Dear Brother Knights, “Do more and Be more” We live in strange times. Going to the office has become obsolete, office hours, forget about it. No more school but the whole world has become an environment for learning. Home has become an office; home has become a school. One would have never believed if someone said at the beginning of the year that we are going to have six months of lockdown. But now it is an occurred reality. During this difficult time, it is possible that we could be tempted to quit, quit even on church and God. But this is where we as members of Christ are called to ‘ do more and be more’. The scripture says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure” (1 Corinthians 10:13). We read in Acts of the Apostle when the early church was going through difficulties and hardship, they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of the bread and the prayers. Bishop Douglas Crosby OMI in his introductory message on the capital campaign ‘One Heart One Soul’ says, “The fund- raising helps, but it is more than just fundraising. It is getting involved. Leaning in, I like that little phrase. When things are difficult you know a lot of people think I am going to quit. It isn’t the answer. Work together, build it up and make it better”.

For sure, the time that we live in is difficult. But this is whereas Knights we are called to ‘do more and be more’. We
cannot allow this motto of ours to be just on paper and in our thoughts. No wonderful ideas are good as long as they are
not transmitted into action. So dear brother knights and family members, as Christians we are called to share with one
other, care for each other, to believe that we are in this together. Let us do more, let us be more.

Message from the Grand Knight:
Brothers: I had a great vacation in August at the cottage. I finally had an opportunity to enjoy some precious time with my family. I caught some fresh wide and small mouth bass for lunch, as well as some walleye and perch. I also attempted some golfing, water sports, boating, campfires with marsh mellows and enjoyed some fine vintage wine, cocktails and spirits. Just what the doctor ordered. September is upon us and many of us will have children or grandchildren who will be returning to schools, colleges and universities. This pandemic had a profound effect on our education system and will continue to present many challenges to education as a whole. We must stand together and pray for a cure to this deadly virus globally so that we can once again be able to return to some normality in our everyday life. As brother Knights, we must continue to do what we can for the less fortunate within our community, as well as being there for our family, friends and our church. These last six months have been challenging for many of us who may have faced job losses, health issues, lost loved ones to illness, and a lack of social interaction with people whom we care about the most. We must use the power of prayers to communicate with our Lord and Saviour and pray for healing in many areas. Never has there been a more serious test to our faith than now and we must stay strong and not let evil take over our lives. We must follow Christ’s teachings, as well as read scripture (our spiritual nourishment) and pray the rosary as good Catholic gentlemen. We must draw our strength from Christ in order to overcome our challenges.

Upcoming Fall Events : Keep in mind some of the other great pro-life events happening in October: ● Respect Life Sunday Oct. 3 & 4 - we are working on alternative forms of pro-life education for this special sunday (ie. video/banners) that will comply with physical distancing rules currently being implemented in the parishes. ○ Some councils do their Roses for Life on this weekend - let us know if you’d like to work together on how this can be done or enhanced. ● The Gathering Sat. Oct. 3 - We still intend to hold the prayer gathering following Covid-19 rules or a Zoom event as a back-up plan. ● Life Chain Sun. Oct. 4 - this event is now under the leadership of Mary Muller who will
contact you separately regarding Life Chain plans. How your council can help: Plan to attend/participate in these events in whatever format they take (Add them to your calendar). As more details are released, help us spread the word to your friends, family, business, and church.

Section 2 Change “ the initiation fee shall be $ 40.00” to read “the initiation fee shall be $ 50.00 and may be altered
annually at the December Executive Meeting and thereafter at the December Council Business Meeting by a majority
vote of the members present.
Section 3.Reads“ Each member shall pay annual dues. The dues shall be payable quarterly in advance at the first regular meetings in January, April, July and October. The annual dues of members shall be $ 50.00, except honorary members who shall pay the sum of State and Supreme Council per capita charges and levies, and honorary life members who shall pay nothing. A reduced rate of dues for insured members under 26 years of age may be established, but it shall not be less than $ 3.00 per year. Except as stated above, the dues of associate and insurance members shall be the same “
Delete and substitute “ Each member shall pay annual dues by March of the current calendar year. The Council portion of the annual dues shall be determined at each December Council Business Meeting by a majority vote to set the Council dues portion for the subsequent calendar year. Annual Dues shall include Supreme and State assessments as well as the Council dues. Dues for new and transferred members hall be prorated and as per the requirements of Supreme and State for their portions. Honorary members shall pay the sum of Supreme and State assessments. Life members shall be exempt from any dues.”

The State Lottery is here
In case anyone is not aware of it, we have been informed by State that the draw for the State Lottery has
been postponed to October 30th, 2020 as a result of the present global pandemic. We have until
October 1st, 2020 to return the tickets that were sold. Please do not stick address labels on the
ticket stubs to be returned to State as it will render the ticket to be invalid. Instead, please print
name and address of ticket purchaser on ticket stubs sold.
Booklets of tickets are available and can be secured directly from Colin Pye. If you have not
secured a book or two of tickets from brother Colin Pye, now is the time to do so and help to
raise funds for our council. Remember that this is an excellent opportunity for our council to
make some extra money just by selling out all 60 booklets that we received from State. If we
managed to sell all 60 booklets, the council stands to make an extra $600. Please contact
brother Colin Pye and get your booklets today and sell it to all your friends, co-workers,
neighbours, and family. Also, if anyone has sold tickets, please hang on to the stubs and
money until we can meet in person again. Thank you all for your hard work, support and
cooperation!

13th Annual Golf Tournament “Helping those in Need in Our Local Community.”
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and the uncertainty of how we can hold a tournament
and be able to have any kind of fraternal gathering afterwards in the form of a banquet,
we are forced to post-pone this year’s tournament to next year.

Obituaries
Brother Karl Plach Brother Karl Plach lost his battle with cancer on July 26
th, 2020. He was 75 years old and just shy of his 76
th birthday. His
funeral was held on July 31st, 2020 at 11 am at St. Raphael’s Parish in Burlington. Brother Karl Plach joined council 5073
back in 1975. He was an active member of our council for a number of years and was quite engaged in the Bingo Fundraising Project of the council. Karl and his wife Nicole and three children were also active members of the St. Patrick’s Parish Community for many years, serving in many minor ministries within the church. Brother Karl Plach and his wife eventually started attending St. Raphael’s Parish as parishioners, and still attended masses occasionally at St. Patrick’s Parish. Brother Karl Plach was a Proud Polish man who was born in Germany in a Nazi prison camp. His family immigrated to Canada after the war and started their Canadian life in Sudbury, Ontario. Karl was a graduate of Laurentian University. He attended St-Mary’s Teacher’s College and followed a successful career in insurance as President of Claims. Brother Karl loved to travel, fish, camp, take walks on the beach and be surrounded by his family on Sunday dinners with Johnny Cash playing in the background. He will forever be missed. Family dinners will never be the same. Please join me in continuing to pray for brother Karl’s family.
