Hello Momentum Readers! July is a great month for jubilation! As Americans, we kick off this month with pride and

traditions focused around hotdogs, fireworks and family, as "We the People" celebrate the birth of our Great Nation. I will tell you that with the upcoming Fourth of July festivities just right around the corner, it is during this time of year that I realize that I'm not just proud to be an American, but an American living here in Rome and Floyd County. Why? Well, I believe that our community's Fourth of July festivities highlight and echo the great heart of camaraderie and fellowship we as Romans and Floyd Countians enjoy that you can't find anywhere else. If you haven't had the chance to experience a July 4th in Rome and Floyd County, I urge you to join in the fun at Ridge Ferry Park before moving to Broad Street for the annual downtown Block Party. It's an experience not forgotten, as our neighbors and friends gather together and play in the downtown streets, listen to excellent live music and celebrate our beautiful downtown areas. After dark, stay

for the huge fireworks display, hosted by Harbin Clinic, that can be seen over the horizon of our historic buildings. It's majestically beautiful!

On a secondary note: While Rome and Floyd County celebrate the birth of our nation, the Chamber also has plenty of reasons to rejoice during July! For starters, if you run a business here in Rome and Floyd County, the chances are that you have been greeted in recent weeks by one of our amazing Chamber volunteers who want to further the mission of the Chamber through recruitment! During the months of May and June, our Chamber was in the midst of the 2016 "Together We Row" Membership Campaign, and now that campaign is rolling to a stop. I am proud to say that during the campaign, we welcomed more than 60 new members to the Chamber. To see photos from this year's 2016 Membership Campaign Celebration and to find out who this year's top performers were, please visit page 6.

In addition to our membership celebration, July is the month The Chamber hosts the annual Mid-Year Celebration, a time when celebrate our local "Excellence in Education." Each year, our Chamber gathers students from our local schools and their adult mentors to share their personal success stories. It's always a heartwarming moment to see what a difference our residents are making in the lives of our local youth.

To keep all of this jubilous July energy going, Momentum Magazine wanted to feature fresh and new happenings in Rome and Floyd County. For starters, this month Momentum features one of Rome and Floyd County's newest Chamber businesses centered on enjoying Rome's rivers: River Ratz Tubing & Kayaking. To learn more about Rick Dempsey and his business, please read ahead to page 8. Momentum Magazine is also highlighting another local business that is framing up nicely in the Cotton Block in downtown Rome, Farrell's Frame & Design. On page 7, you'll get the chance to meet Amanda Farrell and learn how she's taken her passion for art and creation to a new level: entrepreneurism.

Additionally, Momentum celebrates the grand opening of two new major developments in Rome and Floyd County! First, check out the photos from the recent grand opening/ribbon cutting of Tole, Temple & Wright, Inc's new model home in The Battle Farm on Page 5 before reading about the grand opening of the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, the largest hardcourt facility in the Nation, on Pages 10 & 11.

As always, I would like to extend an invitation for you to visit the Chamber of Commerce located at 1 Riverside Parkway and meet the Chamber staff for a firsthand look at where Rome and Floyd County's economic growth buds. At the Chamber, you will find an incredible group who are committed to the future of Rome and Floyd County. Feel free to drop by anytime to say 'Hello' and to find out about many of our wonderful and upcoming business events.

Happy Reading!

Toles, Temple & Wright, Inc.'s Model Home is Customized for Floyd

When it comes to building a dream house for your family, sometimes see-ing your options in person can make the process of creating a home from scratch a little easier.

Bill Temple, of Toles, Temple, & Wright, Inc. said that’s exactly the con-cept Toles, Temple, & Wright & Dan Childs, of KC Homes, had in mind when designing the new, fully-furnished model home the local real estate firm unveiled recently during a Chamber ribbon cutting and grand opening on June 22nd.

"We are thrilled to have Floyd Coun-ty's only fully-finished and staged, new construction model home," said Mr. Temple. "This is something the local real estate market has needed for quite some time and we feel fortunate to be able offer this option to buyers in our area."

The 4/5-bedroom, 4-full-bath house at 1 Trotter Lane is located in The Battle Farm subdivision off Old Summerville Road in Armuchee and showcases many upgrades, features and a modern floor-plan that home buyers might be looking for, said Mr. Temple.

Upon entry, guests are greeted by a lavish dining area to the left of the entry way and a modern home office with guest bathroom to the right. The open floor plan flows into a large great room with cathe-dral ceilings attached to the state-of-the-art kitchen. The floor plan is split to in-clude two spacious bedrooms just off the living room and a master bedroom with large master bath suite featuring a walk-in closet on the opposite end of the house.

The home also features the add-on of a finished upstairs bedroom, and the garage has been converted into a show-room where buyers can see renderings of subdivision lots and many floor plans to choose from as well as carpet, tile, roof-ing, paint and cabinetry samples.

The model house also includes ‘a game-day porch,” where the back porch is completely covered and includes a tele-vision box for sports enthusiasts.

Framing Up Downtown: Farrell's Frame & DesignAmanda Farrell, Owner of Farrell's Frame & Design

Behind two deep teal columns, pale turquoise façade, and bold wood doors of 116 at Broad Street, a new business has been framing up nicely in the heart of downtown Rome.

