A Chapter 7 bankruptcy allows the debtor to retain certain exempt property, but the debtor’s remaining property is gathered and sold by a trustee from which creditors will receive payment. It may also be used by businesses which wish to terminate their business.A Chapter 13 bankruptcy enables debtors, through court supervision and protection, to propose and carry out a repayment plan under which creditors are paid, in full or in part, in installments over a three-year period. During that time, debtors are prohibited from starting or continu-ing collection efforts.

The following bankruptcies declared by Calhoun County residents were recorded by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Northern District of Alabama last week:

Chapter 7■ Pamela S. Symmes, 908 Woodlock Lane, Weaver■ Jennifer Mote, 309 Anthony Drive, Anniston■ Jason M. Bonilla, 705 Alexandria Road, Weaver■ Ricky L. Romine, 1943 Seven Springs Road, Jacksonville■ Scott Castillo, 120 Alex Lane, Oxford

centers on his midday show called “Chris’ Closet,” in which he plays songs based on a certain theme and takes listeners’ calls to guess what the theme is.

It’s not pre-written by a syndicated service, either — the song selection is based purely on Stanton’s vast knowledge of American pop music.

“It’s like homemade ice cream,” he said. That knowledge stems in part from a six-year

stint he put in at WZZK, a country music station in Birmingham, where he had the midnight-5:30 a.m. shift.

“It broadened my respect for music,” he said, “and gave me an appreciation for country music. A lot of it is really good.”

Accordingly, he can draw on that genre when he comes up with his “Chris’ Closet” theme selections.

“I just love music — I don’t really believe in call-ing it ‘Top 40’ or ‘country.’ I’m not afraid to play something by a new artist because it doesn’t ‘fit.’”

However, there are guidelines.WVOK’s format is “hot adult contemporary,”

which, in a generalized sense, is aimed at the female consumer aged 25-54. The playlist is based on an outside consultant’s suggestions as well as listeners’ requests — and of course, on Stanton’s many years in the business. He’s been at WVOK since 1995, but he got his start “during the Reagan years” reporting local news at Tom Potts’ WDNG AM-1450 in Annis-ton.

That’s when he learned he wasn’t wild about being an electronic journalist, and also when he learned that night-shift DJ work can be awfully lonely work: He accidentally let loose with an expletive at 2 in the morning one time — and never heard a com-plaint, not even from the strait-laced boss himself.

But that’s not an issue now, thanks to a nifty little pre-recording program called the “Voice Tracker 32.” The station acquired the program a few years ago after a freak direct hit by a lightning bolt fried crucial components of, well, operating a radio station.

The computer program electronically arranges segments of time — time that a human program-mer fills with commercials, music, public service announcements and the like, collectively called “traffic” — and via color-coded blocks on a comput-er screen, tells the DJ when he should speak.

By following the prompts, Stanton can record his role on the 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. shift ahead of time, in way less than an hour.

“We literally merge the two [traffic and music] together on computer,” Stanton explained.

But reminded how that doesn’t seem to carry any of the romance of Wolfman Jack or other classic DJs, near and far, he declared, “I would not go back to that for anything in the world.”

Readers who know of interesting jobs — or perhaps common jobs that involve more than meets the eye — are invited to email [email protected] for a possible write-up for “Off to Work.”
