OUR TRAINERS...

Olivier Savard

Olivier is a polymer chemist who graduated from Simon Fraser University (Canada). He has been working for PerkinElmer since 2007. He was first employed as the material characterization product specialist for PerkinElmer Canada before moving to PerkinElmer UK/Ireland in 2011. Olivier is now the infrared, near-infrared and hyphenation product specialist for the UK, Ireland and the Scandinavian countries.

Allan Fraser

Allan Fraser is an analytical chemist by profession and is a registered Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.

During his early career he gained experience as a chemical analyst at Johannesburg Consolidated Investments (JCI) and Matthey Rustenburg Refiners. He then took up a position as laboratory manager at Sandvik Hard Materials and later joined LECO Africa as a sales engineer, eventually becoming group manager for the company’s mass spectrometry range of instruments. In 2001 Allan joined Philips Analytical as General Manager of their South African subsidiary and in 2002 was made a Director of PANalytical (Pty) Ltd, a position he held for 6 years. After a period as Operations Manager of three of SGS’s laboratories, Allan formed Allan Fraser & Associates.

This consulting business focuses on on-site training of laboratory personnel and providing expertise in terms of analytical development work, analytical chemistry consulting and laboratory technical audits. His areas of specialisation in analytical chemistry are method development and statistical method validation of analytical methods.

Steve Upstone

Steve joined PerkinElmer in 1979 and during this time has worked mainly with UV and fluorescence products. He has experience in a wide range of fields as diverse as molecular biology, pharmacology, colour science, solar energy and optics as well as general expertise in analytical chemistry.

Elzabé Truter

Elzabé Truter holds a National Diploma in Microbiology and has 33 years’ experience in microbiological analysis of water and food as well as 15 years’ experience in Laboratory Accreditation (ISO/IEC ISO 17025:2005). She was Head of Department of Water Affairs Biological Laboratory for 10 years.

During this period she was responsible for the implementation of ISO 17025:2005 Quality Management System and the validation of test methods.

Elzabé was then Manager of the Microbiology Laboratory at the CSIR for 8 years, as well as Quality Manager for the Water Laboratories. Since 2008 she has been involved in assisting testing laboratories with the implementation of ISO 17025:2005 Quality Management Systems,

internal auditing and training.

Andreas Trüe

Andreas Trüe is PerkinElmer South Africa’s applications engineer for GC-MS, AAS, ICP-OES and ICP-MS. He holds a B.Tech in chemical engineering and an M.Tech degree in analytical chemistry.

During his early career Andreas worked as a development engineer in biotechnology R&D, focussing on the development of bio immune assays at the renowned company Dräger AG as well as at Connex GmbH in Germany.

He then worked for seven years in clinical chemistry at DuBuisson & Partners, using GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS and AAS techniques.

This was followed by seven years in the environmental analysis sector at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where Andreas focused on air quality measurement and environmental analysis. He utilised GC-MS, Headspace-GC-MS, TD-GC-MS and IC for the analysis of a variety of pollutants in air, water and soil samples. From 2013 he supervised the organic laboratory of CSIR Consulting and Analytical Services.

Nicholas Lancaster

Nicholas is a recent addition to the PerkinElmer applications team and is responsible for the LC, LCMS, FTIR and TOF-MS instrument ranges. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (with Honours in analytical chemistry) from Rhodes University. The subject of his research project involved the characterization of electrospun nanofibres via ICP-OES. During this time he was also responsible for the LC systems, separating freshly synthesized organics for analysis via NMR. Nicholas worked as a student tutor and demonstrator at Rhodes, providing lectures as well as demonstrating in the lab.

He then worked in lab and on-site assisting with training and demonstrating the use of XRF and XRD instrumentation whilst working with the analytical X-Ray company, PANalytical, for two years before joining the applications team at PerkinElmer.
