The 2018 Miss Wildcat Pageant is sponsored by the Lexington Wildcat Athletic Booster Club.

Through many programs and events such as the Miss Wildcat Pageant, the booster club is able to

support the dedicated athletes, coaches and staff at Lexington High School. Would you like to gain work experience AND class credit?

internship just for you! Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is the largest creative problem-solving competition in the world. We will

have the first meeting for the Lexington High School group on Thursday, September 28 after

school in F205.

If you like engineering, art, or performing—this is the club for you. Odyssey has challenged

students to design mechanical dinosaurs, invent machinery, build cars, write a new chapter

to Moby Dick, put a twist on classic artworks, and much more. IB students, this may be your

chance to show your creativity!

After School MATH Tutoring

After school MATH tutoring in the Counseling Office will begin on Monday, September 18 and will be

held Monday through Thursday every week going forward. Art Club is holding their first meeting on Tuesday, September 19. This club is for any student interested in the visual arts. Participants do not have to be enrolled or have previously taken art classes. Group meets the 1st

and 3rd Tuesday in C102. Please see Mr. Vasinko for more information. Updated information regarding Lunch Detention

1:20 – 1:58 (3rd Block) Meet Coach Williams at 1:15 p.m. in cafeteria **The only students allowed to complete lunch detention are those students leaving the cafeteria with Coach Williams.

**Student assigned to mandatory ILT/Lab must complete ILT/Lab requirements before completing ILT/Lunch detention.

The September newsletter for the LHS Spanish Immersion program is now published.

FINAL PICTURE MAKEUP DAY

Tumbleston Photography will be back on campus for the final makeup picture day on Monday, September 25 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. This is for any underclassmen or Seniors who have not yet had their picture taken. Please listen to the "call home" message for additional information regarding picture times and order information.

JOB SHADOWING (Rooms E202-E203)

1) Students may shadow once a semester

2) You must see the career specialist to arrange it

3) Freshman can shadow on LHS campus only 4) Career specialists can excuse your absence (you must visit them; see #2!) 5) You provide your own transport; Virtual options available for students who don't have transport 6) It can help you decide on a career or confirm a choice you have already made!

7) Lexington Medical Center and Palmetto Health have specific dates you must sign up for NOW! Limited availability

The ASVAB test (also known as the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test) will be administered on Wednesday, September 27 at 9 a.m. at LHS. This test is available to students in grades 10-12.

ASVAB scores are used to determine if you are qualified to enlist in the military and to assign you to an appropriate job in the military. To use the test for military entrance, you have to be 16. If you are 15 AND a sophomore, it can be used as a practice test.

Taking the test does not obligate you or register you for military service.

Students can sign up for the ASVAB in counseling or they can email Mr. Magyar (Career Specialist) at [email protected]

Teen Talk

If you would like an opportunity to talk over a problem with friends and share what is on your mind then Teen Talk is for you. It is a weekly group discussion held during your lunchtime in a safe and confidential setting. Some of the topics covered are self-esteem,

decision making, relationships and future career goals. Students can enroll online at www.palmettohealth.org/teentalk or in person using the Teen Talk enrollment forms. Students must have a signed consent form to participate in the program. You can enroll at any time throughout the school year. The Counseling office also has copies of the enrollment form. Parents new to Lexington 1: To view your student's grades and attendance, you will need a code to POWERSCHOOL. This information can be distributed to you in person inside the main office 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. You will need to show a PHOTO ID. CLUB APPLICATIONS DUE

Club Applications are now available in the Main Office. You must have a sponsor in place and provide the day of the week, location and time meetings will take place filled out on the form before turning it in. Applications are due back to Mrs. Standridge in the Main Office no later than September 29.
