief attribute of Agni Tatva. Apart from
this it has got two additional attributes, ‘Touch’ from Vayu Tatva and
‘Sound’ from Aakash Tatva. This is how we can actually see the Agni in
Yoga Varta : February 2017 8
`moJdmVm©
the form of flames. Everything is illuminated by the light of the Sun. The
picturesque world has become visible only because of light of the Sun.
Light is the life of arts like drama, cinema, photography, sculpture,
drawing, etc. The beauty and pleasure in life is perceived through Agni
Tatva. Sound is heard when the flames flutter with wind. The searing
sensation of heat is felt while walking on hot sand under the scorching
Sun or if we accidentally touch the flames. However, the warmth of
sunlight is comfortable for those who are frozen by chilled weather.
Fire perfectly works to purify anything. Gold is subjected to fire for
purification. Water is purified and made devoid of any germs and
harmful substances when it is boiled. Therefore, the concept of ‘Agni
Pariksha’ (the test by fire) is established as a criterion for purity.
Water from the sea, lakes, rivers, stream gets evaporated by heat of
the Sun and rises up in the sky. Clouds are formed from this vapour and
are then flown away by the wind. It rains when these clouds condense
and the earth gets the water needed for life. The rivers and streams are
then flooded and it becomes green everywhere. The nature then
unfolds into youthfulness. All these marvellous and spectacular
sceneries are in fact various indirect manifestations of Agni Tatva. There
has been radical revolutionary changes in the life of a person when the
trick of igniting the fire was discovered. The art of cooking started at
that very moment. The seeds of the mighty industrial revolution, that
took place later on, were sowed at that time. Sun provides the world
with light and heat. We can differentiate time, into day and night
because of it. The time of work and the time of rest was decided
accordingly. Days, months and years came into existence. With that
came past, present and future in our life and history was created. In
short, the Agni Tatva we experience everyday in the form of Sun is a
very important Panchamahabhuta and undoubtedly it is immensely
significant in everyone's life.
Agni Tatva has more important role to play in today’s modern life.
Electricity is of vital importance for most of the activities and to
9 Yoga Varta : February 2017
`moJdmVm©
generate it, energy is required. Presently the industrial development is
taking place on a very large scale and this will continue in future too.
The demand for electricity will always be on the rise. Even for domestic
purpose, the demand for electricity is ever increasing. There are lots of
limitations on the conventional energy resources. In order to
permanently overcome the problems related to energy, it is inevitable
to look for the various alternate ways of producing energy which has to
be eco-friendly as well as nature-friendly. One of the best solutions
could be to generate ‘solar energy’ by storing ‘solar heat’ obtained
from the Sun. Considering the geographical location of our country as
compared to the European nations, we are far closer to the equator,
hence we are much luckier to have the abundant source of the solar
energy available continuously from the Sun. Therefore, it is felt that if
we pay attention to this solar energy source with topmost priority and
implement schemes related to it, sincerely and with proper planning,
then probably we will be able to get rid of all our issues related to
electricity generation forever, by the grace of the Sun God.
Agni means energy. There are total 13 types of Agni in our body.
