Thank you to everyone who came and provided great ideas and resources. Our next meeting will be on Monday 20 June. We welcome and congratulate Dora Banis and Amanda Deakin who were coopted onto school council on Tuesday night. Cory Allen gave me a beautiful letter about why he loves coming to Monmia. Thank you Cory, you made my day. Thank you to all the beautiful children who come through the front gates with smiles on their faces and greet me back by asking me how I am. Kim and James (Lily’s {1/2A} parents) have been hard at work transforming the Prep courtyard into an amaz- ing Fairy Garden after Mrs Creasey and her team of Year 5/6 students painted the walls. Thank you to Family and Friends for organizing our yummy Chocolate Drive. Please help us by selling your chocolate box to help us raise funds to contribute to our new playground equipment. Fifty excited Year ¾ children with Mrs Tate, Ms Caiolfa, Mr Ly, Ros Webb and Karolina Talevski left for Camp Jungai on Wednesday. We know they arrived safely and started their activities once they had unpacked their bags. Thank you Mr Ly for going on camp as Ms Burrows was unable to go. You can follow their adventures on Twitter where they have already posted some tweets. Staffing Congratulations are in order for Mr Dean Squires on his appointment as Acting Assistant Principal at Keilor Heights. The appointment is until the end of Term 3. We are all going to miss Dean and on behalf of the school community we wish him well on this wonderful opportunity. Mrs Anne Jose will replace Dean during this time in his classroom role. Sad News Many of you would not realize that our beautiful roses and gardens around the school were all created and carefully tended by Mr Steve Brelis (Ros’ father-in-law) over several years. Sadly, Steve Brelis passed away last week. On behalf of the Monmia school community past and present we pass on our condolences to the Brelis family and acknowledge the lasting legacy Steve has left at Monmia through his beautiful gardens which we still enjoy today. Education Week Monmia is celebrating Education Week next week as Year 3/4 students are away at camp this week. You will have received a schedule of your child’s timetable for the week. All parents/guardians are welcome to come and visit the classrooms throughout the week. Look out for some of the special events that year levels are holding. Don’t forget our amazing Arts Show on Monday 23 May from 5-7pm. The school choir will perform in the Performing Arts room at 6:30pm. Also don’t forget to visit Centro where our students’ work will be on display. Curriculum Day Please remember that Friday 27 May is Curriculum Day and there will be no school for students on that day. As staff will attend this professional development day away from Monmia and there will not be anyone at school not even the office staff. The school will be closed on this day. SPOTLIGHT ON BOUNCE BACK! WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE PROGRAM
Dear Parents and Guardians, It is important to know what bullying is and what it is not. Monmia has NO TOLERANCE on Bullying. In fact our slogan is ‘BULLYING…NO WAY! Last week we looked at the definition of Bullying and noticed that there are four main points:
It has to be deliberate
It has to happen more than once
It can involve one person or a group of people
There is an imbalance of power in incidents of bullying
This week I would like to explore each of the types of Bullying in greater detail. 1. Direct physical bullying
hitting, tripping, pushing someone
hiding or damaging someone’s property, drawing on someone’s work
forcing someone to hand over their belongings
2. Direct verbal bullying
name calling, insults, ‘put down’ comments
making racist remarks
disguising an insult by saying “It was only a joke”
3. Indirect bullying – this form of bullying is harder to recognise and often carried out behind the bullied stu-dent’s back. It is designed to harm someone’s social reputation and/or cause humiliation. Indirect bullying includes:
lying and spreading rumours
playing nasty jokes to embarrass and humiliate
mimicking
encouraging others to socially exclude someone
damaging someone’s social reputation and social acceptance
cyber-bullying, which involves the use of electronic means to humiliate and distress
4. Cyber-bullying, which involves the use of technologies such as the use of email, text messages, chat rooms, Facebook or Twitter to humiliate and distress a person. It can be verbal (over the telephone or mo-bile phone), or written (threats, racial comments) or graphic (sending photos, attaching images to state-ments).
Family Activity As a family discuss that none of these forms of bullying is acceptable. Create a BULLYING…NO WAY poster. I would love to put some of the posters made at home around the school. I hope you find the articles interesting and useful.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Monmia is a Bucket Filling School! We fill buckets and we don’t dip!
We use our lid to keep our bucket full and keep the drops in! I love how the Bucket Fillers Philosophy has been embraced by our school community this year. I know that we can keep filling other people’s buckets and make Monmia Primary School a warm, positive and caring place to be. When we all fill other people’s buckets then all community members benefit from these acts of kindness. There is so much to acknowledge at Monmia Primary School! Here are some ‘drops’ for you to read.
Remember that when you fill someone else’s bucket, you fill yours as well so keep filling buckets Monmia! Happy Bucket Filling!

Dear Monmia Families,
We welcome you all to Monmia to help us celebrate Education Week from Monday the 23rd to the Thursday the 26th of May. All classrooms will be open throughout the week and the students would love to share their learning across all areas of the curriculum. Please check following page for the list of activities during next week. A special assembly will be held on Monday 23rd of May at 9am. Student work will also be displayed at Centro Keilor Downs Shopping Centre throughout the week. Please note that Friday is a curriculum day and therefore no students will be attending school. Don’t forget the always amazing Art Show on Monday evening with a guest appearance from the Monmia School Choir. Looking forward to seeing you there!

CANTEEN NEWS As of the start of this term, Jude Fina Foods, our school canteen provider, will be opening for three days only - MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY. Unfortunately, they are no longer able to provide lunch orders every day. This has been due to a drop in families using this service. Please remember that from next term there will be no lunch orders on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
