A MESSAGE from the Lt. Governor
Happy Lunar New Year! With the start of another New Year comes yet
another reminder about Key Club’s next beginning – at District Convention
2015. This newsletter is one of many lasts – the last DCM of the 2015-2016 term
was just a week ago, and upcoming events such as DCON and Banquet will
conclude the Key Club Year. I’ll be touching more on this topic at Banquet,
but please know that it was a pleasure to serve all of you <3 I’m very excited
to see everyone at the upcoming events. Be ready to shed lots of tears and
smile at happy memories! I promise you that it will be worth the time to
attend.

Michael Mendoza, Florin
Member
This Key Clubber has been a prime example of "every member is a leader".
He has stepped out of his comfort zone and has shown passion in everything
he does, being actively involved in service to supporting the division. He has
helped the executive board immensely by taking on the responsibility as Pro-
ject Chair at a service event. Michael spend one day cleaning up the Kiwanis
Family House and spent the next day selling chocolate in the cold to raise
money for the club he serves! He also served as a delegate for Conclave, rep-
resenting the members best interest when listening and voting for 7 South's
future leader. His progression and dedication toward Division 7 South has
demonstrated the Michael Mendoza is a true KEY player.
QuynhAnh Dam, Sheldon
Treasurer
This monster is always on top of her game whether it is retrieving invoices,
compiling paperwork, or pressuring other clubs for information, she is resili-
ent when it comes to the well being of the club she serves. Despite all
of her school, family, scouts, and other extra curricular obligations, she al-
ways makes time to complete her Key Club responsibilities to the best of
her abilities. Through her perseverance she was able to achieve a price for
the members she serves of under $200 for DCON that including Disney-
land! As a host of this region event, you may see her running around tonight
as QuynhAnh Dam is constantly looking to work for the benefit of others.
Sheldon
In the month of December, this club had much planning
to do for the next year. After setting the date for the
2015-2016 term elections, they hosted three Officer
Training Conferences for any members who were inter-
ested in running for a club officer position. During the
training, the officers had explained each of their roles
and duties, as well as how the election process will
be. Meanwhile, they were also very diligent in planning
for DCON, reaching a price of $197 with Disneyland,
thanks to the great bond with their sponsoring Kiwanis
club. Sheldon Key Club has also impressively expanded
one of their annual events to host their 7th Annual Movie
Night with all of Region 16!

got to do various tasks to help kids in the hospital before they go into surgery.

March of Dimes
The March of Dimes Foundation is a nonprofit organization
founded by Franklin Roosevelt in 1938 to combat polio.
Since then, it has aimed to improve the health of pregnant
women and babies by preventing birth defects, premature
birth, and infant mortality. Every 1 in 8 babies are born
premature.
As one of its preferred charities, Key Club has been hosting fundraisers
and awareness programs to support March of Dimes since 1978.
how can you help? Participate in the annual March for Babies* event in Sacramento
on April 25, 2015 at the State Capitol.

Gen Chao, Florin
Member
This monster is a very dedicated and active member of the commu-
nity and the club she serves. She has served over 90 service hours,
building relations her sponsoring Kiwanis club and club officers. De-
spite the fact that she is unable to attend DCON, she still consis-
tently attends DCM’s and has attended her sponsoring Kiwanis crab
feed to help raise funds for DCON. Gen is a wonderful, positive, and
spirited person, always readily available to those who need a hand
or someone to talk to. This past month, Gen Chao has shown her
interest and outstanding passion for serving a larger role within Key
Club.