The first and most important amongst them is the one situated in
umbilical area that helps in digestion of all types of food and converts
the food in a suitable form, useful for our body is known as ‘Jatharagni’
or ‘Pachak-Agni’ (Digestive Fire), and is also called as ‘Kayagni’. The
seven ‘Dhatus’ namely ‘Rasa’ (Lymph), ‘Rakta’ (Blood), ‘Mamsa
(Muscle), ‘Meda’ (Fat), ‘Asthi’ (Bones), ‘Majja’ (Bone marrow), and
‘Shukra’ (Semen in male and Ovum in female) are known as ‘Dhatvagni’
and the five Agni from the Panchamahabhutas i.e. Prithvi, Aap (Jala),
Teja (Agni), Vayu and Aakash are known as ‘Bhutagni’. This is how they
are counted as 13 Agnis. In the ‘Jatharagni’, there are traces of 7
‘Dhatvagni’ and 5 ‘Bhutagni’. That’s the reason the strength of these
‘Upa-Agni’ or secondary Agni is dependent on the ‘Jatharagni’. When
the ‘Jatharagni’ fades, then these twelve ‘Upa-Agni’ too fade. Since
strength of these ‘Upa-Agnis’ is dependent on ‘Jatharagni’, it is
Yoga Varta : February 2017 10
`moJdmVm©
considered as Supreme amongst the all Agnis. In a healthy body,
‘Jatharagni’, which helps in digestion of all solid and liquid food, is in a
right amount and in a balanced proportion. Ayurveda considers human
body based on assumptions as described in shloka – XmofYmVy_cm_wc§ {heara_²& This means the basic constituents in the human body are
‘Tridoshas’ i.e. ‘Vata’, ‘Pitta’ and ‘Kapha’; the ‘Sapta Dhatus’ i.e. ‘Rasa’,
‘Rakta’, ‘Mansa’, ‘Meda’, ‘Asthi’, ‘Majja’, ‘Shukra’ and three chief ‘Malas’
i.e. ‘Purisha’ (Faeces), ‘Mutra’ (Urine) and ‘Sweda’ (Sweat). All these
constituents are evolved from the Panchamahabhutas. These
constituents present in the body, help in sustenance and nourishment
of the body right from the birth till the last breath. Without this process,
human body can’t be alive even for a moment. This process takes place
in proper manner, only if the ‘Jatharagni’ remains in the natural state. If
the Digestive Fire is in its natural state then the processing on food
takes place in proper manner and the good quality of seven Dhatus, the
three Tridoshas and the Malas are produced. This results in proper
development of the body with increase in strength as well as
enthusiasm and enhanced glow on the skin. Instead, if this digestion of
food doesn’t take place properly, then it leads to creation of imperfect
digestive juice known as ‘Aam’ in body which is the root cause of all the
diseases. This leads in dousing of the digestive fire. Once the digestive
fire becomes weak, the fires related to Panchamahabhutas and the
seven Dhatus also become weak. This leads in causing diseases as the
nourishment of the Dhatus doesn’t take place in proper manner and the
balance amongst the Tridoshas, i.e. Vata, Pitta, Kapha is disturbed.
Therefore, it becomes utmost necessary to follow the rules regarding
‘intake, activities and rest’ (Aahar, Vihar and Vishranti) for the effective
and efficient functioning of ‘Jatharagni’, the digestive fire.
The blazing Sun on the cover page represents the Agni Tatva from
the Panchamahabhutas and this Agni Tatva can be used most
beneficially in Yoga as well as in Naturopathy and Natural Living. The
vitamin ‘D’ which is the most essential for our body can be obtained in
11 Yoga Varta : February 2017
`moJdmVm©
a natural way by just being in morning or evening sunlight or by taking
sun bath in the early morning for about half an hour or so. By adopting
this very simple practice, one can stay away from various diseases and
disorders arising out of the deficiency of Vitamin ‘D’. Various methods of
sunbath such as ‘Chlorophyll Bath’ or ‘Chromotherapy’ are most
successfully adopted in Naturopathy as therapeutic treatments.
‘Chlorophyll Bath’ is a sunbath taken in a lying down position, in which
the entire body, from below the neck and mouth is wrapped
systematically in big banana leaves. Another very useful and beneficial
procedure for healthy lifestyle is suggested in Ayurveda that is known as
‘Dhoom Chikitsa’ or ‘Dhoopan’ in which different types of ‘Dhoopa’ or
natural ingredients with specific medicinal values are burnt slowly to
produce fumes. Many of us have experienced, how the atmosphere in
the house becomes scented, pleasant and sacred instantly when we
burn the incense sticks or ‘Dhoopa’ made out of natural ingredients.