Farrell’s Frame & Design opened its doors just five short months ago, and Owner Amanda Farrell said that as her first business endeavor, Far-rell’s Frame & Design has been quickly gaining recognition with local artists, home decorators, and residents.

“I’ve been constantly busy lately,” laughed Ms. Farrell, as she moved through the gallery of molding, matting and samples. “I think sometimes it takes a minute to get the word out, but when it does! Wow! The re-sponse so far has been really overwhelming. We've had people constantly coming in and meeting with me, and then telling all their friends. We're very excited to be here."

Ms. Farrell, with 12 years of experience, is no stranger to the framing industry. Her background, she said, consists of both hands-on experience in smaller retailers, as well as work at corporate venues.

“I’ve been framing since I was fresh out of high school,” she added. “I started out working in mom-and-pop shops, where I got most of my training and experience with the craft.”

Ms. Farrell said she then transitioned into the corporate world of frame working before her attention was drawn to a need for a framing shop in Rome.

"I always wanted to start my own shop," she added. "I was working with some reputable framing representatives who brought it to my atten-tion that Rome needed a place like this."

As fate would have it, Ms. Farrell's husband, Chris Farrell — who is in the United States Air Force — took a special assignment here in Rome as a recruiter. "Since he was assigned to Rome, we thought this would be the perfect time. Everything kind of fell into place. We hired a wonderful real estate agent, Mr. Craig McDaniel, of Toles, Temple & Wright, and

he showed us this building. The floorplan and layout was just perfect. I had a conceptual idea for my store to have a gallery in the front and workshop space in the back, and this space provided that."

Farrell's Frame & Design is unique in the framing business in that the store not only offers same-day or next-day custom framing, but also features a plethora of other art and design services, said Ms. Farrell.

"We have a wide variety of molding we keep in stock, so often you can come in, pick from our selection, and have a frame ready that day," said Ms. Farrell. "In addition to framing, we offer giclee printing, which is a fine art reproduction print, and we have several different art papers, photography paper, water color paper and custom canvases to choose from. We have a 44-inch printer so there is no project too big or too small for us."

Along with prints and frames, Farrell Frame & Design also special-izes in art preservation and photo restoration.

"Recently, we've been working with a couple who's storage unit flooded and ruined wedding photos, family photos, etc.," Ms. Farrell said. "It's wonderful that we are able to do that for them. Those are their memories, and we want to take great care of them."

Farrell's Frame & Design can also fix frames that are broken, said Ms. Farrell. "We have all the tools in house to rejoin frames, cut new glass, etc.," she added. "Also, we love projects, so if you have some-thing in mind and show us, we'd love to work with you on it!"

Ms. Farrell added that one of the best things about "Shopping Rome" at her store is that you're guarenteed to leave happy.

"Quality control is our top priority," she said. "Since this is my store, my baby, I want to make sure that everyone who walks through this door is going to feel welcomed, and that the art you bring is treated like our own."

Celebrating 10 Years of Rollin’ on the River.YOUR CITY. OUR CITY. RIVER CITY.

Local resident Rick Dempsey is a self-proclaimed “River Rat,” —a person, he explained, who likes to spend most of his or her free time exploring

local waterways and enjoying the wildlife. “You can almost always find me out on the water,” he

said with a chuckle. “It’s probably one of the most relax-ing, yet adventurous hobbies to have. Every time, you get out on the river, you learn something new about yourself or what is around you at the moment.”

As a retired Georgia Department of Natural Resources law enforcement ranger, Mr. Dempsey would know.

For more than 3 decades, Mr. Dempsey dedicated his life to protecting and helping conserve Georgia’s natural resources — like Rome’s Etowah, Coosa and Oostanaula rivers. It was during his career as a ranger that he first fell in love with the local water systems in Rome and Floyd County.

“I used to travel all over Northwest Georgia for my work, and I believe Rome has some of the best rivers around,” said Mr. Dempsey. “The Etowah, Coosa and Oostanaula have unique features and wildlife that can’t be found anywhere else, and I think now is a great time for us to really start utilizing them for recreation and leisure to their fullest potential. People just don’t realize how beauti-ful it is out there until they go.”

That is why Mr. Dempsey decided to open River Ratz Tubing & Kayak, located at 105 Callahan Street, in May. River Ratz Tubing & Kayak, he said, offers inner tube and kayak rentals, as well as shuttling services, at great, afford-able prices to those looking for R&R on Rome’s rivers during the warmer weather months.

Currently, River Ratz Tubing & Kayak offers 150 in-ner tubes and 30 kayaks for rent, primarily on the week-ends. During the months of July, August and mid-Septem-ber, River Ratz will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and will take bookings for groups of 15 or more during the week.

“Our fees include a free shuttle ride from our business to the river at check in and a free shuttle back from the exit location,” said Mr. Dempsey. “Right now, we’ve started offering floats down the Etowah from Dixon Landing in Grizzard Park to Heritage Park downtown. That’s about six miles and approximately a two-hour trip by kayak or three-to-four-hour trip on a tube. What’s great about this float is that you come straight through the heart of Rome, but you’d never know it!”

Mr. Dempsey said that he hopes to add more river routes in the future.

"We're hoping to expand our trips to include the Oostanaula and Coosa," he said. "I'm sure that will come with time."
