It’s the first Family FunDay Sunday at The Ballpark! Each and every Sunday home game, kids 12 years of age and younger receive a free reserved seat, ice cream, Fun Zone access and the chance to play catch on the field pregame! Versus Montgomery in 2015: The Generals went 6-13 against the Biscuits last season including 2-7 at home and 4-6 on the road. On a road trip to Montgomery from April 25-29, Jackson came back to win the final three games of the series by one run. Tyler Bortnick led the team with a .414 average in nine games against the Biscuits. Dario Pizzano was right behind him hitting .378 in nine contests. Triple Trouble: The Generals have already hit four triples through just three games this season (Leon Landry 2, Tyler O'Neill 1, Ian Miller 1). While the sample size is small, the rest of the league has combined to hit just seven three-baggers. The four triples are also more than Jackson's doubles and homers combined, which is just two. Welcome to Jackson, It's Been waiting For you: On Opening Night, Guillermo Heredia lined the first pitch he saw as a professional up the middle for a single. It was also the first pitch he saw in an organized baseball game since 2014 (not including spring training). On Friday, Heredia drove an inside pitch in the seventh over the 24-feet high green monster in left for a grand slam. Across six seasons playing for Matanzas in the Cuban National Series, Heredia hit just 23 home runs. In his last full season, Heredia hit just one in 61 games and that was way back in 2013. As a professional in the Seattle Mariners' system, Heredia needed just eight at- bats to hit his first home run. Last night in game three of the season, Heredia lined a single up the middle in his first at-bat again and went 1-3 overall. What a Relief: The Generals' bullpen has been stellar thus far over 10.2 IP. The bullpen arms have struck out 14 while walking just three and have a combined ERA of 0.00. Dan Altavilla made his first ever relief appearance last night and went two strong scoreless and hitless innings without giving up a run en route to his first career save. The righty led the California League in starts last year with 28. The Top Thirty: According to Baseball America, five of Seattle’s top 30 prospects are on Jackson’s roster and eight of Tampa Bay’s top 30 are on Montgomery’s roster. The five Generals are: Edwin Diaz (#2 - RHP), Tyler O’Neill (#4 - OF), D.J. Peterson (#10 - 1B), Ryan Yarbrough (#14 - LHP), and Dan Altavilla (#23 - RHP). The eight Biscuits are: Willy Adames (#2 - SS), Jake Bauers (#4 - OF/1B), Taylor Gurrieri (#7 - RHP), Jacob Faria (#8 - RHP), Casey Gillaspie (#9 - 1B), Justin O’Conner (#13 - C), Chih-Wei Hu (#16 - RHP), and Jake Hager (#25 - SS). Experience Goes a Long Way: On the Generals’ 25-man roster, 17 of the 25 players have played at Double-A or higher at some point in their careers. Seven of the eight players who haven’t played at Double-A or higher and have all played at High-A Bakersfield are: Dan Altatvilla, Brett Ash, Emilio Pagan, Ryan Yarbrough, Tim Lopes, Justin Seager, and Tyler O’Neill. The eighth player is Guillermo Heredia, who hasn’t played at any minor league level since signing with the Mariners as an International Free Agent in January. The Road To The Show: Jabari Blash (2013-2015) and Ji-Man Choi became the 210th and 211th former Generals respectively to play in the majors. Blash made his debut on April 5th for the San Diego Padres and Ji-Man Choi made his debut on April 6th for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. 2015 Generals and Southern League Recap: The Generals finished the 2015 season with a 53-84 record, the worst in franchise history. The Biscuits won the second half title while the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota) won the first half crown in the North Division.
