The Moshington Post Priceless First Two Weeks of Second Session 2008 Street, MD 21154 Weather: SOOOOO HOT! Inside info. Into Forbidden Areas of Machaneh: Each week Liya Kenneth will tell you what you want to know about the areas of machaneh chanichim are not supposed to go, the Mamo, MM, and Bogrim Shetach, This week she reveals the secrets of the Bogrim Shetach! Did you ever wonder what’s in the “forbidden areas” of Mosh, the Mamo, the MM, or the Bogrim shetach? I wondered that too. This week I went to the bogrim and asked, “What is the coolest thing in the bogrim shetch?” The answers I received were… Jonah Gray: “The world war II airplane which crashed there in the 40’s” Emily Greenblatt: “The jacuzzi” Jo Jo Kleinman: “The hot tub, boxing ring, and definitely the golden toilet” Fibby DeFries: “The hot tub” Then I asked “Why do you keep what is in the shetach a secret?” The answers I received were… Shuttles: “because…um… like… if we tell you, it will ruin the whole surprise!” Minna Jacobson: “We don’t keep it a secret, we tell you all the time that there’s a golden Jacuzzi” Sam Edelman: “Because we don’t want the younger chanichim to be jealous” The next question I asked was “Do you throw wild parties in there that no one knows about?” The answers were… Jack Basilis: “We are always throwing parties! All we ever do is party!!!” Jennie Graff: “All the time” Hannah Bernbaum: “Yes, we throw wild parties every night” That’s it for this week, see you next time in the mamo….!!!! To the machaneh: Dear Habonim Dror Machaneh Moshava, It seems like just yesterday that we arrived here on this beautiful, green land in Street, MD in order to have the most amazing summer of our lives! We cannot believe it is already two weeks into second session and we have done so much. From working hard and learning tons to having fun and goofing off we have had such a special time with everyone here. We are so sad to say good bye to the two-weekers and yet so excited for camp to continue for the next two weeks and in years to come. Get excited for the next edition of Moshington Post coming to a camp near you! Sincerely, Chug Moshington Post Your source for the most essential Mosh news To the parents: Dear Parents, Welcome to Habonim Dror Camp 2 nd Session ’08! This year we decided to make a newspaper for the camp called “The Moshington Post”. The Moshington Post is run by madrichim (guides) Adi Bernfeld and Melissa Eisen. Kupa at Mosh: A way of Life By Alanna Shapiro As all the chanichim know and many of the parents might know we use a thing called kupa at Machaneh Moshava. Kupa is when we share everything. This meaning we not only share money to purchase essential items, but we also have tons of fun parties and trips together. Physical representations of how we use our kupa are the kupa shelves in the bathrooms and living spaces where people leave important items that other people might need to use. There are also kupa reps for each shickva (age group) that chanichim (campers) can go to ask for something they need. On Wednesday nights and Saturday nights we get kupa treats which are treats purchased with kupa money for the entire machaneh. In sum, the whole point of kupa is to make the campers and Moshava and people around the world more helpful, caring, and more open to sharing.

The Essential Basics of Moshava!!!

Toranut = Fun By Faye Aarons Toranut basically is essential for the survival of machaneh. Each day at lunch and dinner the people on toranut set the tables, serve the food, and clean up after the meals. When someone raises a bowl, pitcher, or plate, toranut takes the item and fills it up. After the meals there are people who sweep, people who wash tables, and people who do the dishes. Toranut is tons of fun and each person gets to do it atleast once during the session!

The Great Outdoors!!!

Bock Bock Baaaaaahhhh By Faye Aarons At the pinat chai (the farm where the animals live) we have two goats, three hens, and one rooster. We here at “Moshington Post” wanted to learn more about these animals, so we asked the “animals keepers”, Avi Edelman and Melissa Eisen, for some information. They told us that the goats names are Jan Vel Jan and Javare nicknamed Pancake and Dr. Dillimand by Sara Toler of the bonim. They were unsure of the chickens’ names at this time. After interviewing Avi and Melissa, we went straight to the source, the chickens and goats themselves. All the goats had to say were, “we like grass, hay, and seed, feeeeed us” and all the chickens had to say were, “boccccckkk, bock, bock”… very suspicious! Well that’s all we have on the animals today. Remember to visit them at the pinat chai!

