Kalpana Sai, Consultant, Cognizant Technologist was the resource person for the workshop on Compensation and Benefits for I MBA students of Batch 2014-16 on April 24, 2015. In her talk she reiterated that remuneration is one of the factors that have substantial impact on employee’s motivation towards their responsibilities in an organization. To think compensation and benefits only in monetary terms is to play down the magnanimity of effects that they have on organization and people. She emphasized the use of ERP in calculation of compensation. The program was coordinated by Deepa Manickam Assistant Professor, Centre of HR.

Negotiation Skills by Ms. Lakshmi Meera BL, Assistant Professor, Centre of
Marketing, KCT Business School, on April 27, 2015
Negotiating may sound daunting but it’s a skill to learn as we spend more time in life negotiating than
driving. The workshop will help prepare students for success, help in the process for negotiation and
also equip them to evaluate the results of any negotiation. The workshop on Negotiation skills,
conducted on April 27, 2015 helped the students’ of I MBA, Batch 2014-16 learn strategies and tactics
to build negotiating confidence. Thirty one students from first year MBA attended the program. The
session started with an introduction to negotiation, myths about negotiation, good and bad
negotiation, Tactics for successful negotiation was debriefed using two major one on one negotiation
and few role plays of simple negotiations. One factor and multiple factor negotiation exercise were
conducted in this basic course for negotiation. Students were motivated with insights on planning for
negotiation. They felt the workshop was a highly practical and it would definitely help them in their

Panel Discussion Jugaad Innovation and Frugal Innovation with Mr.Navi Radjou and
Mr.Jaideep Prabhu, authors on April 9, 2015
An interactive , panel discussion was organized and conducted with, Mr.Navi Radjou and Mr.Jaideep
Prabhu, the authors of the ground breaking best sellers jugaad innovation and frugal innovation on
April 9, 2015 with the student of KCT, KCTBS, Entrepreneurs and faculties. The speakers gave a
refreshing paradigm to innovation with examples from the Silicon Valley. They clearly laid the need
for "better for less" approach to create explosive companies. Various examples from Indian context
was shared to establish that India is the birth place for Frugal innovation and urged the need to marry
both the Indian mind and the western technology to introduce business models for value creation to
the society. This discussion was organized by Lakshmi Meera BL, Assistant Professor, Centre of

CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt on April 10 & 11, 2015
The Centre for Operations at KCT Business School organized a two day “Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Certification Program" on April 10 and 11, 2015. It was conducted by Mr.E.Johanan Daniel, MD &
Principal Consultant, Juran having its headquarters at Connecticut; USA for the IMBA second semester
students (2014-16 batch) of KCTBS.The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification program provides an
opportunity for the students to learn Lean concepts and principles. A brief description was given
about the Six-Sigma concept, Cost of Quality (COQ), Defects per Million Opportunity (DPMO) and other
tools of Six Sigma. Other aspects related to the topic like Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Cause
and Effect diagram, Process Mapping and Pareto Chart were discussed in detail with the participants.
The students were also trained in DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control) methodology
which when properly applied can dramatically improve an organization’s overall efficiency and
effectiveness. The course also involved simple practical exercises related to the reduction /
elimination of the seven wastes that would be generated during the process of production for
improving productivity. Lean Six Sigma certification will open up avenues for exciting career
opportunities in training, consulting and process re-engineering across several industries for the
students.The sessions were interactive in nature and application oriented. 50 students participated in
the program that was coordinated by Dr.V.Kannan, Associate Professor & Centre Head, Centre of
Operations.

FDPs /Workshop Attended
Lakshmi Meera BL Assistant Professor, Centre of Marketing attended a four day lean Six Sigma
Certification Program from Infocareer, Chennai from April 3-6, 2015. Lean Six Sigma is a set of
techniques and tools for process improvement. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process
outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects and
minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. The use of set of quality
management methods, mainly empirical and statistical methods was practiced during the program.
Six Sigma project is being carried out with defined sequence of steps to complete the certification
process. The training was successfully completed and certified based on an online assessment test
conducted by the trainer.

Validated Instruments in Social
Science Research" The session
addressed the need for using
validated scales, the methods of
identifying the validated scales
and the different considerations
that a researcher needs to take
into account before using the instruments. It concluded with the different types of validated
instruments available and their use in research. The session was followed by a presentation by 4
research scholars. About 11 participants attended the Research forum.

Business Management at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Coimbatore on April 25,
2015.
Student Participation
14 first year MBA students attended the State level seminar on Entrepreneurial Opportunities at
Bannari Amman institute of technology - School of management studies on April 23, 2015. This
program was aimed at emerging entrepreneurs and students who want to become entrepreneurs’
facing multiple challenges and opportunities from the new business environment. Mr. R. M.
Subramanian, Deputy Director, Agro Business and Agro Marketing gave a brief description about
Agricultural Entrepreneurs, opportunities for Agriculture based businesses. He took some food
products like coconut, grains, Millets, rice, etc and explained about the value added products that
could be prepared from those raw food items and also explained about the market demand for those
products. He also explained the legal rules to start business and briefed where we can get financial
assistance and also gave details on NGO who work on agriculture value added projects.
Mr. Gowtham Palanisamy, Auditor, Managing Partner, R. S. Associates and Ms. V. Hema, Senior
Manager, State Bank of India talked about source of funding, taxation, legal financial assistance, baking
schemes and loans for entrepreneur. Students learnt Emerging business opportunities, Legal
procedures to start new business, Financial schemes and programs for new entrepreneur and listened
to success stories of entrepreneurs.

Assessment Major Project for Batch 2013
The Corporate project viva voce was conducted on April 29, 2015. 179 students attended the viva.
Eight panel examiners from reputed institutes assessed the students. S.Sangeetha Assistant Professor

He started the session by
giving a short introduction
on the importance of
physical and mental health
at work and the precautionary measures to be taken to avoid mishap. He explained about the various
concepts of Health and Safety in general and in specific to personal life and industry and also
explained about safety aspects on fire safety, food habits for college students, exercises, and work
related stress. The speaker also demonstrated on how one should act on giving first aid.The session
was very realistic and informative for the students and created awareness on the importance of health
and safety. The program was coordinated by Dr.S.Jaisankar, Associate Professor Centre of Operations

Farewell Class of 2015 on April 30, 2015
It was time to bid Au Revoir to our students of class 2015. The farewell of the seniors began with a
photo shoot followed by entertainment program by the juniors. Students shared their experiences at
KCT.BS, outlining their expectations and their outcomes. Joint Correspondent shared a few words of
encouragement and the evening ended with fun, frolic and dinner.
