Ms Millner’s position will be taken by Mr Chris Kay, a music teacher from Sydney. Mr Kay was selected by a panel for this position and will be employed for the rest of the year. Mrs Munro will be teaching Primary release from face to face classes (RFF) every Wednesday. She is replacing Mrs Karen Honeyman who is now teaching 2 Topaz. STEWART HOUSE On May 13 th, Taylor Brouff and I left Cudal at 8:30am to travel to Curl Curl Beach, North Sydney. We were going to stay, for the next two weeks at Stewart House. We caught a Country Link Bus from Cudal to Lithgow, then a train from Lithgow to Central Station in Sydney. On arrival at the station, we boarded the Stewart House bus and left the station to go to Stewart House. On our arrival we were confronted with a perfect view of the ocean. We were then separated into groups , boys and girls depending on our age and maturity. In our dormitories we had our supervisor who would take care of us after school until school next morning. It did take a few days to settle into our dorms. While we were there we still attended school but spent our time doing various activities. We went out on Outday Excursions where we went to the: Beach (including Palm Beach where Home and Away casts their show), Sydney Taronga Zoo, A Wax Museum, Wildlife Museum, Sydney Aquarium and IMAX Cinema (the biggest cinema screen in the southern hemisphere). We also walked across and back over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, caught a ferry from Manly to Sydney Central, and did many other activities at night in the dorms. On May 23 rd, we woke up at 5:30am, and went to the station to catch the train back to Orange, departing at 6:30am. It was a very long trip home. We then arrived back in Cudal at 12:40pm. Overall, it was a great experience. It was great fun and Taylor and I would recommend any child from years 5-10 to go. You make lots of new friends, and get to go on a holiday that you will never forget! Taylor and I would like to thank Mrs Glasson for organizing this trip for us. HSC STANDARD ENGLISH STUDY DAY AT DUBBO On Thursday 6th June, we departed school at 7am, all on board, some with pillows and blankets. We made good time and arrived in Dubbo with time to spare before registration, so we took advantage of Mr Keen’s local knowledge and visited “the best coffee shop in town”. We had some ‘pretty good’ muffins, banana bread and coffee. Our stomachs full, we were now ready to brave Dubbo RSL and 6 lectures on English, with a few other subjects thrown in. We attended lectures on all our English modules and gleaned many helpful exam hints. The main one being we have to continue practising our writing skills even through the holidays. Some of us attended CAFS, Visual Arts, Hospitality and General Maths lectures but English really was the order of the day. We were even lucky enough to have a lecture given by the author of our prescribed Belonging texts, the renowned poet Peter Skrzynecki. He was both charming and humorous. We boarded the bus at 3.30pm for our return journey. Our heads full of extra information and the over whelming knowledge that we only have 16 weeks left until our final exam. So, we would like to thank Ms Brown for all her excellent organisational skills and Mr Keen for his safe driving. XSEL CAMP On the 5th of June, Sophie Weekes, Tarryn Miles and I travelled to Dubbo for the second Xsel residential camp of 2013. This is the second time in which we have had the entire Xsel cohort present at our residential camp, with 150 students and 30 teachers. We prepared ourselves for an exciting time and we were eager to see what was to come. We had our allocated times for our subjects: English, Maths and Science, over the two days we were there, we did exams and some very interesting things. From watching Shakespeare to extracting DNA from strawberries to playing a Maths version of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’, the activities we did were quite diverse and helped us in our current studies. We also got to meet up with our teachers and our friends from other schools which we hadn’t seen since last term. This residential was also the time to have our annual ‘Xsel Cup’. In which the students are split into teams to compete for the ‘Cup’, against the teacher team. This year we had an Olympic theme, with numerous competitions designed for us to try and earn points. This was great fun and it was a good way for some of the younger students to mix with the older ones in their teams. Fortunately, the students did win the Xsel Cup again this year. Overall, the three of us had a great time and are eagerly awaiting the next residential camp for another great experience. Lachlan Campbell – Yr 10

There were three different ensembles that performed – concert band, string ensemble and rock band. There was also a familiar face in the crowd, Mr Nathan Rice, who is now teaching at St Ives High. The highlight of the day was some of the primary students being able to conduct the concert band, as well as the combined band rehearsal we had in the afternoon. It was fantastic to have so many musicians in our Senior Band! Ms Deanne Millner Band Co-ordinator

Western Cross Country Last Wednesday five students travelled to Wellington to compete in the Western Cross Country Trials. They were Jesyca Pearson, Blake Webb, Alyssa Watts, Grace Weekes and Sarah Rapley. The weather conditions were wet, muddy and miserable with some runners getting bogged on some occasions!!! All runners put in a fantastic effort considering the treacherous conditions. Two runners did extremely well with Grace Weekes being placed 10th and Jesyca Pearson being placed 2nd,yes 2nd!! Jesyca has now gained a place to compete at the State Cross Country Trials at Eastern Creek in July. Well done to all of our students who competed and Good Luck Jesyca at State!

It has been very satisfying to see so many empty stands after library lessons, particularly over the past few weeks. There are some very excited students who have cherished the privilege of taking home a brand new book to share with their families. They are very proud when they return them unblemished and can’t wait to tell others about the story or information contained in the books. A Teacher Librarian’s dream! The students are also enjoying the boxes which have been set up to house many of the series found in the collection. Our younger students are prolifically borrowing from them and can’t wait to borrow the next instalment in the series. By doing this we have made the books more accessible to students who aren’t confident enough to choose books from the shelves. Scholastic Book Club orders have been placed and should arrive at the end of this week or early in week 9. Orders will be issued to students before the holidays. If students do not receive their orders please contact library staff. Congratulations to Logan Doolan (Kinder Sapphire) and Annika Doolan (2/3 Garnet) for completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge this week. Well done to these students for their commitment to reading and their regular borrowing during the semester to achieve their goal. Have a great week, Mrs Hall

My family and I are doing fundraising on behalf

of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. We are

aiming to raise as much money as we possibly

can for this Foundation.

Both my grandfathers have had Prostate Cancer.

One has had the disease for over 10 years and

suffers from the side effects of treatment,

whereas my other grandfather passed away

almost 2 years ago (at the age of only 69)

because of the disease. We are completing the

fundraising in his memory, and wish to raise

awareness.

The death of my grandfather was very shocking not only to me, but to all my family. One in nine

men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, and 3300 men will lose their lives annually

whilst battling it. Only 52% of men are aware of prostate cancer, and their potential development of

the disease. I can only hope that through this fundraising, we can raise enough money to help the

Foundation, as well as raise awareness. It is my goal to prevent families from experiencing the pain

we dealt with when my grandfather died. I believe it is with your help that I can achieve this.

We are holding three separate fundraising events:

A Golf Day and raffle on Saturday 20th July.

A Trivia Night on Saturday 10th August

Our main event on Sunday 22nd September (Prostate Cancer Awareness Week) will be a Lawn

Bowls Day accompanied by a barbeque, an auction, raffles and the head shave of four of my

family members (excluding my sister who is having her hair streaked blue for the event).

This is something I am very passionate about. I have wanted to

do something like this for a long time.

Please come along to support any of these events, this would be

greatly appreciated. They are an opportunity for a great family

day out.

Any donations can be made to https://give.everydayhero.com/au/Raise-To-Save, or

First Choice Credit Union. B.S.B. 802-318, and the Account Number is 11485.
