Eye Glasses are needed for Vision Health International, a non-profit vol-unteer run organization that makes multiple medical missions each year to Latin American countries. There is now a container in the cloakroom of the church for collec-tion of adult and children’s prescription glasses, readers and even sunglasses. Cases for glasses will be accepted also. Do not donate scratched glasses. Every pair of glasses is eventually put to good use. Several hundred pairs of glasses are distributed during each mission trip. The need is always there!

Early Registration Forms for the Religious Education Program for 2015-2016 are available to download and complete from our parish website: www.stbrigidofkildare.org. We kicked-off the Bishop’s Annual Appeal two weeks ago. This year your Bishop’s Annual Appeal gift will go to assist a variety of programs and needs throughout the Diocese. Just to name a few:

• Social concerns, such as assistance to the homeless, vic-tims of domestic violence and the support of JOIN, an organization that provides services to the needy in our Diocese

• The education of seminarians and priests • Direct care for youth and the elderly through programs

that offer medical care, counseling and crisis intervention • Elementary School assistance and student support

through financial aid • Youth ministry and marriage preparation • Health care for retired priests.

We are well on our way to our 2015 goal of $253,000; we have $76,000 in pledges. We need your support. We have provided pledge cards in the pews for you. Please take a mo-ment to complete the pledge cards and place them in the of-fertory baskets or return them to the parish office. Thank you for your generosity.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE

SACRAMENTS?

Go ahead, name the seven sacraments. Now explain each one. We remember learning about them, and we remember receiving many of them but we may be a bit fuzzy on the details. Take time to refresh your understanding. Go to the website developed by the Paulist Fathers. It is called Busted Halo and it has a wealth of information and forma-tion. One series is Sacraments 101 and will review the basics of the sacraments of the Catholic Church for you in just a few minutes. Take time to browse I think you will enjoy it. – Teresa Tuite, OP

St. Brigid of Kildare Religious Education Program

offers opportunities for parishioners to improve

their knowledge and practice of Catholicism.

Through year-long classes for students preschool

through grade eight, high school youth ministry,

seasonal studies, speakers, Bible Study, and specific courses

offered on site for adults, all parishioners are encouraged to

know and share the truths of our Catholic faith.

As we enter the time after Pentecost, it is important to re-member that the Holy Spirit, who came to the Apostles at Pentecost, continues to be present in and with the Church and within each baptized person! This week as we cele-brate Trinity Sunday, it is good to remember to honor God’s name, especially in an age where it is often, unfortu-nately, taken so lightly and even used as an expletive!

If you do nothing else this weekend, please do take time to reverently and consciously make the Sign of the Cross, recalling that all of our prayer, in fact, all of our deeds, should be begin “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!” Amen!

These service opportunities will help them to meet their confirmation requirement of 25 hours (or more) with their friends in an organized environment.

School News

With just two days of school left, our students are anx-iously looking forward to the summer. While we hope the summer provides much time to rest, relax and recharge, the school is also offering many learning opportunities and activities for children to participate in over the summer. Launching this year will be our SPiCE summer fitness program, a program designed to keep kids moving and exercising for 60 minutes twice a week in a fun, noncom-petitive environment. To continue learning over the sum-mer months, students will receive Summer Solutions math workbooks and summer reading activities. These will al-low them to review materials at their own pace and make sure they come back to school prepared for the content of the next grade level. Saint Brigid of Kildare School will also be offering a computer camp taking place in the school in June for students interested in learning about computer coding. We have also posted a listing of area summer camps on our website under the “Calendar & News” tab.

Saint Brigid of Kildare School wishes everyone a safe, blessed and relaxing summer. May God and Saint Brigid bless us all!

The Saint Brigid of Kildare School community provides

Catholic faith formation and strong academic foundations to

inspire life long learners and leaders in the twenty first cen-

tury. Rooted in Christ, we offer a challenging and integrated

Catholic education to children in preschool through grade 8.

