Monday Memo for March 29, 2021 Monday Memo March 29, 2021 Students have their normal schedule Monday - Wednesday and spring break begins on Thursday. There will be no school April 1 - 5 and school resumes on Tuesday, April 6. Have a wonderful break! GIFTS FROM THE PTA Thank you to all of the families that have joined the PTA and for your generous donations. We use the donations to fund certain projects. Last week, a new water filling station was installed as a result of PTA fundraising. This station replaces one of our water fountains in the main hall and allows for students to refill water bottles during the day, both eliminating waste from disposable bottles (to fulfill our green school initiatives) and allowing the children access to more water throughout the day (to support our school mission as a Wellness School of Distinction). It is also a timely purchase as it allows students a safer, contact-less way to get a drink. A big thank you to our PTA presidents, Joanna Weinreich and Nina McCarthy for executing this project and putting together goodie bags for our kids. Inside each bag was a Jones water bottle and a Jones mask lanyard. They were distributed to kids at school last week.

GIFTS FROM THE PTA

Thank you to all of the families that have joined the PTA and for your generous donations. We use the donations to

fund certain projects. Last week, a new water filling station was installed as a result of PTA fundraising. This station

replaces one of our water fountains in the main hall and allows for students to refill water bottles during the day,

both eliminating waste from disposable bottles (to fulfill our green school initiatives) and allowing the children access

to more water throughout the day (to support our school mission as a Wellness School of Distinction). It is also a

timely purchase as it allows students a safer, contact-less way to get a drink.

A big thank you to our PTA presidents, Joanna Weinreich and Nina McCarthy for executing this project and putting

together goodie bags for our kids. Inside each bag was a Jones water bottle and a Jones mask lanyard. They were

distributed to kids at school last week.

If your student(s) is/are all-virtual, we want them to receive their goodie bag, too! Please contact us with

your name and address by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30th and we will deliver the bag(s) to your home on

Wednesday, March 31st.

We hope all students enjoy their new Jones swag!

ORDER YOUR JONES 2020-2021 YEARBOOK THROUGH LIFETOUCH

Order the Jones 2020-2021 Yearbook today! This year, yearbook orders are processed directly through Lifetouch

and will be delivered to your home address in late summer for one flat cost of $20.

***Gold Level PTA Members ($250 and above) - your membership level entitles you to ONE complimentary

yearbook. If you order yearbooks with your pictures, remember this so you don't order more than you

need. You do not need to order your complimentary one.*** If you are unsure of your PTA Membership level,

check your ParentSquare profile page under payments. This is only viewable to you.

MASK PICTURES

Over the next few weeks we will be requesting certain pictures for the yearbook from ALL of our Jones Foxes - both

hybrid and virtual. We've already requested your first day of school pics. Now we want to see your masks. We want

to see your child's masked mug up close for our a crazy "mask it up" collage - a feature we hope NEVER to have

again after this year, but we think will be a great addition to remember this crazy time. Don't forget to "smize".

Pictures should be sent via email to [email protected] with MASK IT UP as your subject line. You

can continue to send us First Day pics (virtual and hybrid), but please do so in a separate email.

URGENT - MIDDAY MONITORS NEEDED

Jones teachers need your help to supervise students during the midday break. Jones needs 20 supervisors per

day. Monitors supervise students for a 30 minute lunch, 30 minute recess, and 30 minutes of fun and

engagement. Midday monitors need to be at Jones from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and earn $14/hour. Midday

monitors must complete a fingerprint-supported background check. Fingerprints are done at the Board of Education

and typically cost $58. This fee is waived for midday monitors and your fingerprints will be good for the entire time

that your child is enrolled in an Anne Arundel County Public School. Fingerprints are required to chaperone certain

field trips. Please read the flyer for more information and to apply.

Currently there are not enough volunteers. Jones staff is covering these breaks which takes away time for

them to plan instruction for our children. Please consider this opportunity for our teachers and the kids.

The midday monitor hours at Jones are 11:25 - 1:35. If you have already applied and were placed at a

different school, email Carol Alderman at [email protected] or call Jones. She will correct it and the

Jones community will be very grateful. Additionally, please let Mrs. Alderman know when you apply if you

wish to be placed at Jones.

Have a high school or college student at home with a long lunch break? This may be perfect for them!

THE JONES PTA BOARD NEEDS YOU!

VIRTUAL CAREER MONTH IN APRIL

Jones is hosting a virtual career month during April and we are asking parents or other family members to volunteer

to share information about their careers. Since a traditional career fair is not possible this year, we would like to

gather short videos (2-3 min) about different careers that we can show during our morning announcements to the

entire school community. These videos will be shown throughout the month of April and connected to our theme of

"Rocking Responsibility." Exploring careers will help students make connections to what responsibility looks like in

the workforce and why it is important they practice displaying it as students.

