Prosdocimo, a poet, is searching for a plot for a

comic opera. In Naples he meets a young Turkish

girl who has fled from a jealous lover, Selim. A Turk

arrives on the next boat; the very Selim. Before

seeing Zaida, he starts flirting with Fiorilla, a beauty

married to an elderly man, Don Geronio and with a

young pfofessional galant Don Narciso. A series of

complications develop: the two ladies are jealous,

Selim offers to buy Fiorilla from a shocked Don

Geronio and at a masked ball all are lost and

confused. In the end, Selim and Zaida reconcile and

return to Turkey, Fiorilla swears her renewed love to

Don Geronio (for the moment) and Prosdocimo has

his plot!
