Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three to five minutes and if multiple speakers are addressing the same topic, we ask that you limit your collective remarks to 15 to 20 minutes. The Board will not discuss personnel matters in public. The Board holds a regularly scheduled work session for the purpose of examining proposals and recommendations made by the staff, public, legal counsel, consultants, or the Board. WORK SESSION

The Board of Directors of the Hampton Township School District welcomes comments from visitors, who are invited to address the Board at the beginning of the meeting. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three to five minutes and if multiple speakers are addressing the same topic, we ask that you limit your collective remarks to 15 to 20 minutes. 217. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Purpose

The Board will acknowledge each student's successful completion of the instructional

program appropriate to the student's interests and needs by awarding a diploma at

graduation ceremonies.

2. Authority

Title 22

Sec. 4.24

The Board shall adopt the graduation requirements students must achieve, which shall

include course completion and grades, completion of a culminating project, and results of

district and/or state assessments.

All students, including Hampton On-line Academy students, are required to demonstrate

proficiency in meeting state education standards. It is a graduation requirement that

students demonstrate that proficiency on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment

(PSSA) or any equivalent state assessment. Any High School student who scores below

proficient on any category of the PSSA or an equivalent state assessment will be required

to participate in the High School Tutoring Program and maintain a portfolio of his/her

work demonstrating improvement toward mastery of the state standard(s).

The Board shall award a regular high school diploma to every student enrolled in this

district, including Hampton On-Line Academy, who meets the requirements of graduation

established by this Board. as part of the district's Strategic Plan.

There shall be only one diploma awarded by this district and no distinctions shall be made

between various programs of instruction.

A requirement for graduation shall be the completion of work and studies representing the

instructional program assigned to grades 9 through 12, which are aligned to established

academic standards.

A student may qualify for graduation by attending a district school part-time when

lawfully employed part-time or when officially enrolled part-time in a postsecondary

institution.

The Board shall identify the planned courses which are required for graduation. These

written plans shall be on file in the district and shall be made available upon request for

review by the designated representatives of the Department of Education.

Title 22

Sec. 11.4

The Board requires that each candidate for graduation shall have earned at least twenty-

five (25) credits. The fourth year of high school shall not be required if the student has

been accepted by an accredited institution of higher learning and has completed all

requirements for graduation. A complete list of specific subject area credit requirements

can be found in the Board adopted High School Program of Studies.

3. Delegation of

Responsibility

The Superintendent or designee shall be responsible for planning and executing

graduation ceremonies that appropriately recognize this important achievement, which

shall include the preparation of suitable diplomas for graduating students.

4. Guidelines

Accurate recording of each student's achievement of academic standards shall be

maintained, as required by law and state regulations.

Students shall be informed of graduation requirements.

Periodic warnings shall be issued to students in danger of not fulfilling graduation

requirements.

A student who has completed the requirements for graduation shall not be denied a

diploma as a disciplinary measure, but the student may be denied participation in the

graduation ceremony when personal conduct so warrants. Such exclusion shall be

regarded as a school suspension.

A list of all graduating students shall be prepared and submitted to the Board for its

information and release to the public.

Students who have not fully completed all of the graduation requirements will not

participate in commencement.

All students, including Hampton On-Line Academy students, shall be required to

complete ten (10) hours of community service per year to receive credit for all core Social

Studies courses. The community service requirement is the responsibility of the student

for each year of school.

Retention at grade level will not be the normal practice, unless the total number of credits

failed by a student makes it mathematically impossible to remain with the usual class and

graduate.

Diplomas for Eligible Veterans

In order to honor and recognize eligible veterans who left high school prior to graduation

to serve in World War II, or the Korean War or the Vietnam War, the Board shall grant a

diploma to a veteran who meets the applicable requirements of law and completes the

required application.

Upon proper application, the Board may award a diploma posthumously to a veteran who

meets the stated requirements.

The Superintendent shall submit to the Board for its approval the names of veterans of

World War II, and the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, who are eligible for a high

school diploma.