Please consider this opportunity to inspire young minds and make your child proud to see you on the

announcements. Please read the attached flyer for more information and fill out this INTEREST SURVEY! Contact

our school guidance counselor, Laura Dooley at [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank You!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Please note the updated travel guidelines for Anne Arundel County Public Schools (effective 3.12.21) below:

"The Governor has lifted quarantine and testing requirements for out of state travel. As such, AACPS is following

the Governor’s guidance on this issue effective immediately. A Maryland Department of Health (MDH) travel

advisory remains in place. Therefore, all students, families, and employees continue to be encouraged (but not

required) to get tested for COVID-19 upon their return from out-of-state travel."

Thank you and stay safe and healthy!

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT FIRST WEEK BACK TO SCHOOL!

Thank you teachers and all of the Jones staff for the hard work that you are putting into managing virtual learners

and hybrid learners and teaching our kids new procedures and routines. We are very grateful.

Here is a reminder of the routines to help your child(ren) prepare for a good school day. Thank you Jones families for

your support.

Virtual students log in at 9:05 to begin the school day and follow the new March 1 schedule. School lunch will be

available to pick up at Jones from 12-12:30. Instruction will be done at 3:25.

Hybrid Students that are coming to school for in person instruction...

1. Have your child prepared for school with their fully charged AACPS Chromebook, a charging cord, a set

of headphones/earbuds (not wireless), an extra mask, and all the necessary materials provided in the

learning backpacks that were distributed in the fall. If you are missing any materials, please have your child

notify their teacher when they come to school.

2. Please check to make sure that your child is feeling well before sending them to school. For the full list of

symptoms to check for please visit the AACPS Safety Protocol Page

3. Arrival and dismissal: We will be discussing these in detail at the PTA Meeting. However, all families of

hybrid students should have previously completed the online Jones Dismissal Survey. This survey is no

longer accessible. Any changes to dismissal must be communicated to your child's teacher and the

main office as soon as possible; prior to 2:30 PM on the day of a change in plans.

o Car Rider: Use the “Car Rider loop” located on the side of Jones ES off Hoyle Lane. All car riders will

enter and exit the building from the side door located within the car rider loop- NOT THE FRONT

DOORS OF THE SCHOOL as in years past.

o Bus Rider: Check your child's bus route and make sure your child is wearing their mask in order to

get onto the bus.

4. Students will enter the school at 8:50. Upon arrival to the classroom, students will be given breakfast.

Instruction will begin at 9:05.

5. Students will also be given a school lunch daily. They are welcome to bring lunch from home. However

teachers are required to give every student a lunch. They do not have to eat it, but they will have to bring it

home in their bookbag. Dinner and a snack will also be sent home.

Here are some friendly reminders:

• No visitors will be allowed into the school building without an appointment scheduled in advance with the

main office.

• Please note that we will not and cannot accept any items (such as lunches, backpacks, or Chromebooks) to

be dropped off or picked-up from the building during instructional hours.

• We highly encourage all families to keep arrival and dismissal procedures the same (please do not change

dismissal if possible).

• We are also discouraging late arrivals and early dismissals on “in-person” cohort days. Any appointments

(dentist, doctor, etc.) should be scheduled after school hours or during the virtual midday block.

• Many questions can be answered by reading the reopening safety guide

NEW RESOUCE MATERIALS FOR ALL VIRTUAL STUDENTS

There are NEW resource materials for all virtual students. There will be pick-up for these materials on Wednesday, March 10 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.

VIRTUAL DRAMA CLUB FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 4 & 5

We are very excited to offer Drama Club to 4th and 5th grade students. The club will meet virtually every week to

prepare for the spring production of The Search for the Golden Teardrop and The Great Alphabet Adventure. Mr.

Garvey, of Stage & Screen Studios, is returning as our director and is going to make this really fun for the kids, while

also helping them to grow as actors. Auditions and forms are due on March 15th, and rehearsals will run for eight

weeks starting March 22nd. We'll record the performances the last week and the show will be available online for

everyone to see that following weekend. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DRAMA CLUB AND THE

DIRECTIONS TO AUDITION!

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL OUT OF STATE, PLEASE KNOW AACPS GUIDELINES

The Governor has issued an emergency order requiring Marylanders to limit all travel to essential purposes only.

All Marylanders who do travel outside of Maryland or any individuals who do travel to Maryland must either obtain a

negative COVID-19 test result or self-quarantine for 10 days. This applies to all states, with the exception of

Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC. Read the governor’s order and the

companion health directives. Proof of a negative COVID-19 test result should be provided.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Whisman directly for further information and/or guidance.

Thank you for your understanding!

engage. Midday monitors will need to be at Jones from 11am-1pm and will earn $14/hour. Midday monitors

send more than one first day per child (first day virtual, first day Hybrid). Pictures should be sent to us via email at
