AN INNOVATION IN ACCESSORIES

New York, NY, September 2014. Just a brief glimpse of the women in New York City is enough to make you realize how unique and different each and every one is. You have the professional executive, with her both her career and style well-established; the young working gal, new to the job market and more experimental with her clothes; the price-conscious college student, mixing and matching fast fashion with the pieces of contemporary designers; and so on. But no matter their lifestyle or take on fashion, one thing that these women all share is the desire for empowerment: through the brands they patron and the products they wear.

In essence, Monique Rene seeks to produce timeless handbags that can transition seamlessly from season to season, from day to night, from work to play. Its mission: to let consumers “Be BOLD. Be CLASSIC. Be EDGY. Be HAPPY. #BEYOU. #YOURSTYLE.”

At the heart of this concept is Monique Rene’s “M FLAP”, an interchangeable detail which is featured in all of the bags in her collection. It is this notion of versatility that caters to two important consumer desires in a solo product: choice and affordability. The former accommodates the latter: with the option to switch and play with flaps, customers are actually getting more than one bag in a single purchase. Flaps can also be purchased by themselves, then mix-and-matched among all the bags in the collection.

As a life-long adorer of fashion, Monique Rene Gauthier has an extensive background in fashion design which began in early childhood. As a young girl, she dabbled in any media she could get her hands on: pencils, paper, leather and fabrics. She continued pursuing her passion for art and creativity at Parsons the New School for Design. Her move to the eclectic fashion capital of New York City presented her with other opportunities in fashion outside the educational environment: her position as a handbag consultant at the prestigious Saks Fifth Avenue, for instance, not only exposed her to various notable fashion houses, but furthered her knowledge of the fashion industry such that she could better establish where she wants to position her brand within it.