“We can change this generation of children if we pray. There are a lot of times when that is all we can do.” - Susan Merrill, iMOM.com

This week continues a bulletin series called “10 Ways to Pray for Your Family” adapted from iMOM.com. Below is the fourth prayer and a corresponding Bible verse. Our hope is that you will be inspired to pray for your family and all families over the course of the week and see the difference prayer can make! Please continue to look for more of this series in the coming weeks!

10 Ways to Pray for Your Family - Week 4

For Courage during Adversity: Lord, we pray that our family will persevere with courage through hard times. Help us grow in fortitude by standing strong on You as our foundation.

“Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the Lord, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6

Summer Salt for the Soul

... to flavor

... to season

... to preserve People often say, Sister, I would love to

come to the things you offer at St. Brigid’s but I don’t have

time. So for the next few weeks I will give you something that you can do at home, in your own time. You can do it

with a friend, a neighbor and family.

Consider the names we humans have for God. In the Hindu culture it is a custom to try to give a 1000 names for God before you die. It is an interesting idea! How do you address God? I think the names we use for God reveal more about us than about God. In a talk given two weeks before her death, Sister Thea Boman said: “My people graced me with multiple images of the Living God. God is bread when you are hungry, water when you are thirsty, a harbor from the storm. God is a father to the fatherless, a mother to the motherless. God’s my sister, my brother, my leader, my guide, my teacher, my comforter, my friend. God’s the way-maker and burden-bearer, a heart-fixer and a mind regulator. God’s a doctor who has never lost a pa-tient; a lawyer who has never lost a case; a chaplain who has never lost a battle. God is my all in all, my everything. God is my rock, my sword, my shield, my lily of the valley, my pearl of great price. God is a God of Peace and a God of War. Coun-selor, Emmanuel, Redeemer, Savior, Prince of Peace, Son of God, Mary’s little baby, wonderful Word of God. These images come from Scripture and from the lived experience of Chris-tians. Some people see them as contradictory, but Christians see them as inadequate. ... All of these images help me as I call upon God’s name.”

I think I counted 36 or 37 images used by Sister Thea. Over the next week I encourage you to take each of these images and use it for your prayer. Let the experiences of your life come before you and consider ~ When has God been bread for you? What do you hunger for? How has God fixed your heart? Do that with each of the images she proposed. Some may not speak to your life right now, if so then move to another image. You may add to the list because we are far short of the 1000 mark!

Read Exodus 3:1 to discover what name God gives God. The Gospel of John is filled with “I AM” statements. You might want to slowly read through the Gospel noting each time this statement is made by Jesus. With your family and friends see how many names for God you can come up with this week.

A name is so precious ... so special ... so connected with one’s identity. During the next week notice how you speak/think about God. How do you call upon God? How do you use the name of God?

(Next time: no name ... changed name ... special name) ... - Sister Teresa Tuite, OP

Pictured above is Gene Bostic ushering

at a funeral Mass. Gene is a faithful

servant for nearly every funeral Saint

Brigid of Kildare celebrates.

Just as we greet guests to our homes, the ushers at Saint Brigid of Kildare Parish make guests feel welcome and tend to their needs. Ushers and junior ushers greet guests as they arrive, assist people in finding seats, gather and secure the collection, assist in getting a family to take gifts of bread and wine to the altar, hand out bulletins, and are knowledgeable about the facility and how to respond in

emergencies.

In the fall of 2014, Saint Brigid of Kildare introduced a new way of training our ushers via an online training video. Instead of sitting through a half-day meeting, those wanting to assist their parish by becoming an usher can watch the training video at their leisure, answer questions on the content, then spend time with a

mentor learning one-on-one the skills needed to be an usher.

Ushers are an important part of every Mass celebrated at Saint Brigid of Kildare, from funerals and weddings to holidays. Ushers can be adult men and women of any age, and junior ushers may begin as early as sixth grade. Consider answering this call and helping your parish by serving as an usher.
