Monday, March 25, 13
PHASE 1: CLIENT DISCOVERYA great logo is an expression of the company values, culture and people. For our purposes it should be a
direct reflection of you what you represent.

PHASE II: INDUSTRY DISCOVERY
Who is the audience? Knowing the audience will give you some clues as to where you need to take the
logo, style wise. (main stream, teenagers, gamers etc.)

PHASE III: APPLICATION DISCOVERY
How and where will the logo be used most of the time?

PHASE IV: LOTS AND LOT AND LOTS OF SKETCHINGThe only way to separate the good from the bad is

PHASE V: DRAFTINGAfter you have narrowed it down to the best 3 ideas begin to create a few initial drafts. The best ideas are not necessarily the nicest looking or the safest. You
want your logo to stand out from the crowd! At first just stick to black and white to focus on the shape and
flow of the designs.

PHASE VI: REFINEMENTThis is can be the longest part of the process due to
multiple back and forth revisions between you and the client. Luckily you are the client so you only have to deal with the wrath of NELSON and MANDERS

THE MOOD BOARD• Mood boards (sometimes called inspiration boards) are used in a variety of
disciplines.
• compilation of inspirational elements used by designers to flesh out ideas at the beginning of a design project.
• A mood board is extremely useful for establishing the aesthetic feel of a web site.
• Things that can be explored in the mood board include photography style, color palettes, typography, patterns, and the overall look and feel of the site. Soft or hard? Grungy or clean? Dark or light? A rough collage of colors, textures and pictures is all it takes to evoke a specific style or feeling.
