interrupted by the arrival of Falstaff, quarreling with
Prince Hal and Poins about their attempts at highway
robbery. News comes that civil war has begun. The
King’s captains are searching for Falstaff and, as the
men are preparing to go to war, Mistress Quickly,
the inn keeper, sends Doll Tearsheet, Falstaff’s
mistress, for a final meeting with him.

Louis leaves his wife Alison at home. She is secretly
hoping to entertain Father Philippe. A hungry
wandering scholar, Pierre, arrives hoping for food,
but when Louis is unexpectedly heard returning,
Alison’s has to quickly hide her spread and Father
Philippe makes himself scarce, having turned Pierre
away. Pierre returns in the company of Louis and, in
the hope of getting something to eat, Pierre lets slip
that he knows there is some pork in the house which
is news to Louis. All Alison can think of is to accuse
Pierre of making the pork appear by magic. Louis
finds Father Philippe and drives him out of the house
before following Alison to the attic for the
entertainment for which Father Philippe was hoping,
leaving Pierre eating his pork.