The concept of ‘Yajna’ which is considered the most important in Vedas
is also a very useful application of Agni Tatva, that purifies the
atmosphere. It is a Yogic concept that, there exists ‘Manipur Chakra’
near the umbilical area in our body. This is the place of ‘Jatharagni’
which represents the radiance of the Sun. ‘Soorya Namaskar’, a rhythmic
exercise resembling to Yoga proves to be extremely useful in keeping
the ‘Manipur Chakra’ and thereby the ‘Jatharagni’ that is located along
with it, in the balanced state. A daily regime of practising Soorya
Namaskar during morning and evening is one of the simpler, easier,
health-promoting and comprehensive exercise for all. The Asanas
exerting pressure, twists, stretches on stomach, Yogic Kriyas like
‘Kapalabhati’, ‘Agnisar’ as well as other Yogic practices like ‘Bhastrika’
Pranayama, ‘Tadagi Mudra’, ‘Uddiyana Bandha’ or ‘Nauli Chalan Kriya’
along with delivering their own benefits, maintain the ‘Jatharagni’ of
Sadhaka in a good condition. This leads to the better functioning of
important body functions like digestion, excretion, etc and as a result,
the health of Sadhaka remains unaffected and improves too.

Therefore, while reciting the Shloka before the meals – Ah§ d¡œmZamoyËdm àm{UZm§ Xoh_m{lV…& àmUmnmZg_m wº$… nMmå`Þ§ MVw{d©Y_²&& (^.JrVm -
15…14) we should specifically remember the Sun on the cover page,
that is Agni Tatva. Yogeshwar Shree Krishna has said, “Having become
VAISHVANARA (the digestive fire), I abide in the body of all living beings,
and, associated with ‘PRANA’ and ‘APANA’, digest the fourfold food, viz.
masticated, swallowed, licked and sucked”. By always remembering this
assurance given by Yogeshwar Shree Krishna, we all should practise
Yoga, Natural Living and Naturopathy with more affection and
dedication!

MAHAMANTRA THAT GAVE COURAGE
Some people believe in grace of God, Guru or Saint
to get a success in life. They never believe completely
in their own ability to face the problem or difficult
situation and achieve victory. They have inferiority
complex. They unconsciously or subconsciously believe
that they are inferior than others and cannot acquire
success in any tough task without the help from outside. They,
therefore, always seek some favour, grace or mantra (incantation) from
some yogi, fakir, saint, guru or some such sidha purush so as to face the
problems in life. In fact, they may have enought capacity, skill and power
to meet any such challenging situation successfully, but their minds are
weak and frustrated. They lack self-confidence. If such people get some
mental support from any well-known, successful person, then they can
perform exceedingly well and achieve amazing success in doing many
marvellous things.
Once there was a mighty king named Vijay Kumar. He had a big and
strong army, clever consultants and smart, intelligent ministers as also
shrewd and cunning ambassadors, bright, efficient workers and what
not. Nevertheless, whenever he had to deal with any problem or
difficult situation, he used to be quite nervous and become easily
wornout.
The said king was being harassed by the border states. Dacoits,
robbers, thieves, cheats were rampant in the capital. Rules and
regulations were not being enforced properly and strictly. Deception,
Yoga Varta : February 2017 14
`moJdmVm©
cheating, treachery, frauds, etc. were prevailent in the market and
business. The so-called mighty and powerful king was not able to control
and stop all this because of his mental weakness and inferiority
complex. He was not able to use his abilities and capacities fully due to
his feeble and weak mind.
Once, in ministers’ meeting he opened the topic of his nervous and
weak mind and asked his ministers to find out solution for the same.
One minister suggested the name of a great siddha yogi Baba
Mangaldas who was well-known for curing such cases by giving some
powerful and effective mantra as a remedy. The king liked the
suggestion. Accordingly, one day king went to Baba Mangaldas, touched
his feet and told him his problem, in detail. He narrated how it has
become difficult to perform his duties as king due to his weak and fragile
mind although he is well-off, strong, powerful and knowledgeable.
Baba heard the king attentively and carefully. He planned something
in his mind and said, ''O king! you are coming from a good family and
tradition. I am very happy to help you to solve your problem. I will give
you one folded chit on which a very effective and powerful Mahamantra
is written. But, do not try to see or read the Mahamantra. It will become
ineffective and lifeless the moment you try to see it. Keep this piece of
paper in your locket and whenever you have to undertake any difficult
task or whenever you face a problem, touch the locket and say –
‘O, Mahamantra, offer me a courage , daring and power to make this
operation successful.’ I am sure, you will be successful in every
undertaking."
