The arrest warrants were executed in North Platte, McCook, Kear- ney, Lincoln, and Culbertson, Nebraska, as well as in northwestern Kan- sas. Additionally, two federal warrants and two state warrants were served on subjects already in state custody. Through collaboration with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, we were able to target and dismantle this criminal organization in Western Ne- braska”, stated FBI Omaha Special Agent in charge Eugene Kowel. “Drug-related crimes strangle communities in rural Nebraska. The CODE task force will continue to work to stop the violence, get drugs and weapons off the streets, and seek justice for those living in the communities they serve.” The arrests and warrants executed on this date were the result of multi-agency collaboration, consisting of Ne- braska State Patrol, North Platte Police Department, McCook Police Department, Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur County Kan- sas Sheriff’s Office, Sherman County Kansas Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Postal Inspection Services, the Department of Homeland Security, and FBI Omaha and Kansas City Divisions. TRAFFIC DEATHS ARE DOWN Traffic deaths on roads and highways in Nebraska are down in 2021 when compared with previous years especially fatalities involving mo- torcyclists. The Omaha World-Herald reports that the state has re- corded 126 traffic fatalities as of Friday, down from 154 at the same time in 2020. Eight motorcyclists have died this year, compared to 23 at the same time last year. The average number of motorcycle fatali- ties through Aug. 27 during the years 2016 to 2020 was 20. Bill Kovarik, administrator for the Nebraska Department of Transporta- tion’s Highway Safety Office, says more motorcyclists are taking train- ing classes, and he believes those classes are paying off. NEW NSP STATE HEADQUARTERS FACILITY The Nebraska State Patrol has cut the ribbon on a new Lincoln head- quarters, completing a consolidation process that was decades in the making. “Today marks the culmination of a major project that will pro- vide great benefits to our NSP teammates and the citizens of Ne- braska,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “For decades, our Lincoln-based teammates have been scattered throughout the city at several offices. This project brings most of those teammates under one roof, which has already improved our operation in many ways.” The new NSP state headquarters facility is located at 4600 Innovation Drive in Lincoln. The facility hosts several divisions of NSP’s Lincoln-based operations, including the Criminal Iden- tification Division, Headquarters Troop Area, Carrier Enforcement Divi- sion, Nebraska Information Analysis Center, Special Operations Divi- sion, State Headquarters, and Eastern Communications, which now dis- patches for the eastern half of the state from a state-of-the-art commu- nications center. The McCook Bison cross country teams finished second and

fourth at the North Platte Invite on Saturday. North Platte swept

the team titles. The Lady Bison finished second with three run-

ners in the top ten. Samantha Rodewald was fourth overall. The

Bison boys were lead by Josiah Wilkinson, finishing 13th overall.

The Lady Bison softball team won two games at the Holdrege

Invite on Saturday, finishing fifth overall. The MHS girls picked

up wins over Lexington and Minden. The Bison boys tennis team

won their own invite on Saturday at the Bison and Elks Tennis

Courts. The Bison split their duals vs. Kearney and Kearney

Catholic on Friday. The Bison football team opened their fall

season with a 27-7 win over Hastings on Friday night. The Bison

will travel to Crete this Friday night.

Nebraska rallied from a 21-point deficit late in the third quarter

to pull within a touchdown, and had the ball with a chance to tie

in the game's final minute, but Illinois held on for a 30-22 sea-

son-opening victory on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers pro-

duced more yards of total offense (392-326) than the Fighting

Illini, but a pair of pivotal second-quarter plays contributed to

the outcome. A key roughing the passer penalty that wiped off a

Nebraska defensive interception, and a Nebraska fumble late in

the second quarter that led to a 41-yard scoop and score touch-

down provided the momentum Illinois used to build a 30-9 lead

late in the third quarter. Nebraska returns to Lincoln for its home

opener next Saturday when the Huskers play host to Fordham.

Kick-off between the Big Red and the Rams is set for 11 a.m.

with live television coverage provided by the Big Ten Network.
