Dear Prospective Student,

Montessori Centre International thank you for your interest in our Foundation Degree course,delivered in partnership with the London Metropolitan University.

We recommend that you contact us at your earliest convenience to arrange an informal interview asplaces are limited on our annual September intake and we expect the course to be oversubscribed. Ifyou are a MCI Montessori qualified practitioner interested in our part-time Foundation Degreeprogramme, please bring with you to your interview a copy of your Montessori diploma and a currentCV listing all training and study undertaken post Montessori qualification.

You are invited to attend one of our OPEN EVENINGS where prospective students will learn more aboutthe degree course as well as the Montessori approach. These take place at Balderton Street and werecommend that you reserve a place. Please note that the open evenings start with a formalpresentation and we request that you arrive by 6.30pm. List of Open Evenings for the academic year2011/2012 is enclosed within this prospectus.

OVERSEAS STUDENTS, applying for the Foundation Degree: If you are living overseas and wish toapply to study at MCI London, please submit your curriculum vitae, a photocopy of your passportphoto page, photocopies of your educational certificates, evidence of your study of English, twowritten references and a HANDWRITTEN essay describing a memorable childhood experience (2sides of A4 paper) by May 2012. Please note that a good level of written and spoken English isrequired for all those wishing to follow our courses and international students must hold IELTS(Academic and General Training) comprising four components: listening; speaking; reading; writing all atgrade 6.5 – please provide copy of a valid certificate along with your application. Once yourapplication has been accepted, you will be sent an offer letter with a registration form which you needto fill in and return to us with the registration fee, deposit and the first year’s tuition fees. Then we willsend you a registration letter and apply for a Certificate of Acceptance – which is required for yourStudent Visa Application – through the UK Border Agency.

EARLY CHILDHOOD PRACTICE(Foundation Degree)

Dual qualification – our full-time graduates also receive the MCIInternational Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy

This Foundation degree, developed in partnershipwith and validated by London MetropolitanUniversity, is designed to provide a degree levelqualification for the Montessori community. Thisvocationally based level 5 qualification combinesthe best of the London Metropolitan’s EarlyChildhood Studies Programme with Montessoripedagogy for working with children from birth toseven years of age.

The Foundation Degree is designed to develop highlevels of professional competence in students wishingto become Montessori teachers and aspiring to achievea full BA (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood bycontinuing their studies at London MetropolitanUniversity. Graduates will have opportunities toprogress towards the Early Years Professional Status(EYPS) and Post Graduate Certificate in Education(PGCE) programmes.

Early Childhood Subjects:

Observing and Understanding Child Development,Health Promotion in Early Childhood, The Unique Childin the Context of United Nations Convention on theRights of the Child, Problem Solving and Investigationacross the Curriculum, Representation and SymbolicBehaviour, Communication and Language in aMultilingual Context, Personal, Social and EmotionalDevelopment in Cultural Context, MultidisciplinaryApproaches to Observing and Assessing, Early YearsCurricula and Montessori Pedagogy.

Additionally full time students studyMontessori Pedagogy:

Montessori Philosophy, Supporting Children’s Learning1 – Montessori Pedagogy birth to five years, SupportingChildren’s Learning 2 – Montessori Pedagogy three toseven years.

Practical experience: Montessori workshops andassessed placements throughout the course of study.On successful completion of the two year full timestudy graduates receive a dual qualification:Tthe FdA (Montessori Early Childhood Practice) fromLondon Metropolitan University and the EarlyChildhood International Diploma in MontessoriPedagogy from Montessori Centre International.

Entry requirements:

All applicants will be required to attend an interviewprior to being offered a place to study at MCI andshould be a minimum age of 18 before commencingthe course:

For full-time study: GCSE grade C in English andMathematics, at least one A-level pass, plus threeother subjects at GCSE level grade C or equivalent.Students should have a good command of written andspoken English and international students must holdIELTS (Academic and General Training) comprising fourcomponents: listening; speaking; reading; writing all atgrade 6.5.

For part-time study: MCI International Diploma inMontessori Pedagogy plus three years currentclassroom experience. �

EARLY CHILDHOOD PRACTICE (Foundation Degree) continued

Current Fees:

See enclosed Fee Information Sheet. All studentswishing to follow the course pay a non refundableregistration fee and a deposit. International studentsare also required to pay the first year’s tuition fees uponacceptance on the course. The course fee includes thecourse materials published by Montessori CentreInternational. In addition, students are required topurchase compulsory books, as identified in the BookList published in the student handbook or modulespecifications. The examination fee is payable by allstudents who qualify for the Montessori examinations.

Full-Time Graduates:

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree,students will be required to undertake six months fulltime placement prior to being admitted to study for theBA (Hons) Early Childhood studies programme atLondon Metropolitan University. This will requirestudies of 8 further modules (approximately 18months).

Part-Time Graduates:

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree,students will be admitted to study for the BA (Hons)Early Childhood studies programme at LondonMetropolitan University. This will require studies of 8further modules (approximately 18 months).

FEE INFORMATION Valid for courses starting January 2012 and September 2012

Registration Fee

On registration all full-time and part-time students who are UK and EU nationals pay a non-refundable fee of £100and a £500 deposit which is refundable against the final instalment of fees.

Foreign nationals are required to pay the registration fee of £100, the deposit of £500 and the first year’s tuitionfees upon acceptance on the course. The deposit is refundable against the final instalment of fees. The depositand fees paid are refundable in the event of student visa not being granted by the UK Border Agency (UK BA).

IMPORTANT: Prospective students are advised to pay particular attention to the terms and conditions onthe registration form before forwarding their registration form and fee. If necessary, students shoulddiscuss their requirements with the Registrar.

Methods of Payment

Students can benefit from discounted full-time or part-time course fees if they pay for the course in full before thestart of their study. Alternatively they can pay in instalments.

The terms and conditions of commitment to pay the tuition fees are stated on the registration form. *Students will be required to submit assignments for marking during December/January and May/June.