After getting the Mahamantra from the Baba, the king became
prosperous, triumphant, victorious and successful everywhere. He
became very happy. He thus ruled for a long time, enjoyed all pleasures
and died with contenment and satisfaction of having fulfilled his duties
as a great king. The ministers, counsellors, courtiers and family
members of king were astonished to see king's marvellous and amazing
progress and success after he got Mahamantra from the Siddha Yogi
15 Yoga Varta : February 2017

Baba Mangaldas. Everybody was anxious to know what was that
Mahamantra. Therefore, they brought king's locket, took out the piece
of paper from it and unfolded the same with a view to read the
Mahamantra. However, all of them were shocked to see that the paper
was completely blank. There was no Mahamantra or even symbol of any
mantra written over that piece of paper.

3rd Pune InternationalYoga Festival-2017
E
Archana Chavan
(40th YTTC Student, Vashi. Mob. : 9987763075)
Mr and Mrs Vishwas and Vidula Shende under the guidance of
eminent Scientist Dr. Vijay Bhatkar in association with leading Yoga
Institutes in Maharashtra and rest of India take initiative to arrange
International Yoga Festival since last three years. This year’s 3rd Pune
International Yoga Festival was organized at Chinmaya Vibhooti, the
premises of Chinmay Mission at Kolvan in Pune district between 13th
Jan 2017 to 15th Jan 2017.
It was a golden opportunity for the YVN to be the part of this
International event and to know & learn more about the different
aspects of Yoga. Acknowledging this opportunity, a team of 14 students
under the guidance of 9 teachers of YVN i.e. a team of total
25 participants, took part in this event. It included Durgadas Sawant Sir,
Pradeep Gholkar Sir, Sahebdin Das Sir, Parminder Bhela madam, Sujatha
Vairat madam, Malbika Madam, Iyer Sir, Vijay Babar Sir, Menon Sir,
Aparna Chavan, Nishita Shah, Kanchan Kumari, Sanjoli Chole, Pramila
Pai, Sagrika Salvi, Pradya Patil, Dr. Richa Bhargava, Hemant Haveri, Dilesh
Telwane, Stalin, Sharad Wafare, Nitin Sonawane & Archana Chavan. The
team was already charged up, there was an excitement, enthusiasm &
zeal amongst the participations, their eagerness to learn more & more
was overwhelming.
The journey towards the Chinmaya Vibhooti started on 13th Jan
2017 at 09:00AM, two hours late from the scheduled time from YVN
Vashi. Chinmaya Vibhooti is situated near Pune, in Kolwan Village. It is
spread across 65 acres of the pictorial landscape surrounded by the

Sahyadri Mountains. This sacred place was founded by - Swami
Chinmayananda, who transformed and inspired lives, societies and
cultures all around the world. Now, it is managed by Chinmaya Mission.
On arrival at Chinmaya Vibhooti, the rooms were allotted to all the
participants, followed by the delicious food. The sessions had started
from 10:30 AM onwards. The First session was conducted by Sadhwi
Abha Sarswati. Second session started post lunch. Speakers from
different background of Yoga spoke on their respective area of expertise.
Dr. Samprasad Vinod gave the insight of breathing techniques; Swamy
Iyangar introduced the audience to the different type of Hasta Mudra,
including the Chikitsya Mudras.
In the evening time, tea and snacks were served. This was the time
of socializing and networking with other yoga lovers, who had come
from the various places of the India and of the world. In the mean time
we set the Stall of YVN where many YVN published books and Kriya
material were kept for sale.
The evening session had Music Meditation- Naad-Dhyan, where
Mr. Himanshu Nanda, explained the concept and techniques of Music as
a media for mediation. It was explained, how our mind responses to the
different type Aahat (External) & Anahat (internal) voices. After the
session, it was realized that the melody of sound not only entertains us
but soothes our mind and heart. From Naad, then the audiences were
taken to Bhagavat by very well known Swamy Govinda Dev Giri.