Moshberries: Tastey Mosh Treat By Anya Spector When I first arrived at Mosh in 2007 my good friend Katie Panzer showed me around. The first thing she showed me was a Moshberry bush. So what’s a Moshberry? The shape is like a blackberry, the color is red, and the taste is yummmmyyyy! Keep on pickin’!!!

Go to the Mosh Nature

Center! Where: In the woods, on the sukkah

Facts about the Serpentine What is the Serpentine? The Serpentine is an area of Mosh land where there is a lot of magnesium and other minerals in the ground. As a result of these unique minerals in the ground rare plants grow in this area and unique animals live there. How was the Serpentine created? Native Americans burned the land so that they could see wildlife better for hunting. They did so much burning that the land could not sustain life any more. Over time a new habitat began to form of things that could only grow in the serpentine. Why is it called a serpentine? It is named after a Serpentine snake from Italy. The snake is not found in a serpentine, but the soil of the serpentine does form patterns like the scales and skin of this snake. How can we get to the serpentine? Mosh has a bunch of trails to the serpentine. There is one leaving from the nof spot which is next to the MLC and a few leading from Mosh road which is the road you enter Mosh from. Interview with Sam Weisbaum: Big man in the Mosh Softball World Interview by Dylan Goldvale and Tess Greenwood Q: What exactly is your job in relation to Softball? A: I am the commissioner. This means that I run the draft for the teams, over see the daily softball events, and oversee the World Series Festivities. Q: Is it hard and stressful being commissioner? A: Sometimes it’s hard, but it’s not really that stressful and I do it for the love of the game. Q: Is it fun? A: It has its perks; more ups than downs! Q: How often do you check in on the game? A: Every once in a while if I have a break from making dinner I come on over and check in on the game. Q: What’s it like being both commissioner and a worker in the mitbach (kitchen)? A: Being both commissioner of chug softball and working in the mitbach places a lot of responsibility on me, but my rosh is so abundantly godol that it’s not really a problem for me.

A quote from Gaga all star Sam House about Gaga:

“It is the greatest feeling every time when you win gaga!”

Gaga: The Game of Champions By Hayden Vegh and Dylan Goldvale Gaga is a very interesting sport. It is different than what you would expect from a sport because it’s not organized with teams and specific places to score. The game involves 24-40 people running around in a 12X30 foot court typically called a gaga pit. The people running around are trying to dodge the speeding ball and hit the ball towards other people’s legs. Each day you can play gaga in the MLC during mishakim. Also, on Saturdays there is a large game of gage going on during swim/art/gaga time.

Sports and Game!!! A quote from bball court

frequenter Aaron Hugh about basketball at Mosh:

“It feels awesome, empowering, and invigorating!”

Interview with Rachel Glaser: Mosh living legend Interview by Tess Greenwood and Alanna Shapiro Q: When did you start going to Mosh? How many years have you been here now? A: 1962, in Bonim 1 which is Arayot for this session. So that means I have been going/working here a little over 40 years. Q: Why did you decide to start going to Mosh? A: My first time away from home I went to camp Louise. I looked around the Louise was not the place for me. I know I liked Mosh because the minute I stepped off the bus I knew people wanted me here. Q: What was your life like at Mosh when you were a kid? A: It was very special. Q: Who was your very first friend at Mosh? Are you still friends with them? A: Hannah who lived in Baltimore. She was a lot like me. She lives in Israel now and we still keep in touch. I also met my husband Ricky at Mosh. Q: What do you do at Mosh now? A: I am camp manager. I make sure everything is running smooth and that we are paying our bills. I also work with madrichim to plan for the summer. Q: What is your favorite place at Mosh? A: My porch, I love sitting there and watching all the exciting things going on around it.

Eyes to the Past and the Future!!!

Why should I extend? By Alanna Shapiro You should extend because after visitor’s day there is so much more Mosh fun to look forward to! For example, there is tiyul. Tiyul is a fun three day camping trip where all the machaneh leave camp and camp out in the woods. This trip includes fun hikes, group building activities, yummy cook outs, and an awesome camp fire. After tiyul there is usually the kupa trip. The kupa trip is when the whole camp travels together to a fun place to have a great time. This past session we went to Chocolate World at Hersey Park and then we went to a fun center with Putt Putt and an Arcade. There are also tons of other fun things to look forward to at camp, so everyone should extend!

Did you know the oldest madrich at machaneh is Bobby! Call him sabba

(grandpa)!
