5. Generic Patanase Multisource Launch SoonApotex is expected to lose their exclusivity on generic Patanase (Olopatadine) in early April. Sandoz and Perrigo are expected to launch at this time. It is strongly advised you watch your inventory closely in anticipation of any potential decreases in the market. As per Mutual policy, shelf stocks are not permitted to the retail level.

6. Abilify Generic Potentially DelayedMany manufacturers have expressed concern recently that they do not expect to launch generic versions of Abilify (Aripiprazole) as previously expected on April 20, 2015. The litigation surrounds an indication that the branded company received that was not previously captured on many ANDA filings. As a result of this, the approval of generic forms of this drug is less likely. Be sure to watch your branded inventory. More information will be posted onwww.mdmembers.com when available.

7. Generic Astepro Nasal 0.15% Coming SoonSeveral manufacturers are expected to launch their generics for Astepro 0.15% (Azelastine Nasal) April 9, 2015. This is a reintroduction to the market after Meda was granted a temporary injunction. Mutual Drug will provide more information as it becomes available.

8. Potassium Chloride Liquid - NDC Not FDA ListedSome stores are reporting that Qualitest’s Potassium Chloride Liquid has been rejected by Medicare Part D with a message of “NDC not FDA Listed”. Qualitest’s item has DESI status and the FDA has recently approved the NDA for Potassium Chloride by Pharma-Med, INC. At this time, Qualitest continues to manufacture and distribute this item.

NC Medicaid Policy Q&A on Outpatient Pharmacy Program Policies The “Cost of Dispensing” survey from North Carolina Medicaid has been received by every pharmacy that holds an active pharmacy Medicaid provider number. The purpose of this survey is to show Medicaid and the legislature the cost incurred by a pharmacy when filling a Medicaid prescription. There have been many questions to Medicaid recently concerning copays and gift certificates. CCNC sent out a Q&A sheet (see pages 11-14 attached) that you may find informative.

Notice: Supply status of 0.9% Sodium Chloride; 0.45% Sodium Chloride; 5% Dextrose; Lactated Ringer’s solution;empty LifeCare container; sterile water for injection.Due to a national shortage in several large volume intravenous (I.V.) solutions products, Hospira has placed the I.V. solutions products listed above on allocation. Hospira is currently manufacturing and releasing increased volumes of I.V. products on a continuous basis. Due to heavy demand and low stock, over the next five to six weeks we expect locational backorders and delays in shipment for several of these products. Full recovery of these products will require consistent supply from all U.S. manufacturers. Hospira is allocating these products, and as it becomes available will continue to ship quantities allocated for contracted customers based on historical purchases. ACP’s Legislative UpdatesUpdated 4/6/2015

The “Cost of Dispensing” survey from North Carolina Medicaid has been received by every pharmacy that holds an active pharmacy Medicaid provider number. Mutual Drug and ACP have conveyed how important it is to fill out this survey and return it to Medicaid. The purpose of this survey is to show Medicaid and the legislature the cost incurred by a pharmacy when filling a Medicaid prescription. In the last survey in 2010, 89% of chain pharmacies responded to the survey but only 11% of independents responded. This means the chains were the controlling influence on showing the cost to dispensing in North Carolina. It is apparent that the economy of scale in the chains shows the per prescription cost to be less than the cost shown by independent pharmacies. You can see that it is imperative for independent pharmacies to respond to this survey.

There have been many questions to Medicaid recently concerning copays and gift certificates. CCNC sent out a Q&A sheet (see pages 11-14 attached) that you may find informative.

In the U. S. Senate, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) offered Senate Bill 314 (S. 314), the Medicare Part D Provider Status Bill, to the budget resolution that was reported out of committee. This is a great step forward by Senator Grassley since this will begin the process of allocating money for the cost of this bill to the budget process. This bill would allow pharmacists to be reimbursed for services that are within the state scope of law in their state.

Senate Bill 776 (S. 776), the Medication Therapy Management Empowerment Act, has been introduced in the U. S. Senate by Senators Pat Roberts (R-KS), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Mark Kirk (R-IL), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Senate Bill 776 would expand medication therapy management (MTM) eligibility to Medicare beneficiaries who have one chronic condition, which must include cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hyperlipidemia or diabetes.