Bhagavat has its own ways of following Yoga. Swamy Govinda Dev Giri
enlightened us with the knowledge of Bhagavat & Karma Yoga narrated
in Bhagavat. It was the last session for the day; all the sessions were
very compact & well designed. Speakers had taken extra efforts to
deliver maximum knowledge in minimum time. These all sessions were
impactful and insightful; it turned mind inward and deeper. One thing
which I realized while listening to these sessions was, the purpose of
Yoga - ‘Yoga is inward journey i.e. From Koham to Soham, to connect
mind with Supreme Reality’. Be it Naad or Laya Yoga, were you try to

listen the Anahat sound that is internal sound to connect with Supreme
Reality, be it a Hasta mudras, where sadhak tries to be more intuitive
and prepares himself or herself to join with the Supreme entity. Or it is
Bagavat, where Lord Krisna and his advice lead us to the path of the
inward journey.
After these sessions, we had dinner. After dinner, everyone headed
for their room, except the 25 YVN participants. There were things to
discuss, activities to plan as next day YVN participants were going to
demonstrate the Shatkriyas. After the detailed discussions finalizing the
sequence of events and the demonstrators, everyone went back to their
respective rooms.
The morning started with the practice of Pranayam followed by
Suryanamaskar conducted by Sadhwi Abha Saraswti. There was some
change in the schedule, as Suryanamaskar practice was delayed, instead
of Kriya demonstration, the organizer decided to go ahead with Laughter
therapy session of Hasya Yogi Mr. Makarand Tilloo. This change was
accepted by YVN participants with positive mindset. Everyone enjoyed
the laughter session with Hasya Yogi Mr. Makarand Tilloo., It was bit
relaxing day as the schedule was little light that day.
The Inauguration event was scheduled for the day. It started by
10.10 am, when all the respected and recognized guests joined the
forum. Dr. Samprasad Vinod, Swamy Govinda Dev Giri, Sadhwi Abha
Saraswati, Dr. Ramchandra Dekhane, Air Marshal Bhushan, Dr. Hardikar,
Prataprao Pawar. The Inauguration ceremony started with Lightening of
Lamp by the guests. The Ganesh Vandana was performed in traditional
Indian dance form by a Student – Ms. Swati Kulkarni of Naad Bindu
academy. She also performed a graceful dance performance
representing the union of traditional Indian dance & Yoga. Then
Dr. Hardikar introduced the honorable guests to public.
A very spell bound and mesmerizing Yogasana series as sport
activity was performed by the students of Dnyanaprabodhini School,
Nigadi, Pune by group of 18 children under the guidance of International

Yoga champion Mr. Pangare. The flexibility and swiftness of the students
was admirable. These entertainment performances were followed by
very important event of the Festival, i.e. Life time achievement award.
Yoga is an ancient and precious heritage of India. Yoga is not a form of
physical or mental exercise but it is the way of life. It is the lamp which
is continuously giving us the light of knowledge and wisdom. There are
some karmyogis, who have devoted their life for not only to keep this
lamp bright but also have taken the responsibility of sharing and
spreading this knowledge and wisdom with common people, so that
they can be benefited. These people have taken tremendous efforts to
make Yoga accessible to all the commoners. Their work in the field of
Yoga was rewarded and recognized by presenting them with ‘Life Time
Achievement Award (Jeevan Gauvav Puraskar)’.
Our respected and beloved Guruji Shri Sadashiv Nimbalkarji was
awarded with the Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar for his relentless & incessant
efforts to make Yoga accessible, amenable and possible for everyone.
