MATHS
Task- Rounding to the nearest ten:
Warm up activity: counting in tens (10, 20, 30, 40...)
Find maths task in Appendix 6.
Find maths challenge in Appendix 7.
Use this link before completing challenge
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh8dmp3/articles/zpx2qty
Parent/carer guidance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FBZHtokz_k explanation video.
Children to practice rounding to the nearest 10.
Children can complete this task on piece of a paper or in a workbook.
Ask your child to look at the ones column and round up if it is 5 or above. The tens column remains
the same if the ones column is 4 or below.
For example:
73 to the nearest ten is 70. The ones column is less than five so the tens column remains the same.
76 to the nearest ten is 80. The ones column is five or greater than five, so I round up to the next
ten. *the next ten after 70 is 80.
https://www.mathsisfun.com/rounding-numbers.html additional information.
LITERACY
Task:
1. Watch the video to 3:30 - https://vimeo.com/20793950 2. What do you think might happen next?
3. Imagine you are Tadeo. Plan some descriptive sentences using Appendix 1 thinking about what you can see, hear, feel and smell in the tomb. Use http://www.thesaurus.com to help you find synonyms of adjectives you already know.
Parent/carer guidance:
Explain the links and pun on ‘Indiana Jones’ – this may enthuse some children more! Show the children the film. Pause at 3:30. Allow children to discuss their initial thoughts and feelings about what they have seen and ask them to predict what might happen next. Explain that the children will be working towards writing a detailed description of the inside of the Egyptian tomb.
SCIENCE
Task:
1. Watch the video. Answer the quick quiz afterwards - https://tinyurl.com/u9qpzzw
2. How are shadows formed? Find an appropriate video or a website. Always ask an adult first
if it is suitable for your age.
Parent/carer guidance:
Light and shadows is the science topic originally scheduled for Summer 1. Children can watch the
video and respond to the quiz. If you’re happy to do so, they can then conduct some research on
how shadows are formed.

MATHS
Task- Rounding to the nearest hundred:
Warm up activity: counting in hundreds (100, 200, 300, 400...)
Find maths task in Appendix 8.
Find maths challenge in Appendix 9.
Parent guidance:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVXVsueBs5c explanation video
Children to practice rounding to the nearest 100.
Children can complete this task on piece of a paper or in a workbook.
If the tens digit is less than 50 the number is rounded down.
If the tens digit is 50 or more, the number is rounded up. (The ones digit can be ignored when
rounding a three-digit number to the nearest 100.)
For example:
642 to the nearest hundred is 600. The tens column is less than fifty so the hundreds column
remains the same.
651 to the nearest hundred is 700. The tens column is fifty or greater than fifty, so I round up to the
next hundred. *the next hundred after 600 is 700.

LITERACY
Task:
1. Watch Tadeo Jones again but all the way through to the end. https://vimeo.com/20793950
2. Using Appendix 2, match he words to create some similes. Example, as old as time or as
dry as dust.
1. Choose an image from Appendix 3 and use your similes to write a descriptive sentence. For
example, the tall, looming statues were as old as time.
Parent guidance:
Children have learned how to use figurative language (similes and metaphors) in their setting
descriptions. This will create expanded noun phrases (simple sentences with adjectives/figurative
language). This doesn’t need to be printed and can be written down on paper or using a free app
such as Notepad or Wordpad.
HISTORY
Task:
The Stone Age was the first significant period of human history. Use this website to create a booklet
or leaflet, on paper or on an app, about all the information you can find at this link -
https://tinyurl.com/udnqorf Don’t forget your sub-headings. Then show it to someone at home!
Parent guidance:
Children would be studying the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages in Summer 1. This is a research and
record activity, which they can do on paper or on a free app such as Book Creator or Popplet.

MATHS
Task- Rounding to nearest tens and hundreds:
Warm up: count in tens and then in hundreds. (10, 20, 30...) (100, 200, 300...)
Find maths task in Appendix 10.
Find maths challenge in Appendix 11.
Parent guidance:
Please use the links and guidance from Monday and Tuesday to assist with any misconceptions. The
purpose of this exercise is to consolidate the children’s understanding of rounding to the nearest
ten and hundred.
LITERACY
Task:
1. Watch Tadeo Jones again.
2. Look at the images in Appendix 3 again. Can we match a human action to the shadows in
the tomb? What are they doing?
3. Example might be ‘The shadows creep along the walls’ or ‘The shadows leap and dance in
the lamplight’ or ‘The shadows follow and chase me menacingly.’
4. Match an image to a human action and have a go at writing using personification.
Parent guidance:
The children will be exploring personification. Personification gives an object human characteristics
such as emotions, sensations, speech or actions. E.g. ‘The punishing waves crashed ferociously and
swallowed the poor swimmer.’ The waves are described as 'punishing' and 'ferocious'. They are also
given a human action – swallowing. We know that waves cannot literally swallow things!
GEOGRAPHY
Task:
How did Stone Age hunter-gatherers live? Use this link to help with your research -
https://tinyurl.com/srlwbx7 Record your information using a Venn diagram, comparing a stone age
life to your modern life. Think about where you live, what you eat and how you travel.
Parent guidance:
This is a research and record activity about the human geography of Stone Age life. Children use the
link to help create a Venn diagram comparing similarities and differences with their own life.

Please use the links and guidance from Monday and Tuesday to assist with any misconceptions. The
purpose of this exercise is to consolidate what the children have learnt previously. Please reuse
video links to support child.
LITERACY
Task:
1. Watch Tadeo Jones again(!)
2. Look at the sentences you have created so far. Use the example in Appendix 4 to have a go
at creating some sentences using adjectives and similes and personification!
Parent guidance:
Together, look at Appendix 4. These sentences have been constructed using all the planning and
grammatical skills learnt throughout the week. Look at the colour coding that has been used on the
example. Can the children identify which grammatical feature has been colour coded red? Green?
Which sense has been used? Etc. Discuss how the different sentences have been constructed are
there any patterns?
ART
Cave painting task:
1. Watch the national geographic video about cave paintings
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjejoT1gFOc Pause at 2:07 try to recreate the symbols stone
age people would have used to communicate.
2. Create cave paintings on paper, fabric or stones. You can use felt tips, paints, pencils and
crayons. Try and use different tools such as lollipop sticks or your fingers to paint the
symbols or pictures on to your paper.
Suggested resources: Stones/ paper/ fabric, felt tips, pens, pencils, crayons, chalk paint.
*Top tip- Use a tea bag to stain the paper before drawing to create an aged effect.
Parent guidance:
Children would be studying the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages in Summer 1. Children to draw cave
paintings, use any materials available have. Discuss why stone age people used their hands to
create markings instead of the tools we use today. Encourage children to think about the natural
pigments used. Why wouldn’t you see the colour pink in a cave painting?

2. Using Appendix 5 as a WAGOLL (What A Good One Looks Like), can you write a setting
description. You may even want to improve the WAGOLL so it reads even better. Have a go!
3. Show your amazing work to someone at home!
Parent guidance:
Read Appendix 5 aloud or ask the children to read it. Can they go through and highlight an example
of each of the features listed out the bottom? Once children have highlighted the features – can
they find these examples in their planning from yesterday?
