u Residential buildings are cheaper, but

    watch out! I someone builds

a hazard (a sewage plant or rubbish

dump, or example) on your district,

    residential blocks are worth nothing!

Industrial blocks cost more but are asaer investment.

u Protect your districts by building

    schools, water towers and other

    bonus buildings.

    The Extras

u Buy two districts o the same color andtreat yoursel to a stadium to hike up

    your wages.

u Buy all o the districts in one color group

so that you can build a skyscraper and

immediately double the rent value o all

    o those districts.

u Buy all o the districts intwo colorgroups, and the Monopoly Tower which

doubles the rent value oall yourdistricts could be yours!

When you land on a PLANNING PERMISSION

    space, you must:

u Build a bonus building in a district that

    you own

ORu Build a hazard in another players

    district (to make their residential

    buildings worthless)

    OR

u Build a bonus building or hazard in an

unowned district (i you are planning to

buy it or want to block another players

    plans!).

    IMPORTANT: BONUS BUILDINGS PREVENT

HAZARDS FROM BEING BUILT ON A

    DISTRICT, AND HAZARDS PREVENT

    BONUS BUILDINGS FROM BEING BUILT!

For example, i you have built a school on

your district, another player could not later

build a power station there, and vice versa.

Hazards and bonus buildings are ree and do not count towards the 8-block maximum

    per district.

    STADIUMS

    SKYSCRAPERSAND THE MONOPOLY TOWER

    The Monopoly Tower

    COST:a7m

Once you own all o the districts in two color

groups, you can buy the MONOPOLY Tower

and build it on any district in those groups.

This doubles the rent value o everydistrict you own!

Skyscrapers and the Monopoly Tower do not count towards the 8-block building limit

    per district.

    Skyscrapers

    Build a skyscraper to double

the rent value o all the

    districts in a color group.

The cost o a skyscraper is

shown at the bottom o each

    District card.

u Once you own all o the districts in onecolor group, you can build a skyscraper

    on any one o them.

u You can build one skyscraper per

    color group.

u A skyscraper immediately doublesthe rent value o all districts in itscolor group.

See page 13: How to Charge Rent.

Stadiums do not count towards the

    8-block building limit per district.

    Stadiums

    COST: a2m

    PLANNING PERMISSION

Buy a stadium to increase your income; there

are only two in the game, so youll have to

    be quick!

u Once you own two districts o the samecolor, you can build a stadium on eitherone o them during your turn.

u Collecta1m per stadium you own

every time you pass GO (in addition

    to your wages).

u You can only build one stadium in each

    color group.

u Stadiums do not increase your rent value.

    Rent example:

You own Central Quay, Old Town and Harbor Heights. Another player lands on Central Quay.

    There are:

2 residential blocks, which dont count because the hazard

(power station) makes them worthless. Value =a0

    4 industrial blocks. Value =a3.5m

1 skyscraper on Harbor Heights, which is in the same

    color group, so double the rent. 2 x a3.5m = a7m

    TOTAL RENT VALUE: a7m

When another player lands on one o your districts, check the ollowing to work out how

    much they owe you:

    No buildings?

    Charge Land Rent

    only.

    Protect your districts

Put bonus buildings on your districts to prevent other players rom building hazards on them.

u I another player builds a hazard in one o

your districts, all o the residential buildingsin that district become worthless and do

not count towards the rent value o that

district. Leave them on the board.

u You can remove hazards rom your

districts by paying a500kper blockto the bank during your turn.

    Example:

To remove a prison (4 blocks) rom your

    district, paya2m (4 x a500k) to the

bank and return the prison to the banker.

You can now charge rent or the

    residential buildings on that district

    again.

    BONUS BUILDINGS

    HAZARDS

    School

    Wind arm Water tower

    Park

    Power station(3 blocks)

    Prison(4 blocks)

    Rubbish dump(2 blocks)

    Sewage plant(3 blocks)

    Residential and/or

    industrial buildings?Count how many

    blocks (not buildings)

    there are and charge

    the matching rent

    value shown on the

    district card.

Hazard? Count the industrial blocks only.

Is there a skyscraper on any district in

that color group OR the MONOPOLY

Tower on any district you own?Double the rent!

(I you have a skyscraper AND the

MONOPOLY Tower, you cannot double the

    rent twice.)

I the paying player cannot aord the rent, they must mortgage a district or do a deal

with you to raise the money.

    HOW DO I CHARGE RENT?

  • 7/31/2019 Monopoly City

    8/8

    DEALS

    14 15

u When you want to make a deal, press the

Auction button to start the timer. You

must come to an agreement beore the

    time runs out!

    u I you swap/sell a district during a deal,

    any buildings already there must

    stay there.

Rent Dodge CardThe Rent Dodge card entitles you to one

    rent-ree turn!

u When you land on FREE PARKING,

collect the Rent Dodge card rom

    beside the board.

u Use this card on a later turn when you

    dont want to pay rent.

u Once youve used the card, put it back

next to the FREE PARKING space.

u I another player lands on FREE PARKING

beore youve used the card, youve

missed your chance to use it and must

give it to them. Bad luck!

Make deals with each other to raise unds or get the districts you need! There is no penalty or landing here. You can still collect rent and build on sites while

    youre on FREE PARKING.

I you cant aord to pay rent, you can mortgage one or more districts that you own to

    raise some money.

    To mortgage a district

The mortgage value is the same as the

districts current rent value. Turn the District

card acedown in ront o you and collect

that amount rom the banker. All buildings

    stay there.

You cant collect rent or mortgaged districts.

To buy back a mortgaged district later in

    the game

Turn the District card over and pay the rent

value to the banker, i.e. the amount you

    received when you mortgaged it.

You can start charging rent on the district and

building on it again right away.

I you owe more money than you can raise rom your assets, you are declared bankrupt

and are out o the game.

Owing the bankerReturn your District cards to the banker who will

auction o each property to the highest bidder.

Return any Get out o jail ree cards to the

    bottom o the relevant pile.

Owing another playerThe other player receives any money let,

your District cards and any Get out o jail

    ree cards you own.

    FREE PARKING

    JAIL

    Go to jail i:

u You pick a Chance card which tells you

    to Go directly to jail.

u You roll a double three times in a row onyour turn.

Your turn ends when you are sent to jail.

Move onto the jail space and do not collect

any money i you pass GO.

While in jail you can collect rent and build

properties on districts, as long as they are

    not mortgaged.

Get out o jail by:u Paying aa500kne and continuing on

    your next turn.

u Using a Get out o jail ree card.

    u Rolling a double.
