FATAL WRECK IN DOWNTOWN ATHENS A wreck Friday afternoon around 1:25 p.m. resulted in the death
of 75 year-old Carolyn M. Boyd of Riceville. The wreck hap-
pened at the intersection of Green Street and Madison Avenue
near Athens First Baptist Church. Investigators believe that Ms.
Boyd suffered a medical episode which caused her to drive
through a red light where she was struck by a Volvo Tractor
Trailer driven by Dennis Chitwood, 53, of Blairsville, Georgia.
Ms. Boyd was
transported to
Starr Regional
Medical Center
where she was
pronounced
deceased. The
crash is still
under investi-

CAR WRECKS INSIDE ATHENS INSURANCE A woman on her way to the Athens VA clinic, made a wrong turn
Friday morning and
wound-up inside the
conference room of
Athens Insurance on
West Washington
Avenue. The woman
was driving
northbound on Hill
Street and made a right
turn onto West Wash-
ington Avenue, going
the wrong way on a one way street. She over-corrected when she
saw another vehicle heading towards her and drove her Mercury
Tracer into the front of the Athens Insurance building. She was
injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Nobody was in-

Obituaries Carolyn Margaret Morrow Boyd, age 75, of Riceville, died
Friday, April 6th. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at
Ziegler Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 4 p.m.
Juanita Jones, age 67, of Calhoun, died Saturday. A Graveside
Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calhoun Baptist
Church Cemetery with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at
Bordwine Funeral Home.
ARREST MADE IN MISSING AUTISTIC BOY In Dickson County, a five-year-old non-verbal autistic boy, Joe Clyde Daniels, was reported missing by his parents on Wednesday, April 4th. After an exhaus-tive 3-day search, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation determined that the child’s father, Joseph Daniels, intention-ally killed his son and hid the child’s body. TBI agents arrested 28-year-old Joseph Daniels (in photo) and charged him with criminal homicide. Daniels was booked into the Dickson County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond. (TBI Photo) NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL NEWS Two soldiers were killed in a training flight of an Apache
attack helicopter at Fort Campbell, Kentucky-Tennessee on
Friday. They were killed in a U.S. Army AH-64E Apache
helicopter and were assigned to the 101st Airborne Combat
Aviation Brigade.
Patrick Reed won the Masters Golf Tournament on Sunday. It
was the first time he had ever been to the top in a major golf
championship. After shooting in the 60s each of the first three
days of the tournament, the 27-year-old only needed a one-under
71 on Sunday to win, finishing at 15-under overall.