He dedicated his life to fulfill the motto ‘Yoga Vidya Gharoghari’& ‘Yoga
for Everyone’. Following the graded course and simplifying it further, he
made sure that Yoga will enter every house. His commendable work was
applauded and appreciated by the guests & attendees. Due to the health
concerns, Guruji could not attend the ceremony. Durgadas Sawant Sir &
Pradeep Gholkar Sir accepted this award on behalf of Guruji. The award
included a Puneri Pagadi, Shawl, a Memento and a Citation. It was a
proud moment for all the YVNs to be associated with such wise, reputed
and at the same time humble personality like our dearest Guruji. There
were other reverend personalities who were felicitated with the Life
Time Achievement Award, they were, O. P Tiwari of Kaivalyadham, Shri
Rambhao Khandawe of Swami Janardan Yogabhyasi Mandal, Nagpur
(received by Dr. Sane in his absence) & Iyangar Sir. The award ceremony
was concluded by the speech from the guests. They shared their Yoga
experiences and knowledge, with attendees. The event was sealed by
the vote of thanks by Dr. Anil Jayawant.

Chinmaya Mission. This exhibition was throwing the light on Swamy
Chinmayananda’s life & his Yoga journey. There were 15 paintings, a
statue of white marble and one statue of wax which were the major
attractions of the exhibition. The highly developed technology was used
to provide the information to the seekers, in the form of automatically
controlled headphones providing the information about the Paintings
and the event described in the Painting. Along with these attractions,
there were many books and artifacts displayed which were guides to
Yoga aspirants.
On Wednesday (18 Jan 2017), a small event was organized at YVN,
Vashi, to felicitate Nimbalkar Guruji and to celebrate his Life Time
Achievement Award with YVN family. On the same occasion, the 25
participants of Pune International Yoga Festival were acknowledged and
presented with their participation certificate at the hands of Guruji.
The 3rd Pune International Yoga Festival was an exposure to
different aspects & forms of Yoga. The highly conversant & enlighten
speakers shared their thoughts, experiences and their wisdom about
Laya Yoga, Karma Yoga and different techniques of Meditation with the
audiences. The best part of this was the Life Time Achievement Award
presented to Guruji and other Karma Yogis who had dedicated their life
to the spread of Yoga. It was lifetime memory & great knowledge
enhancing journey for the participants who witnessed this festival!

Nimbalkar Guruji's speech at PIYF(Pune International Yog Festival)
Dear Friends,
I am very thankful to the organizers of the Pune
International Yog Festival for felicitating me with 'Life Time
Achievement Award'. I humbly dedicate this award to all
my devoted colleagues and team members of Yoga Vidya
Niketan. I congratulate the organizers for arranging Pune
International Yog Festival consisting of speeches and
workshops under one roof by eminent speakers and experts
in the field of Yog. Unfortunately, due to old age, I am
unable to attend the festival personally. Kindly accept my
apologies. The award, however, will be accepted on my
behalf by two Senior Yoga Teachers of our institution who
will be participating in the PIYF along with many other
Yoga Teachers from Yoga Vidya Niketan. On this occasion,
I would like to share with you all about my life's journey, my
source of inspirations and few of my thoughts relating to
Yogshastra.
I was born and brought up in a small town of
Ahmednagar. In my childhood, I used to listen the stories of
great Yogis like Gorakshanath, Kanifnath, Matsendranath,
Nivruttinath, Dnyaneshwar, etc. As a child, I had developed
a dream to become Yogi like them : achieving supernatural
powers!
Later on, I came across Swami Kuvalayanandji. He was
a Jagannath Shankar Sheth Scholar in Sanskrit. He was a
research scientist in Yogshastra. He had command over
many languages. He taught Yogabhyas to many great
personalities and leaders of that era like Motilal Nehru,

Mahatma Gandhi, Madan Mohan Malaviya, etc. Because of
Swami Kuvalayanandji, I was attracted towards Yoga-
shastra. He was an excellent coach. He inspired me to be a
passionate devotee of Yogshastra. Under his guidance, I
started learning Yogshastra about 60 years back. Since then,
learning, practising and teaching Yogshashtra has become
my mission and way of life.
