Alphabet boosts Wall Street, pushes
Nasdaq to record high: - (Reuters) -
U.S. stock indexes climbed on Tuesday
and the Nasdaq hit a new record high as
Google-parent Alphabet’s strong
quarterly results reaffirmed expectations
of a robust earnings season and sparked
a rally among technology shares.
Forex - Dollar Slips Lower, Pound
Hits Day’s Highs: - The dollar slid
broadly lower on Tuesday as the euro
rebounded and the pound rose to the
day’s highs following reports that British
Prime Minister Theresa May will take
control of Brexit negotiations.
Expectations that the Federal Reserve
will stick to plans for further gradual rate
hikes this year as the economy
continues to strengthen supported the
outlook for the dollar. The dollar has
come under pressure after U.S.
President Donald Trump launched an
attack on the U.S. central bank last
week, claiming that their plans to raise
U.S. interest rates risked undermining
his efforts at strengthening the
economy.
Gold Prices Get Some Respite from
Weaker Dollar: - Gold prices edged
forward on Tuesday, as a weaker dollar
helped to support demand for the
precious metal.
Crude Oil Rises as U.S.-Iran
Tensions Continue: - U.S. crude oil
prices were higher on Tuesday, as Iran
threatened to retaliate against the U.S.
if the government tries to block its oil
exports. The U.S. has threatened to
block oil trade with Iran after Trump
withdrew from the nuclear agreement
with Tehran. Theran responded on
Tuesday, warning Washington against
efforts to keep others from importing oil
from Iran.
