MARCH / APRIL / MAY // 2013 ATTERS Preparations for the launch of the City’s new Customer Relations Centre (CRC) are in full swing, with over 20 staff undergoing one of the most wide-ranging training exercises ever undertaken. A day of team building including a tour of several City facilities and visiting a variety of units is just part of the process of developing a team of people who will have a broad range of knowledge across various programs and operations. The new team will deal with inquiries from building, health, planning, program bookings, financial counselling, waste and rates. They will be the first point of contact and will handle in person, telephone, web, in writing (including email) and council enquiries/payments at Clarkson Library. “This is one of the most intensively trained teams the City has ever created and will revolutionise the way the City delivers customer service,” said Acting CEO Dennis Blair. “Thank you to the people involved who have taken on a big challenge with great enthusiasm, and to the service units for their invaluable support in hosting the CRC team during their training.” Working in a newly refurbished area, the CRC team will able to access the iKNOW System which carries up to date information on virtually every service and program offered by the City. iKNOW has been developed from scratch and offers a new benchmark in local government in Western Australia for knowledge management systems. CUSTOMER RELATIONS CENTRE Our imprint on service excellence Have your say in the upcoming Employee Engagement and Safety Survey. This survey will be run by an independent company, InSync Surveys, between 20-31 May 2013. This will be your opportunity to give your thoughts about work and the workplace. Welcome to the City... Commencing March and April 2013

An Egyptian EscapeERM Coordinator, Pat Augustin had an awesome adventure with her family to see one of the great wonders of the world.

The trip started off with the first three nights in Kuala Lumpur catching up with family and friends then it was off to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Pat recalls there were lots of skyscraper buildings like New York and she had never seen so many Ferraris, Porsches, Austin Martin cars on the road like in Dubai. They shopped in some of the biggest malls and also saw the longest and biggest water fountain show display. From the modern city of Dubai they then flew to Cairo in Egypt.

Some of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the national Museum in Cairo, Coptic churches, Mosque, Jewish synagogue, the great pyramids, tombs, sphinx at Giza and Saqqara, cruise on the Nile River, belly dancing, a camel ride in the desert sunset and tasting some local Egyptian cuisine.

You’re Not Dead YetIt was 40 years ago today

A young surveyor came to stay In this same building when it was brand new The whole of the Council was here, it’s true

Civilisation ended at Thompson Drive Mindarie didn’t exist til 1985

Burns Beach Road was a rabbit track Yanchep, a cut lunch to get there and back

Occ Health & Safety was a bit obscure Best not go down that road, I’m sure

The stories we’ve heard, I believe to be true It’s a miracle no-one decided to sue

With plumb bobs and theodolite he surveyed the land With Bushy & Peter lending a hand

Every road, every bend Les knows it well Every cupboard & stairwell, a story to tell

He grew with the Shire, moved to the dark side too Over to Joondalup when that was all new

The Council and Hospital were all that were there That’s when he worked with Dennis Blair

Fun times were had, most not doing work Neil Hawkins Park to themselves, quite a perk

Bush bashing, fun runs – campfires so hot Sundowners and cricket, they were a sociable lot

Les has seen people come and go and procedures and protocol have stolen the show A founding member of the Grumpy Old Bastards I don’t think the Grumpy – he has quite mastered

A bottle of red will not go astray Perhaps a swim at a concert on a nice day? The problems he’s had with mobile phones

Don’t get him started about Catherine Zeta-Jones

He supports the Eagles, he can’t help that Best buds with lots of them, even Mrs Nat...

He’s travelled the world and done heaps of cool stuff Thank goodness Marianne keeps him out of the rough

The surveyors wheel keeps spinning around With his Wingman Ben now pacing the ground

We love having you round we must confess Forty years service – fair play to you Les!

POEM WRITTEN BY HELEN WOOD FOR LES SWAIN’S 40 YEARS SERVICE
