ES Celebrates Read Across America Week

MES celebrated Read Across America Week with dress-up days, Seuss-themed menus, and a variety of activities that encour-aged reading and literacy. Over 200 4K-3 families participated in Family Literacy Night enjoying a pizza dinner, art show, guest readers, entertainment, and raffles. The kindergarten classes held "Seuss on the Loose" where each student brought in six coins to participate in six different activities related to Dr. Seuss. A total of $110 was collected and donated to a local homeless shelter, which will provide 11 nights of lodging for those in need. The second graders invited a guest to join them at school for Breakfast and Books to read, write, craft, play games, and enjoy breakfast together. It was truly a special week of learning! v

MS Students Recreate Ancient EgyptMosinee Middle School fourth through eighth grade gifted

and talented reading students spent time immersed in ancient Egyptian life seeking answers to inquiry questions. The students then recreated an Egyptian city and invited students, staff, and their families to walk through the Underworld and marketplace, and to experience the culture, games, and music of ancient Egypt. The city also included the Nile River, and of course, the Pyramids, complete with a mummy. v

MMS Students Design Game Apps

The eighth grade Technology Education program added computer coding and logic to its curriculum this year and what developed was a service learning class entitled GAME. Gaming Application Media Enterprise meets every other day throughout the year and is facilitated by Dr. Masterson. Students independently learned a game coding platform called Scratch, a product of MIT in Boston, and using design thinking methods, the students were challenged with creating games for special needs students in grades four through eight and at the high school. Each group held a meet and greet to select students they wanted to work with and then developed a bond to create a personalized game just for them. Their task was to design an educational game that would help the students to improve their math, reading, or language skills, in a fun and engaging way. The eighth grade students created a gaming company complete with a company name, logo, and hallway badges that allowed them passage to the classrooms of their benefactors when they needed to test their game for quality and engagement. The GAME creators officially presented their games to their students with a certificate of ownership, a ceremony, and a lot of pride and smiles from both the game developers and recipients. v
