From the privatization of sani-tation services, to a new libraryand Town Hall opening, to theelection that determined achange to township council in2015, Moorestown had a busy yearin 2014. As the new year begins, itseems Moorestown will also havea busy 2015.

One of the biggest topics onpeoples minds in the beginningof this year will probably be thecondition of the water. In Octo-

ber, two water wells were closedon Church Street due to trichloro-propane, an unregulated com-pound and possible carcinogen,being found in the water. The lev-els were 15 times lower than theonly state that regulates it,Hawaii, allows, however, thetownship closed the wells as aprecaution.

At the Moorestown Library,parents and children came out tocelebrate the end of the holidayseason and 2014 with storiesabout gingerbread people, a gin-gerbread puppet craft and a visitfrom the gingerbread man him-self. However, it wasnt all aboutgingerbread stories and crafts,there was talk of the past year as

well as the New Year.Gabby Rockell, 5, was excited to

share that she started kinder-garten this year and really likedschool so far.

I have a great teacher, Gabbysaid.

I like my teacher, too, saidher sister Rosie, 8.

Both of the girls also talkedabout their New Years resolu-tions. Rosie wanted to try to keepher room clean while Gabbywished to make new friends. Un-fortunately for Rosie and Gabby,two of their friends are movingaway soon.

Rosie expressed her excitement

to stay up for New Years Eve. Shesaid she got to do it last year, butthis year Gabby gets to join aswell. However, Rosie said with agiggle that she was doubtful hersister could stay up that late.

Rosie and Gabbys mom, Deb,said one her favorite things to

happen in 2014 was going to theKentucky Derby. She had nevergone before and said it was abucket list thing. She evendressed up and wore a hat for theoccasion.

In 2015, there will be some newfaces on the Moorestown Board of

Education. Leaving the board in2015 were A. Leigh Powell,Christina Zajac and board presi-dent Don D. Mishler. Newly elect-ed to the board are Peter Palko,

Ann Marie Casinelli and CarynShaw.

With the change, there will benew hats that members of theboard will have to wear. The reor-ganization meeting for the BOEwill be Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at theWilliam Allen Middle School.During that meeting, leadershipwill change, and with that changeis an opportunity to reflect onwhat has been the past norm andwhat deserves to continue andwhat deserves to be reconsid-

ered, Mishler said.In regard to any new policies

or committees, the new leader-ship will address them with inputfrom all board members and theadministration. However nospecifics were provided. If thereis a need for a new policy or com-mittee within the new year, it willmost likely be addressed by thenew board.

Our committee structure hasevolved over the years as circum-stances have changed. There is no

reason to expect that the evolu-tion will stop in 2015. Generally,the committees are built aroundsignificant issues that require theboards attention by law, by thecommitment of funds and otherimportant issues, Mishler said.

A big question that residentsmight be wondering is, where isMoorestown Township PublicSchools on the projects with thebond referendum? The BuildingExcellence Bond Referendum,

passed in September, authorizedthe district to raise funds throughthe sale of bonds to finance im-provements to all six of the dis-tricts school buildings. RODgrants were pledged by the statefor $13.7 million, while bondswould have to make up for the re-maining total of $42.8 million.

According to Mishler, the de-sign phase is underway. Whencompleted, bids will be solicited.

eye of our construction manager.Once bids are awarded, the con-struction can begin, Mishlersaid.

The choir consists of 10 chil-dren from Uganda, five boys andfive girls, ages 8 to 12, who per-form traditional African singing,dancing and drumming as well assome contemporary Christian

through Childcare Worldwide.The choirs mission is to raise

On Dec. 9, a resident of Bramley Roadhad a package taken from theirdoor step. FedEx had delivered

the package containing an iPadvalued at $406.59.

On Dec. 9, a 23-year-old maleof Somers Point was arrested and chargedwith shoplifting. He concealed six poloshirts from Macys Department Store inthe Moorestown Mall into a shopping bag.The value of the theft was $270. He was re-leased on a summons.

On Dec. 11, two individuals were arrest-ed and charged with shoplifting from SearsDepartment Store in the Moorestown Mall.

The first individual, a 25-year-old female ofBeverly, concealed a black leather handbagin a backpack with a value of $89. The sec-ond individual was a 27-year-old male ofBeverly who concealed a black leatherhandbag in a backpack he was wearing,

valued at $89. Both were released on a sum-mons.

On Dec. 11, a 34-year-old female of Marl-ton was arrested and chargedwith shoplifting. She placed sev-

eral items of merchandise into ashopping cart at Boscovs De-partment Store in theMoorestown Mall and exited the

store. Total value of the theft was $2,632.51.She was released on $150 bail.

On Dec. 12, as a result of a domestic situ-ation, a 36-year-old man of East ThirdStreet has been charged on a warrant withsimple assault, $2,500 bail.

On Dec. 14, a 55-year-old woman of Cam-den was arrested and charged with

shoplifting. She concealed clothing fromBoscovs Department Store in theMoorestown Mall valued at $258.45. Thewoman was released on a summons.

On Dec. 14, a 39-year-old individual from

Philadelphia was arrested and chargedwith shoplifting. The individual took awomans jacket valued at $83.99. The indi-vidual was released on a summons.