Swamiji always used to elaborately explain to us the
guiding principle which was taught to him by his Guru
Paramhans Madhavdasji Maharaj. The said principle was
based on the following verse from Hathapradipika –
AeofVmnVámZm§ g_ml`_R>mo hR>…&Aeof`moJ`wŠVmZm_mYmaH$_R>mo hR>…&& (H.P.I.10)
This means Hatha is a monastery for those who are
afflicted by unlimited suffering; and for those who are
engaged in the practice of all kinds of Yog, Hathayog is the
supporting tortoise. In short, Yogabhyas is not only for the
Yogis or spiritual aspirants, but also for common people. In
keeping with this guiding principle, Swamiji took following
three initiatives. He established –
1. Hospitals for teaching and practising simple Yogic
Kriyas, easy Asanas, Bandhas, Mudras, Diets, Yama -
Niyamas for treating their problems and sufferings.
2. Pathashalas with scientific syllabus for training and
developing many Yog Teachers.
3. Ashramas for those interested in purusing Spiritual Yog.
I continued these initiatives and efforts by doing
following activities through Yoga Vidya Niketan which I
established in year 1947 with the help and support received
from few close associates and devoted colleagues.
1. For common people, we provide knowledge of Yog, Yog
Therapy, Naturopathy & Natural Living.
31 Yoga Varta : February 2017
`moJdmVm©
2. We conduct planned and graded Yog Courses for
aspiring Yoga Teachers along with Ashtangyog for
those interested in preserving their total health and
developing their personality.
3. Guiding and advising those who are interested in
spiritual yogic practices like Dharana, Dhyan and
Samadhi.
We have been doing these activities since past 43 years
and I personally since nearly 60 years. The response for Yog
from various strata of societies world-over is quite over-
whelming, positive, promising and encouraging.
I once again thank you all and wish best of luck for this
Yog Festival!

Letter to Mrs. Kunda Patil...
E
Mrs. Neema Goregaoker
(Mobile : 8879010987)
My dear Kunda Atya.
You passed away very peacefully, without saying Good Bye to me
and also without putting Tikka on my forehead, a deep vacuum has been
created in my life. You were not my biological mother but the relation
between you and me was of a mother - daughter. You always used to
call me 'Pori' (daughter). Nobody can take your place in my life.
You were a strong pole of support for we 3 sisters and a brother
from our childhood days. You helped us at various stages of our lives.
When you got married, I was jealous & angry with your husband — Mr.
Ramakant Patil as he had taken away my 'Kunda Atya' from our
grandfather's house. After marriage, you went to London / Canada
where you gave strong support to your husband, raised your children
Mandar & Manisha with great care & love.
Years passed by and one fine day you read an advertisement in the
news paper about YTTC conducted by Yoga Vidya Niketan. You asked
me, "Neema, should we both join the Course? Think about it & let me
know." After 8 days, you again called me and said, "I have given you
enough time to think. I enrolled our names and have paid fees for both
of us. Now You can not back out" and thus started the Yoga Yatra. We
both enjoyed the Course. We used to study, practise the asanas with
each other’s help. We successfully completed the YTTC & joined YVN as
yoga teachers. I could not continue after 1 year because of my husband’s
transferrable job. Kunda Atya, you continued as a Yoga Teacher at YVN
for almost 27-28 years without taking a break. Patanjali Yoga Sutra —
Satudirghakal Nairantaryum Satkar Sevito Dhrudhabhumi — is very

true in your case. You introduced many people to Yoga Varta, helped
them to become members of Yoga Varta . You always used to make sure
that they all get Yoga Varta regularly. You helped many people who had
health problems, you taught them how to do Asanas, Pranayama. You
never expected money from them, you used to say, "Let me share
whatever knowledge I have about Yoga." Your husband & Nimbalkar sir
were two 'Gods' in your life. You used to give due respect to both of
them and also care for them. You were very close to Nimbalkar Madam
also. She always used to praise you for your dedication to yoga. Then
came the news of you being honored with 'Yoga Jeevan Gaurav
Puraskar' by YVN. Your felicitation ceremony was a great function at
which your eyes were full of tears of joy and contentment. You said to
me , "I never thought that I will be honored with this great Award."
You will always be remembered as a true Yoga-lover and a
wonderful person. You will always be in my mind, thoughts, I can never
ever forget you. Do not worry about 'Nana'. We will take care of him.
May your soul rest in peace!
