PHENIX CITY — The Phenix City Council is expected to vote this week on an ordinance that would limit the number of yard sales residents can have to two a year.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that if the ordi-nance passes Tuesday, it would become a misdemeanor for resi-dents to hold more than two yard sales in the same year. It would also limit the duration of a yard sale to three consecutive days.

City and law enforcement officials are pushing for the change.

Assistant Police Chief Robert Casteel says some people have yard sales every weekend, effec-tively running thrift stores out of their homes. He says it annoys neighbors and creates traffic problems.

Mayor Sonny Coulter says he expects the ordinance to pass.

Violators would face a fine of $50 to $500.