On Dec. 18, due to a domestic dispute be-

tween sisters, arrested and charged withsimple assault were a 53-year-old womanand a 55-year-old woman, both ofMoorestown. Both were released on sum-mons.

On Dec. 18, a 74-year-old man of Camdenwas arrested and charged with shoplifting.The man shoplifted a Keurig coffee makerfrom Boscovs Department Store in theMoorestown Mall. The value of the coffeemaker is $199.99. He was released on a sum-mons. A 68-year-old female of Philadelphiawas arrested and charged with receiving

stolen property. She took a Keurig coffeemaker from the previously mentionedmale individual valued at $199.99 fromBoscovs and returned the coffee makerfor a refund. She was released on a sum-mons.

My New Years resolution is toread more books, Deb said.

Sharon Coffman said with alaugh that she would like to try toleave her kids with a sitter. Coff-man, a stay-at-home mother ofthree, spends her time with herchildren almost 24/7, leaving no

real time for her to relax.It would be nice to get somealone time, Coffman said.

In 2015, Coffman is looking for-

ward to the summer. She cantwait to open the pool and spendtime there in the warm weather.

Her boys, Justin, 7, and Jeremy,5, shared their favorite things tohappen in 2014. Justin said hewas excited that he is allowed toplay video games during the weeknow.

First, we got to do it onlywhen we were good. Then we gotto do it on the weekends. Thensomeone said we should get to

play three times on the weekdays,and it is the best thing ever,Justin said.

Jeremy spoke about a scooter

he received for Christmas at hisgrandmothers house. There is ablack pedal and flames thatcome out of the back, he said.

For their resolutions, Justinsaid he wants to put togetherLego sets, apparently a millionLego sets. Jeremy wants to jumpon the pogo stick, a feat that canbe hard for sure.

Everyone, from kids to adults,was looking forward to and haddreams for the New Year, both big

and small.Hopefully, 2015 will bring thosewishful resolutions to reality forall.

According to township manag-er Scott Carew, council planned toappoint a new water/sewer engi-neer at its re-organization meet-

ing on Jan. 6. That engineeringfirm will work with the townshipto find an expert consultant to ad-vise council and the staff on theissue. As of now, the townshipcontinues to work with theNJDEP to identify treatment op-tions that will ensureMoorestown continues to provide

safe and clean drinking water.This is a top priority for the

township. We will work diligentlywith the professionals previouslymentioned and the NJDEP tomove forward as quickly as possi-ble while making sure we dotevery I and cross every T. TheNJDEP has indicated that theywill provide funding for the capi-tal costs of this investment,Carew said.

There are many more projectsand events that citizens should beaware of for Moorestown in 2015.Completing the engineering forthe township parking lot on Sec-ond Street, commonly known asthe Peter Pan parking lot, is oneof those projects. According toCarew, the goal is to include theconstruction phase in the 2015capital budget and go out to bidby summer.

In addition, the township willmake final determination andcomplete implementation of a

new metered parking system forMain Street and the Peter Panparking lot.

The township is looking for-ward to completion of the scien-tific review of Strawbridge Lakeand the completion of the dam re-pairs in 2015. The township is alsolooking to begin the third phaseof Strawbridge Lake improve-ments, which is the review, plan-ning and implementation ofrecreational improvements toStrawbridge Lake Park.

Residents should look forwardto the creation and launch of thetownships new website. Accord-ing to Carew, this will provide res-idents with a more interactiveand responsive experience incommunicating with the town-ship. The township is also close tochoosing a new vendor for com-munity development softwarethat will enhance the construc-tion and zoning permit experi-ence.

The year ahead may also seethe demolition of the old libraryand a final determination of whatthat property will become.

Started in 2014, the new LenolaEconomic Development Ad HocCommittee will hopefully get upand running. This effort will in-corporate previous efforts to im-prove the Lenola Business Dis-trict along with a thorough lookat current conditions so it mayreach its full potential.

Completion of the Road Im-provement Program analysisshould be done in 2015 as well,

Carew said. This will provide thetownship with the informationnecessary to remain proactiveand fiscally responsible in regardto infrastructure improvements.

The continuation of a policy tosearch for grant opportunities toimprove the towns infrastruc-ture shall progress during theyear. This includes improvementsto roads, utility systems, parks,streetscapes and bicycle path-ways. Also for 2015, the investiga-tion of the potential of utilizingsolar power for the economic andenvironmental benefit ofMoorestown shall be looked into.

The Moorestown Tree Plantingand Preservation Committee, inpartnership with the MoorestownGarden Club, Moorestown Im-provement Association and theNJ State Forestry Services Com-munity Forestry Program, willhost the New Jersey State ArborDay Event on Friday, April 24 atWesley Bishop Park.

Additionally, the township justlearned that the efforts of theSustainable Moorestown grouphas led to the town reaching Sil-ver Award certification status.Moorestown is one of only 28New Jersey municipalities toreach this level.

Town council and townshipstaff will continue to work as asolid team to provide a level of ex-cellence in municipal serviceswhile maintaining fiscal respon-sibility to the residents ofMoorestown, Councilman PhilGarwood said.
