Using the ILP to help with Additional Learning
Support notification
Sussex Downs College
Using the ULCC ILP/PLP to tell teachers about students’
learning needs
Peter Gwilliam
Sussex Downs FE College
• Growing number of students identified as requiring Additional Learning Support
• Having identified them how do we tell relevant staff while preserving appropriate confidentiality?
• Growing number of students requiring customised examination arrangements
• How do we get supporting evidence from teachers?
• How do we administer the arrangements – especially to comply with external examination board requirements?
• How do we tell teachers what the arrangements are while preserving appropriate confidentiality?
THE ILP!!
Stored in Student Info so visible to student and authorised staff only
• How does the teacher know it’s there?
• Use Microsoft SQL Server (2014) and Reporting Services
1. Nightly copy of MySQL ILP related tables from ULCC
2. Copied into MSSQL
3. Assembled into tables with one table per Form iteme.g. ILP_Assembled_Current_Learning_Support

4. Reporting Services Report based on this
• The parameter/filter on this report is [&User].
• It only displays those students who I teach
• Because I don’t have any students with ALS needs this is blank and I can’t do anything about it.
• So, How does the teacher know it’s there?
• Use Dynamic Data Driven Subscription to send emails
• Run daily with all new or changed items
• Twice annual digest as a prompt
• Include a field with a generated deep link into the appropriate report and include in the email.
