Wow wasn’t last Friday tumeke? It was certainly a highlight of the 2018 school year. Thank you for all the contributions you

made in so many ways. We are especially grateful to Jayson and Tim who ensured the fire burnt hot and long enough to cook our hangi. I know it created memories for our staff and students. I loved seeing our community come together to celebrate both Puanga and our 140th birthday and look forward to building on this experience. Wig Wednesday was an opportunity for our children to

consider others who may not be as fortunate. It was a fun day with some great hairstyles. We raised $200 for the Child Cancer Foundation.

Congratulations to Charlie and Monique who were placed first and third in the West Cluster Speech Competition and to Ben who also represented us. It has been great to see Mosston participating successfully in the Rippa and Hockey tournaments with other Whanganui Schools and we appreciate parents giving up their time to support children at these tournaments.

Our school roll is still rising and class numbers are growing. The council is looking at developing Springvale further and opening up more sections. We look forward to seeing you at Parent Interviews and having the opportunity to share your child’s learning with you.

Te Reo Phrases Tangohia mai te waiwera ki roto tou kete kura Put your water bottle in your school bag

BoT Bit Tena koe Such a memorable day was held last week when we celebrated Puanga and our our kura turned 140 years old. I was in awe of our community spirit and extremely proud to be a part of it. The trustees met on Tuesday 19th and have carried out a review of the day and it has been decided that Puanga and Matariki will be celebrated with an early start and community breakfast every second year and a hangi will be put down every six years. This was allow the students to experience a school hangi during their time at Mosston. We also walked through of the middle hub and we were so impressed with how the maths programme is delivered. The senior school building project is coming along nicely and will be ready for Term 3. The winter months have definitely arrived, please make sure your children are wrapped up warm so maximum learning can be reached. Only two weeks to go and you can have two weeks off. Take care, stay warm and play hard. Bye for now, Nic

Parents’ Group - Pie Fundraiser Kiaora Koutou, our next major fundraiser for the Parents’ Group is PIES made by the awesome bakers at Fitzies. All orders and money needs to be returned to the office by Thursday 5th July and pies will be delivered two weeks after the school holidays on Friday 3rd August. All proceeds are going towards our new turf, so let's get selling whānau! Ngā mihi, Fi Campbell

Library News A big congratulations to Tobey who has joined the Lexile 500K Club. This means he has read over 500,000 words on the Lexile Literacy Pro Reading Programme. Super effort Tobey!

Student Leaders - Keenan Hi, I’m Keenan and I’m very proud to wear the Mosston School uniform as we have an awesome school with great teachers and children. I enjoy helping others and have creative ideas to make fun activities. I am a hard worker in class and really enjoy all sports and school activities. I can remember back to when I was 5 years old thinking how big and scary a school can be so I am kind to children of all ages at our

school. My time at Mosston School has gone really fast and I have enjoyed it all. As a leader I show the CARES values in all areas of my learning and behaviour. My goal as a leader is to make you and our school proud to have me as a leader.
