Returns NoticeThere have been an increase in the number of items coming backin returned totes. The majority of these items have no information, so we cannot contact the store and/or give credit. The items that require refrigeration need to be placed in the morgue, as they cannot return to inventory. Please ensure all totes are checked before returning them to Mutual Drug.
ACP’s Legislative Updates Updated 8/22/2016ACP is supporting NCPA’s call on the Food and Drug Administration to withdraw its proposed ban on office use compounding, a 30-day limit on anticipatory compounding, and additional requirements for prescriptions to be considered “valid.” NCPA expressed concern that FDA’s draft guidance “will lead to decreased access to compounds and ultimately undermine the triad of care that exists between prescribers, pharmacists, and patients.” Further NCPA stated, “We are also very concerned with the FDA’s continued attempts to preempt state laws when Congress did not give FDA this authority.”
The FDA has released draft guidance regarding insanitary compounding conditions. In the FDA’s most recent compounding-related guidance, they list examples of what the agency considers insanitary conditions. FDA states that if a compounding facility procedures drugs under insanitary conditions, the facility and responsible individuals may be subject to federal regulatory actions including, but not limited to, a warning letter, seizure of product, and/or injunction. FDA may also recommend that the facility initiate a recall of some or all of its drugs and cease operations until the insanitary conditions have been adequately addressed.
Be reminded that Congress is still in recess until after Labor Day. There is not a better time to have your member of Congress, Senator, or member of the House, come to your pharmacy for a visit. You will then have the opportunity to discuss your service to your patients (their constituents) in helping maintain their health. You will also have the opportunity to discuss issues such as “DIRs” “MAC transparency” and “Any Willing Pharmacy.” It is important that your member hear directly from you (the expert) exactly what is happening in your pharmacy and pharmacies across the nation. They need to understand this is a national problem for independent pharmacies and their colleagues back in Congress need to understand this problem. The objective is to get your member to talk to his peers in Congress about this national problem for independent community pharmacies.
If you cannot schedule your congressperson into your pharmacy, go see him/her before Labor Day. Look at their website and locate a function they are having before September 1, 2016. It is election time, they will be happy to see you (their constituent) and it will give you an opportunity to talk with them in person and help them understand what you are doing for your patients (their constituents) and what is happening that negatively affects your day-to-day pharmacy business. You really need to do this… you are the only person that can truly explain pharmacy to your member of Congress.