President
This officer has not only been providing guidance to her fellow officers,
but also to the members. She puts herself out there as a reliable
source to go to if anyone needs assistance to provide the best Key
Club experience for the members. Through this, she has created a
strong connection with the members, and they truly see her as a
leader. Her interactions with her fellow officers also show her diligence
and helpfulness, whether if its through reminders, phone calls, or any
other form of communication. Leeza Xiong is constantly ready and will-
ing to support the members and officers she serves as a newly ap-
pointed president.
Florin
Nearing the end of the 2014-2015 Key Club term, this
club has been continuously preparing for their transition
into the new term. After hosting club elections, they imme-
diately host multiple officer trainings to ensure the smooth
transition after DCON. To lighten the cost of District Con-
vention, they have participated in service fundraisers with
their sponsoring Kiwanis club, earning over $900 for the
club. Always keeping general members and officers active
within the club, Florin Key Club will continue to leave their
legacy at their upcoming Club Banquet.
Member of the Month
If you were to rewind back to a year ago, I could probably only tell you what division I am from, and that would be about it. I wasn’t the dedicated Key Clubber I am now, only went to a few service events here and there, and never found my passion for Key Club. But a year from that, today, I have served my club as an Appointed Task Coordinator, and am now the Treasurer Elect.
A year ago, I made the questionable, but now probably one of the greatest, decisions to go to District Convention. I had
figured since my groups of friends were going and the price wasn’t too high; why not go to District Convention. As I began to attend general and District Convention specific meetings more often, I realized how out of place I was. Although everyone was extremely welcoming, I was surrounded by individuals who had a true passion and understanding of what Key Club was, while I was just kind of there. I didn’t know any cheers or any general Key Club knowledge, but I was determined to learn more about what Key Club really was about. When District Convention finally rolled around, I was extremely nervous. I didn’t feel like I was ready to go through with this. I felt like I didn’t have the necessary knowledge to go. People were constantly telling me “This is where the true Key Clubbers go” and that honestly frightened me because I was not considered a true Key Clubber. That all changed in one weekend. Attending all the general sessions, workshops, and just being able to talk to people and being able to see how each individual had their own passion and own definition of what Key Club really changed me. I realized that Key Club was more than what the books say, everyone’s Key Club journey is different, and I wanted to start on mine. After District Convention was over, I felt that I had really changed as a person. District Convention really opened my eyes for qualities I never knew I had within myself. That is why when appointed positions were offered, I took that chance and throughout this term I was able to serve as Sheldon Key Club’s Appointed Task Coordinator. This term has certainly brought new challenges for myself and opened doors to so many things I never knew I could do. I have grown as a leader, communicator, and a Key Clubber. I have learned so much, and that is what drove me to run to be Treasurer, and is why I will be serving my club as Treasurer in the next term. Within this one year, I realized the true potential I had within myself, and I hope to continue to grow in all these qualities. I found that being a “true Key Clubber” had no real definition; it was how I defined myself as a Key Clubber. No one should be turned away from Key Club because they feel they aren’t good enough or they don’t know enough because everything is a learning process and that is what I definitely learned in the past year. Key Club doesn’t only serve local communities, when you join Key Club, it is like doing a service to yourself to unlock the true potential you may not have realized you had in yourself.

Laguna Creek Key Club's Tapioca and Tournament (2/7/15) was quite the interesting event.
With the restaurant fundraiser and so many activities and tournaments planned, I–as Franklin Key Club's treasurer elect–was curious about how Laguna Creek would handle it all. I arrived at the restaurant at 1:30pm, half an hour after tournaments were intended to begin.
It was quite the spectacle–I saw Key Clubbers in the front making orange Hershey kiss flowers, in the middle playing cards, and in the back preparing for the Smash Bros Tournament. I saw some D7N bees, but it was mostly a MONSTER invasion. As a somewhat timid monster, I wandered around awkwardly observing what people were doing and looking for people to talk to. Luckily, tournaments hadn't started yet, so it wasn't too difficult.I greeted and introduced myself to several people and listened to many conversations.
I watched the Super Smash Bros Tournament for a while and finally learned how it works. Apparently, avatars die after getting knocked off the screen or receiving a critical hit after a variable amount of damage above 100 percent. It doesn't make much sense if you think about it (how in the world can someone receive over 100 or even 200 percent damage and not be dead?!!), but it was entertaining to some extent. The champions were Ryan Santiago and Stephen Becker, both from Franklin. I suppose their victory was imminent, given that those two practice Super Smash Bros every morning and after school, but still plenty cause for celebration.
I'm not sure how the 13 tournament worked, but I heard some pretty loud groans and cheering. Throughout the fundraiser, Camrick was selling Valentine Grams and managing the tournaments, Andrew advertised several activities that were going on, and LC Key Clubbers were making those Hershey kiss flowers. Shout-out to their efforts.
Although I cannot advocate for their project's financial success, I believe that they've done well in outreaching to the population of gamers and card players in Division 7 South.
A MONSTERIFIC Turnout

On February 7th, Kiwanis had a Crab Feed at St. Vincent DePaul Church Hall. Our Rancho Murieta Key Club volunteered to help serve at the event along with two other Key Clubs: Sheldon and Pleasant Grove. We arrived at the Church Hall around 5:00 p.m. to help set up for the event. We made tip jars for each of the tables and everyone was assigned two tables to serve throughout the night. We were instructed to wear white shirts with black pants and wear our hair up.
When we first got there, we were fed a delicious spaghetti dinner including salad and bread. At 6:00 p.m., we began to walk around
and serve appetizers to the newly arriving guests. Once everyone had been seated, dinner was served. We were in charge of carrying all of the dishes from the kitchen to our designated tables. The first course was bread, quickly followed by salad. We refilled salads and then continued with the next course: pasta. We replaced finished salads with the warm pasta and remained attentive to our tables for any needs they might have.
Finally, it was time for the main dish, crab. We carried bowls of crab to our tables for the guests to enjoy what they came for. We
occasionally emptied their crab shell buckets and removed finished dishes from their tables. We also took out the trash whenever it appeared full. Served last was dessert, cookies of every kind. Near 9:00 p.m., guests started leaving the event, and we started to clean up. We cleared all of the tables including napkins, trash, plates, and Valentine’s Day Decorations that had been placed on the table. We also collected our tip jars that had been filled throughout the night. Whatever money we made from our tables went to our Rancho Murieta Key Club. Around 9:00 p.m., our Key Club left the successful Kiwanis Crab Feed. Our Rancho Murieta Key Club had fun volunteering at the Crab Feed and always enjoy helping out at Kiwanis Events.
