More Republicans Come out in Favor of Same-Sex Marriage
Newt Gringrich, Ken Mehlman, and Pat Brady
Intro
The issue of gay-marriage is something that almost everyone feels strongly about, whether it be for it or against it. Stereotypically, Republicans are usually against, and Democrats are usually for it. In the last couple of years, more well-know Republicans have come out in favor of same-sex marriage.

Newt Gringrich
Recently, Newt Gringrich, former Republican Presidential candidate and House Speaker made statements indicating that he
and other GOP leaders should not speak ill of, but embrace civil marriage equality.
He stated that he had a personal stake in this issue as well. He has a gay friend who got married in Iowa, and has a half-sister who works for the Human Rights Campaign.
Ken Mehlman
Ken Mehlman, former RNC and Bush Campaign Chief came out as gay. While he is still a Republican, he feels very strongly about same-sex
marriage. He recently launched Project Right Side, which is an organization that is working to get more conservative support for same-sex marriage.
Pat Brady
Pat Brady, Chairman of the Republican party in Illinois, has stated that the bill they are trying to pass
in Illinois to allow same-sex marriage has his full support. Not only that, but he is contacting other republicans to urge them for their support. He stated that, “More and more Americans understand that if two people want to make a lifelong commitment to each other, government should not stand in their way.”
