• Because he married his mistress and had a child with her his dad stop his financial support
Salon Rejection
• The Salon constantly rejected his work. He had no money
Start of Impressionism
• 1869 Monet and Renoir painted riverside pictures which would mark the start of the Impressionist Movement

• Instead of paintings being divided into light and dark areas the picture became one expanse of colour
Optical Mixing Small brushstrokes of vivid colour on to the canvas instead of mixing the colours
Spectator sees the separate colours on the canvas and mentally forms one colour

• Monet was financially struggling. Fortunately he met an Art dealer called Durend Ruel who bought lots of his work in the coming years.
